I didn't like that Homer got hit by the car at the end and flew through the wall. :/
Homer getting injured has been the new funny for ten years. Get with the times.

Ugh... this just represents everything that's wrong about The Simpsons and the reason I don't watch it anymore

I'd rather they kept it identical to the original opening but just redrawn, no extra gimmicks and characters.

I think it was pretty dumb, but oh well, I'll watch the episode anyways, since I just got an HDTV a few days ago.

That´s probably the only thing I liked about the new intro...

Anyway, I don´t really care since Simpsons is the OT equivalent of Sonic.
R.I.P. Simpsons

I didn't think it was terrible, but nothing special. Then again, I haven't seen many episodes of the Simpsons past the ones made during the 90s, so my opinion is sorta moot.

Every time I see it on TV, it's the old ones I watched when I was younger. Probably for the best judging from the reaction in this thread.

hurhurhur i get it now
not as good as sorny or panaphonics

i am thinking of the right thing right?

Who is that in the picture? I don't recognize him. It's been about 2-3 years since I've seen The Simpsons.
at first i thought it was the old burglar guy "look under the big T" but on second glance i'm not too sure...

haha the mayor and his mistress having switched sashes is pretty clever too!

i quite liked the new opening.

I'm guessing by its lack of subtlety that it's one of the gay gentlemen Homer briefly moves in with.

Oh yes.

The fact that none of you got my Carnivale joke makes me wonder if any of you were ever Simpsons fans at all....
Personally, I've always preferred the picture quality of Sorny, but I've heard that Panaphonics and Magnetbox's offerings are no slouches.

edit: my thunder, stolen :- (

Everyone knows that a genuine Panaphonics is a superior brand.

Edit: beaten

I just saw that episode on the CW like two days ago and they were much younger. Younger than Homer even. It might actually be the prowler.

Can't compete with features like a two-pronged wall plug, pre-molded hand grip well, or durable outer casing to prevent fallapart!

I thought it was okay except for the sofa chasing segment. And at the end the way the mounted hdtv fell off the wall was funny.

Sold! You wrap it up...and I'll start bringing in the pennies!

You know, I'm a hugeee Simpsons fan (seasons 1-11) and have hated the newer episodes for their lack of smart funny - but the movie wasn't bad at all. Not so much because it was as good as the older seasons but because it was a refreshing way to view the Simpsons (the slick visuals and animations).. and because the funny wasn't bad at all.

But yeah, the new intro boasts the updated Movie visuals and introduces newer series mainstays into it - I like it.

Maybe I'll start watching again. Just maybe.

I thought it was good. And because of the way it's drawn now, they can also change additional elements beyond just the couch scene on a regular basis, which given the amount of characters in this series isn't a bad idea.

Wait... what? GAF hates the Simpsons? I never knew!!

Every Simpson thread on GAF is the same. Bitch, bitch, bitch. We get it. The show went to hell 10 years ago. So don't watch (Yes, I know, you don't!) and quit lamenting the show's lost glory. The show has been on for 20 years, and yest it's not what it once was. No show with a long run ever is. But the incessant whining about the Simpsons on here is annoying.

It just tries to encompass as many visual gags in to try to get a laugh in. I liked it better when things were a bit more subtle.
This sums up the last 15 years of this show.

I would have marked out if it was the exact same opening redrawn. As it is though, it's the suckiest bunch of suck that has ever sucked.

It's a great opening.

It's the actual show and the writing that's the problem, not the animation.
No, the animation is a great part of what makes the show feel so hollow. The hand-drawn gags and overdone expressions of the first few years are endearing.

So you only like the first 5 seasons?

So having better animation is a bad thing?

South Park isn't hand drawn and has great animation yet it's still pretty funny. It's the writing not the animators.

It's almost as if they're entirely self-aware that they've gone too far with this series.
They were already making jokes to that effect when they did "Behind the Laughter" ten years ago.

The animation is not better.

Well it's subjective...

But the animation is not what made 'The Simpsons' over the last 10 years lame...

It's the writing and always has been.

I can't believe people are bitching about the opening.

Aside from a couple slight differences it's essentially the same opening that's been on for years and years and years. And I'd be incredibly surprised if the next couch gag isn't significantly shorter.

Cool. I liked it. Not much different, but I suppose the complaints would be even louder if they made any significant changes to the intro.

It always shocks me that some people would prefer the show still looks like:
Come on man, no one is wishing it looked like that. But there IS a certain quality to the season 4-5 animation that IS lost in the modern day animation.
