I've always had a more red face with white around the eyes, no idea why. At least I only have one chin now though :D

My hamstring / adductor muscles are still a tad sore but was able to goto the gym today. Hot water soak with foam rolling / trigger point release seemed to have helped heal faster. Maybe I'm being paranoid but I felt a bit guilty and thought I was gaining weight for the few days I was out :-(

First time posting photos, be gentle. Apparently losing 90lbs and removing the neckbeard makes you look like a fucking child lol, I will grow back a more well kept beard.

Awesome dude. I think you had mentioned some self esteem issues previously but I think you look great :).

Yeah, I definitely have self esteem issues. Being heavily obese my whole life has made me very withdrawn, and now that I've lost the weight I find myself depressed due to the loose skin which I hate so much. But hey, at least skin be cut off, not that I will ever be able to afford it, but at least I know it's possible, unlike removing 100lbs of fat!

AND, today I hit my current goal of 15 stone which I'm happy with, although my waist and chest are too high still (41.5 / 44), but they are being inflated with unfair inches as I like to call them, from the loose skin. At this point I don't know where my final goal will be, but I've always wanted to fit comfortably into a regular large which is 38/40 so I'm quite far away from that still, it may never be possible due to the skin. I'm currently around a 1X, starting at a 5X so I can't complain about that.

Ok, here's my first post here. I've been working real hard, and it's paying off. I have lost 42 pounds, and I'm aiming for another 15. Well, the weight isn't goal as much as the look/feel, but it's something to shoot for. I started at 236, and I'm at 194 this morning. 180 is the current goal.

I have an under-active thyroid, so this progress has been really big for me. Every other time I've tried, I have failed. My metabolism is crap, but I've been so disciplined this time around that I'm actually winning the fight.

Anyway, here are the pics.

Last year about this time:

Out of curiosity, is everyone using a target weight or a bf% as a goal? I was speaking with my coach and his suggestion was to target a bf%. He expected me to build lean mass gradually as I worked out so a target weight a few months after starting to work out might be obsolete.

Anyway, here are the pics.

Looking good :). I'm a bit envious as it looks like it's really showing in your face as well. I can't for the life of me get the fat off my cheeks so my face is staying pretty round. Strictly dieting, or hitting the gym as well?

I guess it's about time I post in this thread.... I'm fucking terrible at taking selfies and the most recent one is actually quite old... I should take a new one at the gym tomorrow... Anyway...

90lbs lost over the last 14 months or so.

June 2015:

I bought new jeans over the week-end since the ones from last winter are too big now... I dropped 14 sizes of pants since March 2014... I feel like Sexy ski suit Flanders right now lol.

I finally had to go shopping recently. I sized down out of everything I had and it was getting to the point where it was just plain too uncomfortable to keep wearing my old stuff. It feels good!

You're making awesome progress, man. Keep it up.

My weight loss progress is interesting. It was in July that things really started to snowball for me. I've been tracking weight and trying for a good 4 years, and I kept at it, but it wasn't until just 3 months ago that the progress really kicked in.

For people struggling to lose weight, as I did, eventually you'll reach a tipping point where the muscle you gain and the distance you're able to run finally catches up with what you eat, and you just start shedding pounds. I know some people can see immediate results, but for those that aren't seeing any, stick it out.

Today was a good day. I went to IKEA to buy a new chair and I had some successes:

- I bought a human sized chair, with a reasonable weight limit (my previous chair was specially made for obese people and reinforced)

- I walked around the whole of IKEA without getting tired or out of breath at all (this still amazes me, being able to fucking walk amazes me......)

- I avoided buying the delicious looking hot dog on my way out

Way to go dude, that's awesome!

I know the feeling, the difference it make to your cardio when you start losing weight is crazy.

I remember having to stop to catch my breath when walking back from the grocery store 2 streets away from my house... Now today I walked home from work (8.4km) and I was just fine at the end.

