Just wanna point out that The Getaway is highly underrated. Quite enjoyed that album.
Other than that I'm more of a fan of BSSM era Peppers and what they did before. One Hot Minute I liked too, but it had some skips. Californication is decent too, but I remember the mixing being kinda bad. Way too loud, dynamics were off, too much mono, really compressed. I enjoy the song writing and harmonies, but the mix turns me off.

The new songs are alright. I enjoy Poster Child the most because it has a nice funky bass, even though it took a while till I could appreciate Kiedis vocals. Black Summer is too boring for me. All that build up, but the pay off was just ehhh.

Seems like there a lot of to get stuck into on the new album. First impressions are that its definitely more interesting than SA for me. The Heavy Wing with John and Chad going hard is sick!

Props to all those who went early based on a couple of songs to write this band off. The album is fantastic. Sometimes it pays for people to wait. This is a band who releases albums and expects us to listen to an album from start to finish.

I don't really like the song by itself, but I typically dislike the singles that RHCP puts out. I will criticize this one heavily for the unnecessary autotune.

There is a site that exists that has all of Californiacation with far better compression.

Getaway does have some nice songs on it. I have always been more of the Californiacation-SA fan, so Longest Wave, Goodbye Angels fit nicely with that. This Ticonderoga is great, and I enjoy Encore. The worst songs for me are Go Robot, Detroit, and Dark Necessities [which seems to be people's favorite]. I prefer "I'm with You" to "The Getaway"; Death Song, Police Station, and Meet me at the Corner are my favorites from that.

I like these ones a lot! Of course its not going to hit as hard as Californication or By The Way did, but they sure put a lot of energy and creativity into this album. Really hope we can get a couple new albums now.

Watchu Thinkin is my fuckin jam…this album sounds like they picked right back up from when John left. He sounds so good on this. Even the first two singles have grown on me

Yeah album has zero bad songs imo. I'm too into Bastards Of Light right into White Braids then Let Em' Cry & The Heavy Wing the connection between these guys are insane Whatchu Thinkin' is such a jam, She's a Lover is super solid too. I do really like Josh and grateful for him for keeping the band alive and exploring new horizons.

The 3 released songs fit well in context of the album front to back, it's the way a chili peppers album should be enjoyed.

Album leaked today. Wow some strong songs are ahead if you haven't listened yet. Surprising set of songs they released before hand but if you're a previous fan you'll enjoy it.

Right after Poster Child the album gets insanely good like wildly good.

The Great Apes
It's Only Natural (Another fav)
These Are The Ways
Whatcu Thinkin'
Bastards Of Light (Insane favorite)
White Braids & Pillow Chair (Groovy)

Just finished it the whole album is solid. 9/10

Listening now. Already screeches Frusciante, a brilliant thing. WMP mixed up the playlist though so out of order.

Ah Christ "California" AGAIN.

He seriously resorts to places he lived for lyrics. Awesome song though funky as fuck.

Nice to hear someone thinking the correct way! RHCP are an "old school" band who don't really release singles and neglect their albums. The songs are meant to be heard as a whole package. Nice to see people actually coming around and realizing this album ain't shit like they thought it was after hearing 2 songs!

"Poster Child" is my favorite of the three singles so far.

But I would like to say that I actually quite enjoyed The Getaway album. I thought it was a big improvement from I'm With You.

PSA: this happens to me sometimes when bands add singles to Apple Music and then when the full album is released, the rest of the tracks still show as unavailable

Just delete the whole album from your library, close the app and reload it. The rest of the tracks should show up after that. Enjoy! It’s great

I think this is really solid but it could've been an incredible album had it been cut a little short. It's amazing how much better the band is with John Frusciante

Anthony said they have a shit ton of music they’ve been working on and to expect more sooner than we might expect.

Hopefully they have more stuff like Hey (the last track on SA disc 1 not Snow) or Don’t Forget Me or Venice Queen coming. I like when they mix it up more, but this is a really solid album.

Drug overdose is real it’s basically what kills musically gifted people, Tom Petty is an example, no concerns about the album rhcp know what they’re doing.

