I have always wondered about this when reading Superman comics. Why does Superman have muscles? There really isn't any practical way for him to exercise to get that body(unlike Batman), there aren't many battle with villains that requires him to use full strength(Dark Sied, Doomsday, and Zod for example). The same thing with Wonder Woman too.

I'm no comic book geek, but Superman can look pretty much any way they want him too. He's not human.

I dunno if Wonder Woman is human. But remember her Mom is a goddess, so that's gotta count for something.

Those two promo pictures look really bad.

Might as well wheel out Richard Pryor and stick him in there, too.

IGN DVD Smallville Season 1 Review said:
Some people may not see it, but Warner has found the perfect Supes in Tom Welling. Go ahead and laugh, but even in this first season there are moments where you see how he carries himself. It's hard to picture anyone else taking over the reins from Christopher Reeve in a future Superman flick.

While that may never happen, as fate seems to be cruel to Superman fans waiting for a new movie (we'll probably get Ashton Kutcher or some other horribly miscast person), one can only hope that the powers that be at Warner will see that they have the right Superman right under their noses. Acclaimed artist Alex Ross was so impressed with Welling that he did even some sketches of him in the Superman suit.

Heh, just read that and figured I should post it. ):

Wait...so he doesn't even wear the Superman suit in Smallville?

Considering the show is about Clark Kent before he became Superman, that would be kind of hard. :P

This movie will be great fuck the haters. so a couple of badly made photos make a movie? news to me. Bryan Singer will prove haters wrong like Nolan did with BB.

What? It's from an IGN review, it's a real quote..

on the idea that Welling is the perfect Supes. The dude can barely carry a TV show. He'd tank if it weren't for Lex and the hotness of Kreuk. @_@

Kreuk is the worst person on that show, easily. :P

He couldn't carry the TV show, but he's not supposed to. He plays a great young Superman though.

bleh, people will love to hate me for saying this, but they really need to lose that goofy superman costume. It looks great in the comics and cartoons, but it just doesn't fit with live-action. I just can't "buy" it.

Manabyte:

Familyman is one of my favourite movies... I thought it was great.

In other news, Christopher Reeves was one helluva handsome guy, back in the day. Hubba.

I'm not too worried about these pics...some of the early promo pics for Batman Begins got laughed at pretty hard as well, yet that movie owned all the fool haters. That being said, I can't say I've been huge on the guys playing Supes and Lois, or Supes costume. But I can live with them if everything else comes together.

I'm no hater. I hope the movie is good. I just don't think that guy looks like Super-Man is all. Maybe things will change.

There's 2 more shots in the Newsweek issue including one of Lex Luthor and the other of Richard White (James Marsden), Clark and Lois in the Daily Planet:

From what I've seen, I'm really digging the color palette and the clothing styles being used. Hopefully this ends up kicking ass.

oh wow, i hadnt seen Spacey all made up as Lex before, its kinda freaky how much he resembles Gene Hackman

for the most part, the only thing Routh needs to do is bulk up. That's the only thing bugging me about his Superman. He looks like Christopher Reeve minus the black hair.

Getting tired of the superhero movies.

Judging by these pics, the Pirates of the Caribbean sequel has nothing to worry about...

Superman - "Thanks for keeping me warm. Breeze comes through and it feels like it goes right through the costume. If only I had a coating of muscle.. And a.. and a neck... And a jaw.. And a bigger 'S'.. A better sewn suit.. the color red."
Lois Lane - "Is that your rib?"
Superman - "Yeah."

Seriously...

wtf?

The costume is perfect. Jeez, people love to nitpick.

And wtf, he could maybe bulk up a LITTLE bit more, but who cares? He shouldn't look disgustingly inhuman. What's important is that is plays the part well first.

He doesnt look the part. For example, this guy could be the greatest actor in the world.

I would never buy him as superman though. Whoever cast that dude should be fired.

That is the first thing that came to mind when I saw that pic of Lois, Clark, and some guy in their suits and ties.

The guy playing Superman looks just like Jason Schwartzman when he has glasses on.

I had no idea Kevin Spacey was in this thing, so perhaps I'll watch this in the end. Odd that him and Kate Bosworth are back together in a film so soon. I like elements of what I'm seeing so far (I actually like the maroon flavor of the cape and boots), but I'm not really impressed by things thus far; I'm still dying for someone to do a more Alex Ross styled Superman, with the level of character Nolan gave us in Batman Begins. Still, I'll bite my tongue until I see something more solid as it's still far too early.

The guy looks the part for film,I dont know what some of you are expecting. There will never be another Christoper Reeves. They wanted an unknown that was similar in looks and build of Reeves and they got that with Routh.Routh has the voice too, lets just hope his acting is up to chops, thats the greatest unknown. As for his size, Routh is actually larger than Reeves was when he filmed Superman 1 and 2.The suit might be making it look like hes smaller, but his arms and legs are larger than Reeves,I also think hes an inch taller than Reeves was.

Honestly I dont get what the big deal is,I can understand people who have issues with the suit look and color of the red, which looks better on film, but the people expecting a Super body builder type that looks like Superman from the comics need to keep wishing for that cause it aint happening anytime soon on film.

I cant think of one actor today that looks the part of Superman,I think it was wise to go with an unknown again and to keep his look similar to Reeves, since this movie is sorta a sequel to Donners movies.

I have faith in Bryan Singer to make a good flick. Comic book movies almost always look goofy in stills. Also, how awkward must it be to have to wear the Superman get-up? I mean, what do you do if you pop a surprise boner? NOTHING, that's what.

I don't think anyone is expecting him to be a bodybuilder, I just think he should a little stocky, or have some definition. I have no problem with the maroon in the costume, as I think if they went with the bright red like in the comic it would have looked dumb. Its just in certain shots when you see him in costume, he tends to look a bit scrawny.