I'm very inspired by everyone's great progress. I'm still at the beginning of my weight loss journey. I've been very stagnant. I have over 200lbs to lose and it seems insurmountable. I've been terrible with my diet (always start tomorrow...so must binge today) as well as not going to the gym in like 2 weeks. I need to just focus on what I can do today. I can eat well and go to the gym today. It's just so disheartening when I look at myself in the mirror and squeeze into my clothes. Sorry for the long rant. I hope with encouragement I can do better. Thanks

Week 11: 1.8lbs loss
Week 12: 4.8lbs loss
Total: 43.6lbs loss (3.6lbs per week average)

Will be 3 months next week, and over 3 stone lost (nearly 3 and a half hopefully). Chuffed :D

Lost almost 30 pounds, now I seem to be sort of plateuing. Getting very frustrated.
Have you adjusted calorie intake to account for your weight loss? Your daily maintenance level is lower than it used to be. But even if you have, plateaux happen very often. I'd say be patient for a cple of weeks, if nothing moves by then shake it up a little bit. Could be moving to a lower deficit, could be a bit more exercise, could be something punctual like a weekend of cheating, or a week of more-intense-than-usual cardio, something to move the needle. In any case, try not to freak out, it happens to all of us. Happened to me. And yes, I freaked out. ;)

Anyone have a certain weight they can't seem to get below? After multiple weight loss attempts I can never seem to break past 200lbs. I think at my heaviest I was 260 and then got down to 205. I started focusing on fitness at the point and my weight slowly went up and settled in the 215-220 range. I've tried focusing on losing weight a few more times but never seem to get below 200. This summer I've been focused on weight loss again and I'm down to 203 this morning. I've been doing a bastardized version of intermittent fasting(13 hrs vs 16) because it allows me to eat less strictly at an individual meal but still lose weight. I'm trying to not get to excited about getting below 200 as it won't really change anything. I think setting a new lower goal before I reach my first one might be a smart move.

I have noticed that since I've just been losing weight by eating less I don't feel as good about as times in the past. The working out part really seems to help self confidence more then it does weight loss.

Are you still paying attention to calories?

The idea of IF is to drop body fat while maintaining muscle mass. If you're trying to shred, think about going super low carb along with the IF, and keep calories around maintenance levels, maybe even below maintenance.

Also pretty important is how you are feeling.

Weight is so crazy. I had a 8lb swing in a few hours, I know why, but its still crazy. That's so much stuff.

Thanks. The needle finally moved down again this week. I'm glad it did. Felt pretty fucking demoralizing.

Shit, man! Beautiful work. And they say black is suppose to make you look thinner. Are you going to the gym? If you do you got an awesome time ahead of you. You won't just get thinner, you'll also have a strong ass body beneath it all just waiting to pop.

Yeah I've been going to the gym for about 15months now.

Actually my trainer sent me on forced leave this week lol... I've been going there 5-6 times a week for over a year and I was starting to burn out so she forbidden me to go for a whole week... I feel like I'm on vacation even if I'm still working every day haha.

Turns out the gym is, by far, the easiest part of the whole weight loss process. Changing 32 years of bad habits a lot more difficult.

All I'm really doing is watching calories. The reason I said bastardize is because I'm only doing a fasting routine so I can have 2 600-800 calorie meals, a snack, and dessert and stay under 1,800 calories a day. If I threw in breakfast before school/work I think it would be much harder. So an average day is like

10:30 - 2 cheese sticks 160 calories
12:30 - left over from dinner or fast food meal around 600-800 calories
4:00 - apple or 1/4 cup almonds/cashews so 80 - 160 calories
7:00 - salad w/ protein and carbs or chicken/sweet potato/broccoli 500-700 calories
8:30 - 2 squares dark chocolate 150 calories

Some days I miss the first snack and start to feel really hungry around noon but don't have any mood issues like I did in the past if I skipped a meal. I also stress less about having a shitty meal or going out for a few drinks with a friend cause it's easier to make up for it that day or the next.