Whenever "Hey" comes on my playlist, I think about how I don't really want to listen to it, by the time I get part way through the song I'm completely invested, and then that one specific "Hey" where the song changes just seals the deal. It's just incredible how the emotions related to the song are instantly changed to hopeful or even reminiscent versus the mellow apathy the song is named for.
Many of my favorite RHCP songs have that change-up mid song, including Venice Queen.

I feel like the only disappointing track for me is Not the One. It’s just kind of boring. Also if any of you have never listened to John Frusciante’s Shadows Collide with People, you should immediately do that. It feels almost like a spin off of By the Way.

Saw their secret show at the Fonda in LA last night. Wow just wow. Witnessed history and yes John saves the band don't even worry about it. I also saw them receive their star on the walk of fame rad weekend.

His first legit RHCP show in 14 years. Insane here's some footage I took of Hey and his guitar solo so good!

Easily his best solo album, although DC EP is up there.

His DnB albums were junk, just noise. Tracks he sang on though were good but maybe one or two.

He had 'fuck you' money. So he said 'fuck you!'.

He has as many solo songs that are great then Chili Pepper singles for sure.

Anthony forgetting lyrics at multiple points is still never not funny to me. Chad was absolutely on fire though.

Also great to George Clinton show up. Really hoping for some Freaky Styley love on this tour. I love that album.

Album is phenomenal. Not sure of my single favorite track but early favorites are Aquatic Mouth Dance, She’s a Lover, One Way Traffic (Bass solo is insane), The Heavy Wing (Frusciante singing is pure perfection and is probably leading as my favorite song of all fucking time!!!) and Tangelo literally made me cry listening to it. It’s beautiful and Frusciante’s guitar is glorious.

I don’t think the RHCP needed saving after having Josh as guitarist but my GOD, John is the greatest guitarist for the Chili’s and my favorite guitarist of all time. And I love his voice.

Chad also goes nuts on so many songs on this album and Flea is incredible, as always. AK really fires up here to with some great lyrics and singing.

I sometimes have to pinch myself that, minus Frusciante (who is 52) the other guys are pushing or are 60 years of age! That they are still creating music this exciting is something to behold. I’m hoping they come to Australia for a tour. I saw them beginning of 2019 with George Clinton as support act and it was brilliant. I’m dying to see them (again) with Frusciante.

I have never followed this band, i only know of the Californication song and that's about it.

Saying that, is the crackhead look part of their appeal?

Liking the album more than expected.

It's Only Natural is a great example of Keidis shitting on a song while the other 3 save it.

Standouts:

Here Ever After
Watchu Thinking
White Braids + Pillow Chair
One Way Traffic
The Heavy Wing

Band sounds great when Keidis grabs his water bottle.

The lyrics of Keidis have always been pretty corny but I think vocally he sounds great on the album. It’s crazy how good his voice still sounds

This is pretty dope, as good as anything on the new album IMO. Excited for them to keep dropping stuff with more frequency

It's brilliant. Not too sure how many bands that have been around for 5 decades release new stuff that continuously sounds as good as their earlier stuff. They're unreal!

My brothers in Christ John has indeed saved the band, holy crap this one is good.

I mean, they've never been bad. Even with Klinghoffer there they were fantastic but, Frusciante is a fucking GOD and his guitar work on Eddie is sublime. Flea does kick some major ass in here as well.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think they were bad with Klinghoffer, but I don't find myself going back to the two albums he played on much. There are definitely some jams in there, but when they have John and they're firing on all cylinders such as here...it's on a totally other level.

With Frusciante it's something completely different. I will admit, when UL 1st came out I was listening with headphones to each song. Come to the last 2 songs I actually teared up. Be it from the beautiful guitar work. Be it from the fact I just cannot believe I am hearing Frusciante back again with the guys. I don't know. But I got real emotional. No other band affects me like the RHCP do, and with Frusciante back in, it gives me great joy.

Now I just wish Feb 2023 would get here quick as I am seeing them live here in Australia!

I'm With You and The Getaway weren't bad albums at all but they were totally carried by Flea and Chad musically. Some of the tracks you don't even know Josh is playing a guitar. Looking back I don't think he was a good fit as a lead guitarist for the RHCP. I guess it's the good the band stayed together during that time though.

Well in a recent interview Josh said we can thank Rick Rubin for that. He wanted to experiment and be all wild but Rick kept influencing the band how it needs to be tamer and that is exactly why you barely hear him.
