I'm confused. Was there some sort of point in that? I honestly have no idea what the problem is.

The only redeeming thing of that link was the link to Summer Glau

RAWR
The Simpsons died for me years ago, though the movie wasn't terrible, I just watched Dial N for Nerder as someone recommended it and meh, it was all right, not awful, but nowhere near a good Simpsons episode.

Anyhoo, back to the good stuff that came from this thread,

The non out-takes Summer Glau/Eliza Dushku video is also awesome:

Better than the new opening gif time:

The actual Simpsons series never looked like that.
The first season was not that much better. It took them a good while to draw it such that the characters were not ugly as sin.

He's showing that the new show is less blurry, uses brighter colours and has thicker lines?

I'm fine with the move to HD and away from hand drawn work. I just hope the writing improves...

The Simpsons became boring when the writers believed that making episodes about everyday life couldn't be funny anymore.

They should just make the characters grow up year over year and stick to the regular stories. Make Bart and Lisa change class already.

Definitely agree with this.

Wow, as a hardcore old school simpsons elitist, I have to say that was awesome. I expected it to be shit like almost everything that is on the show these days, but there were so many great references in the new opening. The couch gag was meh at best, but outside of that I was amazed by the quality.

I'm completely confident that whoever is complaining about it would complain if it was made back when the simpsons were great and just released now.

The first season was MUCH better than that shit. And as far as I'm concerned it only took them one season for everything to look just about perfect.

Season 18 was ok... imo

I like the opening enough my hate for seasons 12, 13, 14, has sorta passed and 18 was ok enough that I am digging up 17 to see how that is ( 19 sucked)

Yeah it's not the show it used to be and I really hate the hurting homer bs but ah well...

I agree, the animation used in the older episodes are way better than the one used on the new ones. Just compare something like homer in the land of chocolate, the shinning episode, or the Indiana Jones parody to some of the new stuff, the new animation just looks stale and is no match to the one used in earlier seasons.

Is this one of those weird things where white people think everything looks alike? Like you focus on one thing and therefore anything like that (brown wavy hair) automagically makes it look the same?

You know how its always some black guy who did it?

Know what I'm saying?

I just want to say I love your avatar and thats why my avatar is going OOOOOOAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!

Oh and put me in the camp who doesn't like the new colors and the added "detail". Ever since this happened years ago with the move to digital animation the Simpsons stopped looking like the Simpsons to me.

Pretty nice. Remains true to the original, with lots of cool little references - maybe too many references, as it's kinda cluttered. I'm not gonna get worked up over it... it's not like i watch The Simpsons anymore.

This was posted above and accurately illustrates LKBAP's point: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIZ4nAprSSE&feature=related

Try finding something from the exceedingly restrained, visually stale modern Simpsons that compares.

It's all about the writing though. No one would have animated that without the writing to back up that scene. The reason and the only reason the new Simpsons sucks is due to the writing.

Here is an example of South Park which has exceedingly improved their animation over the years and none of it was handdrawn. Things like 'The Land of Chocolate' CAN be done with the new animation of the Simpons it's just that the writers don't know how to do that anymore.

Perfect example of better animation and great writing creating great suddlety. Infact it was done in less time than the Simpsons animation process.

It isn't unexpected that a person with no personality would not be able to find it.

Yes, I have no personality. That wasn't horrifically moronic to say.

In those pictures, there's nothing wrong with any of the differences. Just seems like nitpicking. The show still looks good. The writing is another matter.

It has more to do with the fact that modern Simpsons are drawn to be as "withing-the-style" as it is possible. Animators are too afraid of going off-model and they can't create actually entertaining visuals. Adult Swim's SuperJail is animated on Flash of all things yet it looks fucking incredible thanks to the level of creative freedom allowed to the artistic staff.

smh

if only they changed it back around season 13/14

I hate to sound like a pessimist, but yep.

Homer getting injured has been the new funny for ten years. Get with the times.

Homer Simpson vs The city of New York was the beggining of the downfall of the Simpsons.

The best example of the robotic and lifeless new Simpsons animation is watching Marge and Maggie in the checkout line in the new intro. Their arms swing lifelessly from a static joint and their heads move like a puppeteer is in control.

It's not nitpicking, it's a completely different style of animation.

Does anyone watch the Simpsons and not think it's as terrible as many people say? I mean, someone must enjoy it, otherwise it wouldn't STILL be on.

I saw an episode where they were tracking Bart via his cell phone and I didn't think it was bad. I mean it wasn't the quality of the 90's episodes, but nothing about it made me think it was bad.

That season was really hit and miss. It was the last one I bought on DVD.

There were good episodes after that but really where the quality took a nosedive and the characters (most noticably homer) became caricatures of themselves.

Dude you're like this about every show. Accept that you have much lower standards on everything than the rest of us.

Current Simpsons is mostly held up by the young audience that wasn't around when it was better. They like the goofy shit that's there and don't remember a time when the show meant something.

Preach.

Though I do watch it occasionally, there have been a few OK episodes (nothing touching its former greatness of course), they do seem to be trying harder, new writers? the last one I saw "Smoke on the Daughter" wasnt too bad.

I don't have "lower standards" on anything. And considering I was shitting on Life On Mars this week, saying I'm "like this with every show" would be wrong.

The fact is, I just don't like being negative, so I try not to bitch about stuff I don't like, and that's not even all the time.

I said I saw one episode and didn't think it was horrible. I didn't even say it was GOOD. I said I didn't think it was terrible. I simply asked if anyone actually liked the show now, trying to have some sort of adult conversation about the show, and you have to type up some pretentious shit about me as a person? How about you just reply with your second paragraph, which makes sense, instead of insulting me for no reason.