The beginning is always the toughest - I've been able to start a shit ton of times, but had always quit in about 2-3 weeks until this current bout. A sustainable change is what's required and if you tackle too many things at once, the changes increase significantly that you'll fall backwards quickly.

Focus on just a few small things. Drink more water (or replace sugary drinks with water) - don't think that this gets you more calories to eat. Add a brisk 15-30min walk after lunch or to a late afternoon break 1 to 3 times a week (Mon / Wed / Fri?). Honestly log everything you eat - if not the exact amount, at least WHAT you are eating. Do this for at least 3 weeks or until it becomes habitual - it takes a minimum of 3 weeks to make a habit stick for simple tasks.

Then change the brisk walk to a short jog / walk mix. If you're at 200lbs to lose, this will be tough, so just focus on jogging for a minute, then walking to recover, then jog for a minute again, then recover. You don't have to go fast, just make sure you're making an honest effort for a full minute every time. You'll slow down over the 15-30min...that's normal. Change into gym clothes when you do this so that the act of changing into gym clothes becomes a trigger so your mindset switches to an exercise "mode" so to speak.

Once this becomes natural, going to the gym will become a bit easier imho as your easing yourself into a new habit.

Also, consider fitness classes - the smaller ones will have coaches that are invested in your success and will work with you on your goals and offer classes that help you transition from a sedentary lifestyle to regular attendance / participation. Also, not having to think about what to do for your workout is extremely helpful :)

Last, 2 things -
You're only competing against yourself. We have a tendency as humans to compare ourselves to others, but ultimately, it should be you competing against you from day ago and to make a conscious effort to improve one step every time.

The road to success will have its ups and downs - you've seen a lot of people plateau on this thread. I have too, from strictly a weight standpoint, but I also know that I'm able to run harder longer, lift more weight for more reps, and see changes in other metrics as an aggregate whole, so don't cheat yourself out of improving just because you stop short of certain metrics.

I agree 100% with everything rykomatsu said.

I will simply add... I know it can get expensive quick but if you can afford it, take a private trainer at the gym (Once a week if possible) and eventually try to find a good nutritionist that you can meet regularly to talk.

When I went to the gym to sign up 15 months ago, it was the very first time I ever set foot in a gym in my whole life. My private trainer's help was invaluable. He helped me get a solid program in place and also helps prevent any injuries while working out which is very important.

It took me almost a year before I finally accepted his suggestions of taking an appointement with the gym's nutritionist. Man... Best decision I've ever taken in my life. She literally changed my life.

The truth is... This is as much a therapy than an actual food advice thing. I've always had social and self-esteem issues all my life and talking with her finally put me on the right track. The changes in my life and my character in the last six months since I started seeing her are night and day. I've had stretches of 2-3 appointements in a row with her where we didn't even talk about food once lol. Like she told me at the beginning "Before we can fix your diet, we better fix all the other stuff in your head first. This will only make the rest even easier afterward". In my case it's about fixing 32 years of very bad habits in my head.

Now don't get me wrong... Those people will help you a lot but that doesn't mean that the whole process will suddenly be easy. This is, by far, the thoughest thing I've done in my whole life. It's constant high and lows and they can be very difficult to deal with. I've had 2-3 weeks stretches where I was on a fucking high like I was walking on a cloud. Happiest I've ever been in my life. Then overnight my mood would switch completely and then I'd be depressed for a couple of weeks. I'm in a bad period right now. My weight hasn't moved in weeks and I know it's my fault because I'm not doing enough effort (lots of things happened outside of the gym/food in my life in the last 2 months so it's a lot to deal with at the same time). The motivation is not there at all right now.... But I have an appointement with her tomorrow night and I'm sure she'll be able to help me move in the right direction.

Also, make sure that you get along well with your trainer/nutritionist. In a way it's a very personnal relationship so if it doesn't "click" between the two it just won't work.

The trainer I had for the first year was nice but then he moved to another city at the end of the summer so my nutritionnist ended up becoming my trainer now. We get along really well so it's perfect for me. It's not everyday that you have the chance to meet someone who has that big an impact on your life...Anyway I digress lol.

