New VIRTUA FIGHTER Project | Combat Gameplay First Look

There's been some controversy here regarding the slow-mo zoom parts.

I don't believe these will be in the final game, they merely serve to highlight new gameplay features that weren't in previous games

Remains to be seen how these will be implemented from a control perspective

I'm expecting another button especially with that blue blocking sequence. Japan finally came around to admitting that VF3 is awesome so I don't know think adding another button is such a big deal anymore.

Hmm

The quick rise may be as simple as double tapping up as soon as you land.

The head bob may be as simple as holding block and pressing back.

I loved VF3's implementation of elevated stages but the addition of the evade button made the controls feel too fiddly to me. I can handle the 4 attack buttons on Tekken no problem, but with VF it just became complex.

That interview makes me think they are going to try reimagining Virtua Quest with Stella as the protagonist in a virtual reality mirroring our own. That is likely why he is tight-lipped. He does not want to spoil it.
I have no doubt that Stella is the protagonist, but I imagine that the lore is shown in the same formula as MK9.
The name Stella itself is already revealing, stelae are memorial stones, this character is probably not human but an android based on Sarah, who probably died but her actions and personality were put into the AI in Stella.

In the video why does he deflect the question about Sarah?

VF4FT is the best game in series and it still doesn't have a home release. Just bonkers.
I am just happy it is emulated. I still prefer vanilla VF4 though.

Hope they don't go down the "alternate time-line" like MK did, that messed up the series for the worst..

I'd prefer them to reboot the story and treat this game as an origin story.

Apparently Lau killed Pai's mother, show it.

Sarah was kidnapped and brainwashed, show it.

Jeffrey's boat got destroyed, show it.

Question Mark What GIF by MOODMAN

Lau did not murder Pai's mother. He left her to focus on training and she died of overworking or something.

Dumb bitch

By the 90s washing machines were common in China

Edit: maybe Shun made her wash the carpet too much, he's the real villain

Edit 2: yeah I'm drunk…. a bit like Shun

I would genuinely buy it "just" for that, tbh.

It looks really good, I wish I could still get into fighting games. They trigger my FOMO badly.

It is not going to be out for a long time. I am just happy that I have more to look forward to than an update to a two decade old installment.
then don't show anything until it is ready to come out, or close. See what Sony is doing with Tokon or Riot with 2XKO.

This drip-feed of awful presentations and show-nothing videos and trying to hype up a re-release of a 20 year old game instead... is just horrible.

I think the reason it was announced too early may have been because they wanted to inject some hype for their worldwide VF tour tournament and new versions of VF5: Final Showdown. The way the graphics look compared to other fighters makes it look like it may be aimed more at the next gen than the current. I think it's way off, at least 2 years if not into 2028.

Having said that Sega announced several games even earlier at the Game Awards the year before last that haven't been seen since like Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio. I think only Shinobi of the games they showed at the 2023 event have come out.

True

I think they wanted to prove the series had a future before people invested time in VF5 Revo.

Nobody cares about VF5: Final Showdown. I know this is hard for VF5 fans to hear but it's true. This series is dead and needs to make a splash - imagine if they unveiled gameplay that was super smooth and slick and was like "open beta signups now". Again, see what Sony did with Tokon which came out of nowhere. Instead just this slow feed of tedious bullshit is doing the opposite.

For me personally and I think and for many others into competitive fighting games we need to feel the series has a future. I and am sure many other would've groaned at them doing more updates of VF5 and announcing a world tour and no new game. A new VF on the horizon gives the current game with it's updates and world tour a shot in the arm at least. I wouldn't have cared about either without that. Tokon is a new standalone series in a completely different situation.

I agree though that they shouldn't be doing these presentations without something substantial to show. They've said it's their biggest most ambitious game to date so they need to give themselves more time instead of drip feeding tidbits.

As far as I am concerned VF has more future potential than Tekken 8, Street Fighter VI, Guilty Gear Strive, and Tokon combined. Then again I am actively repulsed by seasonal character drops and fight pass garbage.
