New Trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Loving it. It was never gonna be Ghostbusters 3 with the originals running around New York busting ghosts. 2 did that and whilst I love it, the movie was a retread of the first. Different can be good as long as it respects what came before and this does seem to be doing so. Also love Rays occults is still a thing.

This one has the originals running around Oklahoma fighting ghosts because one of them forgot about the Twinkie.

Meh, should be a fun I Remember Berries flick.

Nothing wrong with that.

Nothing will ever be able to capture the original Ghostbusters vibe. It was too much a product of specific actors at a specific time.

They've replaced Bill Murray with Finn Wolfhard. You really think this feels the same as the originals? Aside from the trappings like Ecto-1 what about this feels like Ghostbusters to you? Does a line like "this man has no dick" feel like it fits in this?

It's like they saw the success of Stranger Things decided to make something in that style, looked around for whatever nostaglic IP they have lying around and slapped the Ghostbusters name on it. Or someone trying to see what it might have been like if Spielberg had made Ghostbusters.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
It looks good, but depends how much the OG Ghostbusters get on screen and if not a lot then if the newer cast is likable enough for us to not keep asking when the Ghostbusters gonna show up.
Ray is still selling books I see, I recognize that place before he pick up the phone
Not sure what people mean when they say it don't feel like Ghostbusters, the whole vibe and world looks part of the OG Ghostbusters, so all is good.
And everything shown looks like it's from the beginning.
And that Terror Dog looked fantastic!
I do think Paul Rudd definitely fits the series
Not sure what the deal is with the Dualsense ad just before the end was, are we missing something?

Bill Murray is in this.
I know, but I mean in terms of the lead (or a prominent figure at least). The focus has shifted from Murray, Ackroyd and Ramis to a bunch of kids. That's a pretty significant shift in what they are going for tonally.

Murray is 70, Aykroyd is 69, Ramis is dead.
Sure but I'm not meaning literally using them. Instead of using people who are kind of modern-day equivalents of them they have changed up the dynamic and went for kids.

I'm also not demanding that they should try and replicate the feel of the old ones either. I'm not sure I need them to do another Ghostbusters. I'm fine with the old ones as they are. Give me something new instead. But that's the reality of studios. Gotta mine that IP for whatever it's worth.

They tried that with 2016, it was total dog shit.

I'd rather watch a movie about Egon's grandchildren meeting up with the original Ghostbusters than a retread of what they tried to do in 2016.
Yeh, that version wasn't great either. But one of the most famous parts of Ghostbusters is one of the main characters getting a blowjob. The shift from that to this trailer is pretty stark. Is a series just a collection of props, character names and images that you can trot out so that the nostalgia receptors in people's brains go all fuzzy and you can sell them merch? Or do things like tone not matter?

Like I said above, I guess I'm really proposing they just leave it be. There doesn't actually need to be a new Ghostbusters.

You know what, I dunno why I wasn't thinking of this before but with Jason Reitman writing it there is actually something kinda nice about the idea of him taking the series his dad created and moving it to a new generation.

He was on the set of GB1 and in GB2 so he has more of a connection to the movies than anyone else who could've made it.

Yeh, there’s something quite sweet about him writing about a story about a kid discovering what Egon left behind for him. I’m not a huge fan of franchise exploitation. But that does make this one feel less like it’s purely cynical cash grab and that there’s actually some heart to it.

After Star Wars I can't get excited again. Please let it be good. But I'm fully expecting CHOOSE THE FORM OF THE DESTRUCTOR! And boom...boom...a 500 feet Donald Trump attacks.

But still, why did it have to be kids?

They got Rudd, who is a funny and a likeable fella and a good fit for the Ghostbusters uniform. Find two others (the 4th is the token black woman spot anyway) and there you go.

It's pretty evident they want to make "Stranger Things: The movie" here. Problem is, Ghostbusters was a very funny comedy. This looks like a melodrama that aims to nostalgia and takes itself seriously.

Fuck, Hasbro are going to make me buy the buy the original movie figures + the new movie figures aren't they?

*EDIT*
Oh dear, people already getting ready to pounce if the original characters don't have enough screen time together and a proper reunion.

So what they should still be driving around NYC in Ecto-1 fighting Ghosts wearing the same fucking clothes exactly like they did in the original just with kickass CG. Just like Han Solo in the new Star Wars that was fucking sweet. You can CG Ramis just like Tarkin.

They're already pouncing on it and they haven't even seen the movie yet.

Murray says they (as in the three of them, together) wear proton packs, and they've released pictures of the toys of the original three using their proton packs, but hey you gotta get them YouTube moneys.

The funny thing about what Murray said is how they've improved the proton packs since 1984. They still look exactly the same, but instead of being powered by heavy car batteries in 1984 they use modern batteries so they're much lighter than before.

I'm enjoying the underwhelming expectations for this movie, as opposed to, say, the Star Wars sequels. It hopefully won't set it up for disappointment.

One thing I did notice, however, is the write-off of some of Ghostbusters 2. It appears that Jeanine still had a romantic relationship with Egon, but in GB2, she's romancing Tully. Also, Reitman stated that they used the original Ecto-1 from the '84 film, not the upgraded one from GB2, which I actually prefer, especially with the old school Statue of Liberty NY plate. It's quite understandable that GB2 did not make an impression on audiences the way the original film did back in '84, but as a kid, growing up with both films was a blast! I love both movies equally, including the cartoon.

GB2 is why Murray refused to do a third movie for so long.

Yes, I know he was stalling GB3 for decades, and sadly I bet he regrets that in some way now, especially following Ramis' death. His willingness to not only cameo in this film, let alone the 2016 film, demonstrates that, I think. Aside from Zombieland, maybe it was that one appearance he made in full gear that made him realize how special his character was to so many people.

His role in this is a bit bigger than the 2016 cameo.

As shit as this movie will most likely be, you know the introduction of the 3 OG Ghostbusters, fully decked out ready to serve some proton pack justice is going to be epic as fuck.

And let's be honest, it can't possibly be worse than the last one.... can it?