Last thing I will say. Set yourself some milestone to reach. The obvious choices are weight related of course (for example me was getting under 300lbs which I did a little bit ago and now I'm aiming for total 100lbs lost which I will get to eventually). But don't limit yourself to weight milestone. It can be really ANYTHING. Take walks in the neighborhood and set distances as milestone trying to get further and further everytime. Anything is good. The more milestones you set up, the more you'll reach. It's great for motivation to reach those.

In my case, the last milestone I've reached, I wasn't even aware that it was a thing before I actually did it lol. A couple of months ago I moved from having to go to specialty store to buy clothes big enough for me to just being able to go to normal store like Walmart (that was another big milestone lol). This is great by itself obviously but the really great thing that happened last week. I went to Walmart to buy sweatpants and while walking around the men's departement I noticed a fall jacket on the rack. The thing catched my eye cause I thought it was pretty. I checked and they had my size so I tried it on and it fit perfectly so I said fuck it and bought it. While waiting in line at the cash I suddenly realized something. For the very first time in my life I was buying a piece of clothing for my pleasure instead of by necessity. This had literally never happened before. That feeling man...

Same here, 1XL you can buy pretty much anywhere. My goal is a large but that might not be possible due to loose skin.

I was actually at 377 when I started so to say that you are an inspiration is a fucking understatement lol...Great job!

You guys are a hell of an inspiration! Decided to share my own (quote to see the links, wrapped in email tags)

January 2012 - Nearly 300 lbs

August 2015 - Closer to about 225 if I recall correctly

I still have a ways to go, but man do I feel so much better. I don't even really recognize myself in the mirror anymore because I'm still not used to looking... different. I still have a gut and big thighs, but I just feel so much better.

My goal is drop another 40 lbs by February or so. I hope I'm well on my way.

Threads like these give me hope and inspiration. I only recently started trying to lose weight. I am 6'4 and started at 428 now down to 390 in just a bit over 3 1/2 months. As of now I am mainly just walking as running/jogging kills my legs hardcore. I know eventually I will need to start running/jogging but as walking still has the pounds coming off I'll keep with that for now. Only thing holding me back is not having a job so I can't afford to go to a gym just yet to lift.

I just recently took a picture of myself and am going to save it to post when I hit 300 and will update again once I reach my final goal of 220-230.

I love how weight loss always makes people look younger too

I've been lax these past few weeks, need to sort it out. Luckily have remained the same weight.

Week 13: 1.4lbs loss
Week 14: 4.0lbs loss
Week 15: 0.6lbs loss
Total: 49.6lbs loss (3.3lbs per week average)

Can anybody help me analyse the pattern forming over the past few weeks?

1wL7FeO.jpg

High one week, less than half the following week. Up then down, lower loss each peak/trough. I haven't dropped exercise or consumed a load more calories in any of these weeks. I've done some googling and kind of understand but if somebody here who's experienced the same could explain in layman's terms that'd be great.

Going to a free trial lesson for a KTX Kickboxing class tomorrow (Filipino Kali, Muay Thai, American Kickboxing). If I don't find it too hard I will be signing up for a lesson per week.

Total: 49.6lbs loss (3.3lbs per week average)

Can anybody help me analyse the pattern forming over the past few weeks?

Look at a rolling average instead of single sample points. This will require you to take more measurements but it will give a better idea.

Any given day you can be +/- a few percent of your bw due to water retention, digestive track fullness. IE I just ate most of my food for yesterday late pretty all at the end of the day. So i weight a pound more than I did yesterday, but that is because of the food schedule being variable. Likewise I can weigh after I workout and be down 2lbs or so due to water weight lost through sweat. In same vein the day after a really hard workout I will be up a lb due to water retention(leg days).

Its good to track and see progress but its bad to give too much mental processing over to worrying about it. Do not start gaming your diet around the daily results, focus long term.

I get that, but I've been eating and weighing myself at the same times, that's where the confusion comes in.

