new Ridger Racer DS screens (cleaner than others)

R Racing Evolution isn't part of the Ridge Racer series.

So they decided to make it crap? It's still made by NAMCO, and as a huge fan I still wonder what went wrong when they decided to release R.

Say what you want about DS.
These girls were, with a little prompting, talking pure *filth* over PictoChat, including drawings (some rather disturbing TMNT porn) at the launch event in London on Wednesday.

wouldn't it be funny if this turned out to be a better game than the PSP Ridge Racer?

It's certainly possible considering the best Ridge Racer game of them all looks like this

1. Rage Racer is not the best RR ever...RRV is.

2. This doesn't look bad. In fact it looked quite good on the PSX.

3. It won't happen. RR64 played like crap and EVERYTHING points that RRDS will even agravate this feeling.

RRDS is a RR64 port. It will be shit, regardless of the graphics. So no, it's not possible, unless you are delluded nfan.

Dude, seismologist is like the biggest delluded nfan ever born. Satan helmed him through the fires of ultimate nfandom, and seismologist is a result of his work.

I wouldn't be so disapointed it Asphalt didn't look so freakin' good. If a damn CELLPHONE gaming company can make better graphics than you, that's a problem. Asphalt looks amazing on my DS.

Yeah it does look good, but do you think the gameplay is decent by any means?

Could be..... who knows?
Haven't played both of them, but Ridge racers is sony's only 'hit' launch title sofar. It better be good....

Sorry Cockles but I can't see what does Rage Racer have that makes it so special. Good track design, stylish cars and la lot of possibilities. But the gameplay is pretty poor (in terms of behaviour of the cars) for whatever who looks for an arcade racer. Rage Racer is like the prequel to RRT4 in terms of controls (in other things too).
The fun is at the simplicity of controls and in this nothing beats RRV, Rave Racer or the Original RR games.

Another GAF DS post in ruins due to the same people saying the same things over and over and yet no bans in sight...

IGN Vestibule part deux: Electric Bugaloo

Rage Racer was VERY special thank you very much! The track design and soundtrack are easily the high point of the series for me.

Rage Racer + NegCon = the finest RR experience known to man, and nothing like the bastard-child RR that was RRT4.

Someone please tell me I'm not off my senses. This is a port of Ridge Racer 64. RR 64 was considered by many to be a good game (check reviews), nothing mindblowing but then again not every Namco RR was fantastic.

Back to the point, this is a port of an N64 game. To me it looks just like the N64 game. What else do you want?

NST makes some good games. Blue Storm, Mario vs DK, 1080 Avalanche, Bionic Commando Elite Forces. It's hard to be the american stepchild making good lower budget games and get any type of slack.

I don't know what everyone's problem is. The game looks rather good. It reminds me of Rage Racer, with it's bright colorful graphics and simple design. Plus, you know it'll be fast and intense, so why all the hate?

The problem is that this game is not on PSP, thus it sucks!!!1

ps: I think it looks great. We all know that DS is on par with N64, so don't think you will see Xbox graphix on the DS. Be realistic...

It doesn't matter what it reminds you of; RRDS is a port of RR64. RR64 sucks hairy donkey ass, so that's primarily the reason for all the hate.

But of course there's also the graphic whores who can't go a day without comparing this game to Ridge Racers (PSP) and there's also the people who generally just hate anything about Ridge Racer.

But by and large, it's because this is a port of RR64. And RR64 sucks. ~Fin~

The problem is that it doesn't look like Ridge Racer.

If the game had any other name, people would bitch less about it, but this is not the case and you have Ridge Racer PSP reminding everybody what they could be playing with instead.

Nintendo would have been better off converting WR64 or F-Zero though I am not convinced the NDS can handle the WR64 water considering NDS texturing is rather similar to the PSOne.

I like how you said that NST makes some "good games" and then proceeded to list some of its shittiest games. :lol

It's so funny how harsh people are on this forum regarding screenshots. Last time I checked you play a game in motion and even if a game looks like shit it can still be very fun! OMG!w21@

The graphics look fine to me for a portable. I take comfort in knowing that I wont have to recharge my DS every 2 hours whenever I play this game.

You are entitled to your own opinion, but check the reviews. The media concencus versus the haters in this thread. Blue Storm is one of the best racers I ever played.

