+1
New opening justified. I like it.

the charm of animation is completely lost in this new opening. :(

Marge shows no sigh of relief, the characters show no warmth, everything's so rigid. Eaugh.

Season 19 had some pretty awesome episodes:

- Little Orphan Millie
- Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind
- Dial 'N' for Nerder (one of my all time favorites)
- Smoke on the Daughter

... But that's about it. 4 good/great episodes in season isn't really that good achievement:(

that one I saw, it was pretty good actually.

eh fuck the haters. You guys probably just grew out of it and I don't blame you. It's hard trying to keep the same audience interested and keep coming up with original ideas after 20 seasons.
Even at its worst, its miles ahead of Family Guy.

It was actually my least favorite episode of those four :lol Still good episode but not great. Try to watch Dial N for Nerder. It's really great episode and almost on par with "classic" simpsons .

100% true.

I used to love simpsons but it just changed too much over the years :( But it isn't that bad in it's current state. Every episode has at least one good joke and frankly that's enough for me ;) It's not great but i'll take it.

No, and every other "it's still better than [comparison] on TV" is bullshit. The Simpsons is the worst show on TV.
MTV's lineup would like to have a word with you.

I like how it went from highquality animation with shadows to the usual crappy style they have. Wtf at Fox not offering it in HD on Youtube.

You have a point.

Network TV then.
Rather than having you do it, we shall make an additional correction and state NON-REALITY network TV. Otherwise it still beats out a bunch of stuff.

Oh jesus christ dude.

You're the opposite of what you accused me of, which is just as bad, if not worse.

Does anyone else think the 'wealthy Texan businessman' is by far the worst recurring character in the shows history? I've never seen him do anything funny, and the sterotype is just so old.

My vote goes to the the blonde business women.
Shit VO and very funny.

Yeah its all static

The part where Marge has that sigh of relief when Maggy pops out of the bag, or the way Marge and Maggie honk on the horn, all gone. The new one is totally lifeless.

My vote goes for Gil. He was good character at first but then they started to use him too often and eventually he even got he's own episode >:(

Lindsey Naegle is AWESOME, some of the best blunt deadpan humor to ever appear on that show.

"We've met you many times, Miss Naegle. Why do you keep changing jobs?"
"I'm a sexual predator."

I hate what they did to Ralph, at first you could feel sorry for him and was pretty funny. Now he's just a complete idiot and not funny at all.

God, that was bad. I wish they ended the Simpsons years ago so it would be remembered as an awesome show and not a complete fucking joke. How does it even get viewers anymore?

"You're the five people I'll meet in hell!!!"

My favorite line from the Movie.

probably a new generation of kids who have never grown up during the glory days

It was pretty shit for a while, but I've caught a few new episodes on Sky recently and they made me chuckle. What was the one where the intro is the evolution of Homer?

I think they have done the evolution of Homer couple of times now. First time it was done in Homerazzi (season 18).

I still watch the Simpsons - haven't really missed an episode since the first one. It's still got the occasional great episode, with (like the early days) a few poor ones in the mix. I think it's just the nostalgia talking here.

I still enjoy the show. Some of you guys have obviously lost interest in it so you should stop watching, there's no point bitching about the good ol' days online.

I might just watch the first hd episode to see the quality.

Does anybody know if/when the good shows aka family guy & american dad will be in HD?

pffft. people will always voice their opinions on such things and always should.

i've personally stopped entering simpsons threads that concern new episodes unless i've seen them. but something like this, to me, is emblematic of how the show has become a bastardization of its former self.

You mean King of the Hill and American Dad.

Family Guy is a bad show. They should have never brought it back. American Dad is what Family Guy used to be.

Anyone not hating on the Simpsons simply hasn't seen the latest ones.

A ripoff of Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures with Lisa lesbian overtones? Or the one where Homer and Marge are sent to death row and they tried to make it really emotional and moving, followed by an "it was all a dream (reality show)" scene.

That bit in the new intro showing Sideshow Bob, the octuplets, etc just reminded me how low the show's sunk.

Simpsons is ok now, I commonly see a promising episode ruined by a terrible third act.

The writers have been afraid to end the show on a good note for a solid decade or more now. Everything has to end on some stupid joke.

The Frying Game happened seven years ago.

Never saw the Heavenly Creatures one.

A good example of a recent bad episode is one where Bart gets a 15 year old girlfriend WHO TURNS OUT TO BE PREGNANT AND HE GOES WITH UTAH WITH HER TO MARRY HER.

I've not seen Heavenly Creatures, but I'm guessing that's the one where they invent that fantasy world? Thought it was okay. The Bart getting married episode was a bit rubbish though.

Yeah, it was horrible episode. And it got what it deserved. Lisa the Drama Queen is the lowest watched episode in The Simpsons history.

My daughter's 8 and knows the difference in quality between a classic episode and the turgid rubbish they spew out these days. She'll only TiVO the funnies, none of the dross. Clearly taught her well, but the classic Simpsons are timeless.

My two cents on where it's fallen down:

1) Very weak scripts completely veering from everyday life to whacky situations, probably born out of the whole "The Simpsons are going to..." tagline.
2) Insistance on using celebrity actors as themselves and thereby basing episodes around them.
3) Clean, digital and soul-less animation as mentioned elsewhere.
4) A change in the voices - its imperceptable but definitely there- almost across the board. Half-hearted weak deliveries of half hearted painfully weak scripts.

Amongst other things. Its s shame, it was once one of my favourite shows but now it pains me to watch a new episode.

Having seen a lot of talk of "What's the best Simpsons episode?" I've always been tempted to make a "What's the worst Simpons episode?" thread. :|

Only because it fell from such great heights. Recycled jokes, crappy special guests... the list goes on. Still, of the new era* I loved the Linguo episode.

*I can't quantify that - I guess it was the time when I watched and expected to not be amused. These days I don't bother with new episodes at all. Just watch the re-runs.

EDIT: Post above gave it a lot more thought and said it with eloquence. Cheers.