Either way it's not deterring me, I'm just curious as to the pattern :) But thanks!

Brilliant progress.

I love how weight loss always makes people look younger too

I've been lax these past few weeks, need to sort it out. Luckily have remained the same weight.

Looking swag.
Nice beard progress too.

Thanks guys.

I checked my weight for the first time in two months today. I'm at 211 which officially puts me at pre-2005 weight. Quite literally in the best shape of my life, hahaha. Still a ways to go, but I was really happy, since I was expecting to be at 220 max and I was worried I'd gained some weight.

Here it is, I'm down 111 lbs since April 6th when I had my vertical sleeve gastrectomy.

Near my max weight; fat, mostly depressed, wore anything that would fit, hence the shirt:

Down another 20 lbs since my last post in here. Total weight loss is 131 lbs since April 6th.

Starting to get "you're losing too much weight" comments. But I still have a good 20 lbs of body fat to lose.

Why does he wear the mask!?
^ Doing fantastic.

Ignore those "You're losing too much weight" comments, it's just people not yet used to the new you.

BUT, make sure you do know when to stop.

Man you guys are doing amazing job... I can't wait to have that much progress showing...

Don't get me wrong, after almost 90 pounds lost I see a difference for sure but I don't feel like I really changed that much other than being smaller.

I've had a couple of rough weeks lately... Lots of mood swings and motivation going up and down all the time. I can be super happy in the morning and really fucking depressed in the afternoon... Goes up and down all the time... Bleh...

Funny thing... I realized today that my now go-to solution when I'm getting depressed is to buy clothes.... Man wtf? I ALWAYS hated buying clothes all my life but right now it's the most tengible proof of my weight loss. I started with 5XL shirts a year and a half ago and I am now down to 2XL. This means that I can just buy stuff at good old regular Walmart or OldNavy instead of having to go to super overpriced specialized stores. My pants also went from size 58 to 44 in the same time span.

I bought a new winter coat today and GOD DAMN does it look amazing lol... I'm actually looking forward to the cold so I can wear it lol.

It feels so nice to wear tight and fitted clothes for once.

But then I look at myself in the mirror after coming out of the shower and bleh....here we go again....

I've lost about 20-25lb since my peak of 185 in July, but it feels like I've stalled...I'm staying around the 160-165lb mark and been here for about 3-4 weeks.

My diet hasn't changed drastically, if anything my calorie count is down a little bit to adjust for the decreased weight - about 1500-2000 calories per day.

Exercise regimen has also increased
Mon - HIIT 1hr
Tue - Strength (resistance / weights) 1hr
Wed - Rest or HIIT 1hr
Thu - Strength 1hr, Yoga 1hr
Fri - Rest or HIIT 1hr
Sat - HIIT + Strength 2hr
Sun - Hiking low / med intensity 1-2hr

Any thoughts what's going on? I haven't lost motivation to keep to my diet or workout regimen, but puzzled at the stalling.

Do you think you are gaining muscle mass? It might be a good idea to start taking some measurements and tracking those instead of weight.

I weighed in at 200.2 today, so close to my goal of getting under 200 lbs. This week will be tough though as I'm going out to dinner tonight before a concert and meeting a friend at a brewery Thursday night. I'm sure it will happen though as long as I don't eat emotionally.

I'm not sure what to set as a new goal. My lowest adult weight was 185 pounds at 18 in the military. I was still pretty soft at that time though so I'm not sure how low I can get. A bigger thing to me would be getting rid of the man boobs but since I had them at 18 I don't think they are going anywhere. Like the poster a few post above I like looking better in clothes and having other people notice. Its just out of the clothes there doesn't seem to be much of a change.

Are you seeing definition anywhere, are you improving in your workout performance?

I'm the same weight I have been for the last 3 months but body composition is altered due to weight training. Definition and vascularity everywhere.

Hoping to get to 220lbs by end of year, currently at 228. After that gonna go get consult for skin surgery I think.
