New screens from RE4 PS2

i find it quite funny that we ps2 owners also got the superior version of Viewtiful Joe :D

Dante makes the game surperior? Interesting.

it's pretty scary that some people wanted me to lay down €150 for that tiny difference. glad i didnt!

What..? You mean RE4 + GC? You can't possibly tell me you don't think GC isn't worth having at all. Please.

And for widescreen. And for the ability to use a dual shock instead of the GC controller. Yeah, totally stupid.

Why is that a factor? The GC controller is 110% perfect for Resident Evil 4. It won't be any better (probably not any worse) on PS2. It fits GC's controller like a glove.

And if Capcom can't get the PS2 to do reflections on the water they should be ashamed.
That kind of thing was done on PS2 way back in 2001.
Well, it's not just a simple reflection. I know I have a vid of it, just let me find it and I'll post it.

Having an extra playable character that plays differently, compared to a version with no 'extra' playable character, yes--makes it superior.

Mind you the port from GC to PS2 for VJ was near damn identical. A few hiccups in frame rate during the "Another Joe Boss" in exchange for a new storyline and a playable character with more moves than Joe himself? Sounds superior to me =p

Now, does that argument for VJ apply to RE4, don't know. Screenshots wise the PS2 version looks comparable, but how's the framerate? The Load times? etc.

If those hold up well enough than yes, the PS2 version will be superior to the GC version due to the addent content.

And this is from somebody who got the GC version of RE4 week 1, and I really don't have any intentions on getting the PS2 version at all. I liked RE4, but nowhere near the extent of many here to warrant a second time purchase. And I still say the PS2 version has a good shot at being "superior" than the GC version. Not talking about polygons and textures, but the whole deal. Pricing, content, widescreen, 480p (has that been confirmed?) etc.

Well shit some of us loved the game so much that we were going to buy it over if the added on extras were good enough but that will all come down to how good the assignment Ada bonus missions are. The reviews will tell all though. Too many critics think too highly of RE4 that they will have no problem admitting wether or not the PS2 version lives up to the Cube version in total package.

Isn't the PS2 game $30 though?

The game is $39.99, the special edition is $49.99.

to me, the edition with better graphics and sound will always be the "superior" version. not just with some added bullshit. like the ps2 need for speed hot pursuit 2 was the best by far and away, regardless of the power of the console. now while i dont think the ps2 version will look THAT far off the gamecube version in terms of visuals, i have the GCN version therefor the ps2 version is deadweight to me.

another example. MGS substance on xbox was never going to be the superior version. you know it, i know it. the ps2 version will always play the best.

MGS needs 4 shoulder buttons. Hence why Substance Xbox and Twin Snakes are lame. :)

MGS2: Substance was also ported back to PS2, if RE4 happens the same back to GC with all the new bells and whistles, it that would clearly be the definitive version...but you know what?

This looks amazing visually in and by itself let alone compared to the GC version, gamers who only owned a PS2 are in for an amazing ride.

yes if re4 never existed on gamecube this would still look fucking great. but calling it the "superior" version for a few extra side crap and one gun which looks to be a novellty anyway, is stupid. the great thing is that all the people who boycotted re4 because it was on cube or the people who dont own a cube will get to play the game of the GEN :)

Wasn't that supposed to be in the Xbox version? They even had screens of it in one the older XBNs. What the hell happened?
Nope.

Reason being, they used the engine from Evolution Skateboarding which was never released on XBOX. The actual game wasn't so hot, but the skateboarding engine was too bad and worked pretty well here. A fun little bonus...

The skateboarding game was never released on the XBox so there was no reason to include that in it which was a preview of the snowboarding game. The best part of that demo is the absolutely kickass MGS theme rock remix.

Maybe the person didn't find the Gamecube worth owning. Besides a few exclusives and the Nintendo games, most people can get all thier gaming needs on PS2. Remember not everyone likes Nintendo games. There most be alot of people out there that feels the Gamecube is not worth owning, becuase the system is 3rd America.

I don't find the Gamecube worth owning. I've bought it twice and sold it twice. I'll borrow a coworkers' for Twilight Princess and FE, but other than that: what's the fuckin' point?

It's Drinky man, why even try? ...

Haha, none of those games are compelling reasons to KEEP the system -- of them, SMS, Wind Waker, PN03, Pikmin 2 and Double Dash make absolutely great rentals. Twilight Princess might be the first truly compelling game to hit the GC library, minutes before the console is declared officially dead, of course.

Haha, The Twin Snakes. Funny that you mention RE4, too, when this thread is about the Definitive Edition coming out for the PS2.

I just came back from the store ive seen the lihgt. Thank you Drinky. Ive done it guys ive sold myh "Nintendo Gamecube". He is right; with RE:4 coming out for other systems and Mario rumored to be going multi platform nextgeenertaion there's no point. Nnitendo is dead to me and thanks to drinky ive found know that now.

Theres no point guys, sell your system he is right besides? what are you 20now? Lol dont you get embarassed to be seen playing games like PaperMario2:lololo I would make fun of you alot if this was the case. Buy Xbox they have Masater Chef and Ico artistic games but mature so you are not ashamed to play, plus PS2 has RE4. Man anyone still having gamecube must dust it off so much lol

This post gives my understanding of grammar the big FU.

That's right; I bought it twice. I'm here so you don't make my mistake and assume rental-quality games are worth owning the system for.

As for Pikmin 2, it's great, but it's not Mario/Zelda-caliber IP. Nintendo needs to work on new epic content and IP, not puzzler IP.

DieNgamers said:
That's nonsense imo. If you see it that way than every system has no games worth keeping.
You can't deny quality that easy. :lol
Hmm? Why's that?

Different games have different longevities. If there are only a handful of games interesting to you on a platform and each of those games last no more than a week...it wouldn't exactly be worth it.

I so wish I didn't buy my GC at launch, and got 2 Xboxes instead for multiplayer Halo 2. But I didn't sell it because I thought there would be some good titles coming out soon and stuff.

Drinky, selling it was a good move. Besides, you could buy it again for cheaper as the prices are reduced every year.

So basically you had the same amount of fun as any GC gamer, but saved a whole lotta money!

Well. That's his opinion. :)

I only think you can't say there's no game that's worth getting a cube for. Pikmin2, for example is no rental game, imo. It's a buy-game like a long list of other ones for the GCN.
Even if you don't like the style or whatever of those games (GCN Style or what?^^) you can't deny a certain qualitiy of those titles.
If somebody thinks there no reason to buy a console cause every game on it is shit then it's OK. So he doesn't buy it. But I wouldn't repeat my opinion of this in so many threads just to make them think the same (whatever).
You don't have to like it ;) but that's my opinion.

Haha, sure they can. That's what GAF does nearly half the time: deny quality!

I know this'll get lost here on pg6 but what are the chances of them taking advantage of the extra shoulder button to give us quick grenade access? Would be mighty handy.

It would also be nice if you could change weapons on the fly.

This is probably the biggest improvement they could make to it. Of course the extra content is nice, but they have two more shoulder buttons on the DS2. They can easily give us a quick weapon change option or a quick heal button. Just to avoid accessing the menu. This would be the smartest move.

In theory, it shouldn't be too hard for them to add it. You could set a weapon or healing item to this "secondary" button and then when pressed, it would either equip the weapon, or use the healing item. They can even split it up where they dedicate one button to weapons and one button to healing items. This is, IMO, the best improvement they can make.
