Just to these that didn't know he is the Chief Editor of Game Informer.

It is basically the first reliable info from a reputable person that is not pastebin, reddit or some random era.

Of course these devkits are not final so what he is hearing now from devs could change until the final SoC.

The first few posters got that wrong, I already corrected it on the first or second page, yet people just jump on the bandwagon trying to roast MS when in reality they just make a fool out of themselves not knowing the difference between a SoC and a SSD. 🤷‍♂️
 
They will use the same base as Sony. There's no 1 extra year advantage now.

Its down to how much losses they want to take up front. They can have more ram, more cooling, slightly faster boost clocks, bigger ssd ramdisk. It will be closer than ps4/xb1, but nowhere as clear cut as pro/xb1x. These will all bite back into how they can price it.

In cerny we trust.
 
8k!!!gtfo ,they barely do 4k ,people should lower their expectations,if they will release a console like the bs trailer told us ,that could cost 1000$,nobody will pay that much for a console,anything more than 500$ is alreay too much,400$ is the sweet spot for consoles.Lets not forget that the average parent consider consoles toys

Both XBOX and PlayStation next gen are going to be very similar. They're using the same basic specs of hardware from AMD. The differences will only be in details like RAM configuration and storage space, and things like that. They're going to be practically the same, the main difference will be the games — like it always has been. Whoever has the most entertaining lineup of exclusive games will be the leader. This is why Microsoft went crazy buying talent and studios.

This is basically 2013 all over again, when XBOX One and PS4 both launched with similar hardware and only difference being PS4 used GDDR 5 RAM as opposed to XBOX One using GDDR4 which made a difference — games technically ran slightly better on PS4 at the time. A lot of games at the time only ran at 720P on XBOX One while running at 1080P on PS4. This was a big debacle during 2013 to 2015.

But like I said, the difference will always come down to the games. Currently PlayStation has been leading in exclusive games. They've been pushing out massive successes and pushing quality over quantity. Microsoft is going to need to put out more than just Halo, Gears, and Forza to attract consumers.

The base is the same but what you add custom affect directly your SoC power... remember Xbox One bring drastically underpowered due eSRAM taking too much silicon space.

And 2013 PS4 had 40% power advantage over Xbox One and that shows even today in games.

Right. This is where we will see differences once you start digging into the hardware at a detailed level. But for the vast majority of consumers — they're going to be the same power-wise and games will look great on both platforms. The specs for this next generation are going to be beefy, so I don't think they will matter much as in previous years. We know both platforms are going to be beastly.

When XBOX ONE and PS4 launched they were already somewhat underpowered for the time. This time should be different.

Right but that's for the tech heads and nerds. 99% of the people spending dollars on these next gen systems aren't going to look at it that way. They're just going to buy what they like most or what their children want to play for Christmas.

Either way the remark is correct. He was very careful not to say most powerful console ever built, after hyping up how powerful the console will be.

Sony can focus on making a console that plays games.

Microsoft have to focus on making their console a streaming device.

Cerny didn't leak the PS5 specs, he leaked the Xbox Scarlet specs.

I don't think Microsoft care about power this time around (again). The power is a means to an end in powering servers etc.

The most worrying part about this reveal is when Phil said something along the lines of "connect to a local Scarlett and stream from that". To me, it sounds like i'll be connecting to Joe Bloggs' xbox down the street to stream, if it's closer than mine at home.

Local as in local network for multiplayer games locally instead of split screen a person could stream off laptop as player 2.

I mean as in, i'm out and about on my phone and I want to stream Halo 6. If Joe Bloggs has an xbox closer to me than mine, I can 'connect' to his and stream the game from there.

I know it sounds a bit whacked out, but BT (british telecom) have been doing a similar thing with WIFI for years. You can connect to someone else's home router when you're out and about in order to get wifi and yes, it slows their internet speed down.

"developers" have also said the Xbox is significantly more powerful than the ps5. And don't forget they also said the dev kit is 13tflops

Basically the same hw, I expect the power difference to be minimal and non important. It will be about the games/services/add-ons (vr, etc).
