Fresh rumors about Crystal Dynamics' new Tomb Raider game have emerged. These rumors again claim it takes place in an open-world, but now it's reported that it will star a "prime" and "mature" Lara Croft. Not only that, but its story involves "forming alliances" and learning the importance of "teamwork".

These rumors come courtesy of V Scooper who posts leaks about Hollywood and has a verified thread of several leaks that came true. V Scooper doesn't report on any other video games besides the next Tomb Raider, which makes their involvement bizarre and intriguing.

Back in 2024, V Scooper reported that Lara Croft's next AAA adventure takes place in an open-world set in Northern India. According to the leaker, Lara is racing against a Society of Raiders and other rivals to find powerful relics. They also reported a "new feature based on recruiting teams and allies to strategically aid you in missions," and there is allegedly a motorcycle to explore the open-world.

Now V Scooper has returned with new details. They claim the characters have been reworked, with Lara "portrayed at her prime, her career's peak," and that she's "Hunting Ashoka's mythical weapons that grant conquest power". The open-world also reportedly offers "harsh deserts, cliffs, abundant jungles & icy mountains".

Replying to Tomb Raider fans, V Scooper claims, "Lara herself is more grounded, mature and experienced," but the "world and the stakes around lean more mystical". They also only know of the motorcycle as the only drivable vehicle, but it's possible Crystal Dynamics will implement others.

V Scooper hasn't seen gameplay, but the "direction pointed toward a more agile and expressive traversal," raising hopes of Lara's acrobatics returning. They also report the game offers a "more strategic approach," with "Non-lethal options and even directing allies in certain situations".

Ever curl up and read a good book?

Now you can listen to other people reading aloud right next to you! Their books will have flashing skin covers and your book will lose half the pages until you come to book club 8000 times or pay extra!

I really enjoyed those Tomb Raider reboots a few years back. This would be cool if it panned out well, but man, I swear anytime I read "open-world" these days I feel a part of interest immediately leave.

Literally the opposite of what I want from a Tomb Raider game on paper at least. The last one didn't sell well, clearly the answer is to double down on tired Modern Game cliches. These games have been limping behind Naughty Dog yelping "please me too" for like ten years now.

"Allies" , "non-lethal options" , "open world" "mature character"... everything is so anti-Tomb Raider, my god. I hope Crystal Dynamics shut down and the IP is taken by people who really care. This is so fucking dumb.

Not keen on the open world. Tomb raider should be wide-linear at most.
I'm hoping it's like open world to let you drive from place to place and that's it. Once you get to an area you can explore it turns into a linear dungeon.

Lara's not going to be killing random Indians on the open world.

At least I hope not lol

In some way, the use of allies in an open world felt a bit like in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and I thought it was interesting. But the most important thing is whether Tomb Raider will finally bring Lara Croft back to being sexy again.

I also recall rumors that she would retire, pass the torch to one of her team mates and go live somewhere with her wife or some shit. Not joking, and while I doubt it to be true....

You never know, nowadays eh.

One section has you in the city as a part time worker at a scam center to pay for new equipment. "You need to buy google play cards to get your refund."

Tomb Raider should be a globe-trotting adventure, any kind of open-world design doesn't gel with that.
We've had that though over several trilogies now. Having one theme to focus on particularly within an open world interesting traversal and treasure above and below would be a lot of fun. I think it's at least worth keeping an open mind to see what they have to offer.

I wonder if every gaming CEO has a big red Open World emergency button on their desk.

Sir, the last entry sold less. Holy SHIT! Must be because it wasn't exactly like every other Modern Game enough! *smashes button*

Please be true. Survivor Lara was a quarter of the athlete that Classic/Legend Lara was.

All of that sounds fine. I just have no confidence in crystal dynamics after everything they have been through. Will need to see it in action before being hyped. Need something to scratch that action adventure itch again. Indy was good, but not great.

I'm hoping that means we get fanservice Lara back

On that front I doubt it. The culture over at CD seems like they would be very much against that. Unless we ever see the Tomb Raider franchise under a European or Asian roof, we're probably going to continue getting a watered down version of her. At least physically.

Fans were already upset about the new concept art of Lara that released a year ago, and how masculine they made her face.

Hell no... But this is what we will get. The art style is 1 to 1. It's the same style as the pinball fx tables logo and Lara. I bet your crew of woke scolds take center stage in a classic tlou2 style bait and switch. Lara gets regulated to back ground tasks.
So a "new crew can form" and they can monitize it.

Calling it now.. Dev started in prime woke era 2020 and too late to pump the brakes. Tailored for the modern audience.

The sad thing is they can make a great tr game, tr 2013 and rise were good games. (haven't played shadow yet). But if they got infected and devs left idioligically driven people there yeah disaster similar to vielguard. Remember games had to start being deved during covid. Prime woke era.
Flat chested, no white straight "Allies" just a rag tag bunch of pronouns.

I hope you're right just for the LOLs.

I have zero faith in the new Tomb Raider game. I hope it's good but after the Netflix show (which I assume is a taste of things to come) I choose to be cynical.