Blue Storm is either the worst or second-worst game Nintendo has published on GameCube.

-Shitty controls
-Level designs suck (really, why the fuck are some of the turns like 90 degrees?)
-Music isn't music; it's noise made by an overzealous kid with a synthesizer
-Graphics are total and utter ass technically
-The style of the game is horrific; Wave Race 64 had -- by far -- the much better style
-Overall presentation sucked

And the media consensus versus everyone else? WTF type of logic is that? That's just as bad as pointing to sales figures.

Not only was R: RE not by the RR team, but it wasn't a bad game, actually (and it got good, though not great, scores). It had a couple of nice touches here and there, but it couldn't hang with the sim-giants in terms of # of cars and tracks, customization, and modes.

snapty00 not liking it is no surprise, and his critizism is not really fair, but as a big time WaveRace fan i have to come clean. I loved WaveRace64, i played the Twilight City course probably 500 times, seriously. But i couldn't help but feel underwhelmed when i first played Blue Storm. The only thing that was really nice was the storm and the rain in the harbor level, other than that i didn't feel any love towards that game. I can't explain it, it just wasn't there.

That looks absolutely terrible. Are some people here convincing themselves this game actually looks anything but subpar? I don't blame the developer, either. They're forced to work with shoddy hardware.

mario vs. dk is the best nintendo-published game this gen. blue storm is alright. shame about the rest of nst's catalogue, but mario vs. dk establishes that they have some real talent.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong was okay, but that was a difficult game to screw up. NST's best contributions were the mini-Mario levels. Those were fun because they played like Lemmings.

You can't convince GAFFERS of that, the game just gets no love here. I loved it, best puzzle platformer i've played in some time. And lots of content for your money as well, hell when you beat the game you unlock
another world with just as many levels!
. And you can replay every game for the star, and you get some ultra hard bonus levels on top of that! Seriously, what's not to like.

yeah, mario vs. dk deserves more love. its level design is a shade less clever than dk 94's, but the time challenges and the excellent unlockable levels make up for any shortcomings. people need to look past the ugly prerendered sprites and questionable nst pedigree and see the game's brilliance.

Yeah, I mean who cares about the PSP update to the multi-million selling minna no golf or the new metal gear solid PSP game?

I have played both of them. One is average, the other knocks it out of the park. I'll let you take it from here.

The PSP has Metal Gear Acid, Ridge Racer, Sangoku Musou, and Minna No Golf among others at launch. It only cost about $30 more, and clearly has much superior visuals to the DS. IMO the PSP is going to kill the DS, but I do think Nintendo is smart, and will get out either some new Pokemon game or something else that sells millions of units and keeps the system going strong.

I like my DS, but there's no doubt in my mind that the PSP is going to crush it. I look at both these systems the same way I looked at the Dreamcast and PS2 back then. The DC was an awesome system, but there was doubt in my mind that the PS2 would crush it, just based on the hype that was being built up around it. The PSP situation is the same way; people want the unit because it's "Playstation" and expect a portable PS2. Whether or not it's actually that close is a different story, but it doesn't matter; the hype is already in place and the system is clearly going to beat out the DS. I even hear people talking about the system that could care less about buying portables or even games (they want it for music playback and the UMD movies).

Nintendo does have a headstart, however, and needs to come out with some creative software choices that will be popular enough to keep the DS selling. And ports of N64 games are not going to be the answer to this.

Well I wouldn't say that PSP is going to crush DS - infact given the number of PSPs available this year I'd say DS will probably outsell it this holiday season.

I'm quite optimistic about DS, just not the current lineup. I hate seeing games like RR and Mario 64 slapped onto two screens in such a lazy way. Here's hoping developers really take another good look at the system and come up with the kind of innovative software the system deserves. Because right now I'm not really seeing it.

Yeah well PS2 didn't even have that at launch and it looks like they're doing alright.

Holy crap where did that come from? Vibri took Ruud_Luiten's bait, but Lyte Edge really swallowed it! :)

I didn't swallow anyone's "bait." :) That's how I've felt about the PSP ever since it was first revealed. It's going to overtake the DS and Nintendo's dominance of the handhels market. Do I really care? No, that's why I bought a DS and will also be buying a PSP. It doesn't really matter to me which is the better system so long as good games are available on both.
