Routh looks more emo WB than Welling ever will. Welling has a neck and a jawline worthy of supes.

He may look more the part, but would you honestly want to see him act it?

That's the kind of image of Superman I have in my mind. Reeve was fine enough, but I always expected Superman to be a really buff guy. This new Superman looks like a pompous jackass.

That's fine for the comics, but a guy that looked like that in a live-action movie would just be ridiculous. That and I'm sure they'd have a hard time finding a guy with the necessary acting chops AND managed to look like a professional body builder.

WTF @ these promo pics. This is what they remind me of:

I don't think anyone is expecting him to be a bodybuilder, I just think he should a little stocky, or have some definition. I have no problem with the maroon in the costume, as I think if they went with the bright red like in the comic it would have looked dumb. Its just in certain shots when you see him in costume, he tends to look a bit scrawny.

It's got to be the suit,he's in no way scrawny.

People should be happy we have Routh looks wise,it could have been Nic Cage or Jim Caviezel *now thats scrawny*

As for Welling,Oli it was never going to happen,WB had no desire to end Smallville.

Dear Oli,

Hes not scrawny but hes not a naturally big guy like Reeves was and he doesnt look right in the suit. Maybe they can use cg to enhance his neck. Plus, something must be done about his face. He looks like a total douche. :)

Why not get Cloudwalking to play the part? She shares a face with Routh... but she has a bigger neck.

Do you have some sort of secret crush on her? DOES MRS. OLI KNOW?!1

He looks too young and inexperienced. When people return from long absences, they usually come bak with some kind of weird new or enhanced facial hair (like Moses).

...and don't decrease in age. Maybe he caused Earth to spin backwards again which, as we all know, effectively reverses time.

You asume Routh is a good actor because he was on Undressed and One Life to Live? :O :O :O

There, the producers should add these changes to him. The scar is from a krypto-daggar he encountered in his absence (he fell asleep on it by accident)

Give this guy a chance,Reeves was an unknown, won the role and owned it.

I'm not saying Routh will even come close to Reeve, but to hate on him before the movie is out or before an official trailer is out is pointless.

The eyepatch "S" shield is a nice touch.

Except Chris Reeve wasn't a naturally big guy. When he got the part for Superman he was skinnier than Routh was and didn't work out until production began in England where he trained with David Prowse. Reeve didn't meet his peak physical condition until Superman III.

The problem with the new suit is that unlike the Reeve's costume, it's made from a neoprene like material which is so form fitting that it contricts around the body and the unfortunately eliminates alot of muscle definition of the wearer.

This is what Routh looks like without the suit today:

= O

I'm as typical an unlucky heterosexual male as they come, but even I can admit Tom Wellington is a good looking guy. And he pulls off a believable Clark. I just don't think he belongs on the big screen.

Either way Singer is at some fault. Either for casting someone who's not exactly bulky, or for costume design and ok'ing a suit that allows no definition. But yeah, I'm sure the camera will show just enough when filmed and it will if nothing else, look decent. Just not thrilled about the look at all so far.

Exactly. He looked pefect as Superman in the Comic Con footage.

This real version of this shot:

=OMFG OMFG OMFG

Welling and the rest of the cast would have kicked ass...but alas...

Y'know even the guy in Dharma and Greg would have made a better Superman...

There is nothing more to be said.

A comic movie with good visuals is nothing new. I hope the movie is good, but it'll need more than flashy camera angles for pete's sake. I want SUPERMAN. I really hope he isn't all toned down either.

Its not about the visuals - its about them "getting" Superman. The entire description of the scene I posted a pic of proves to me that they "get" Superman. The epic larger than life pieces that will ensure that its not toned down in the least.

We shall see though.

That scene is how Superman decides where he's going to go help. He flies up into space and just listens to Earth and then zooms down. It's awesome in the finished version.

"Can I come?"

If they "got" superman then they would "get" a better actor and they would "get" that he's supposed to be older in this film and they would "get" that the new costume looks horrible.

Anyone have a bigger version of this picture?
It looks great.

I remember reading that, it sounds awesome. But really, it's only one moment. I'm not saying that the film is gonna blow, but so far they've done nothing but make a skeptic out of me.

Honestly Oli,you thought Batman Begins looked like crap from the trailers/pics and thought Bale was going to suck...give it a chance.

I was wrong about Bale as Wayne. I thought he was going to make a fine Batman, but it was his Wayne I was worried about.

And I'm going to give Superman a chance like I did Batman. It's just that Routh looks so awkward as Clark, so awkward as Superman, and the suit is worse than Batman's "Tumbler'.

Now anyone have a bigger pic of Reeves Supes by the Depository?

Me: *waiting in line for Superman Returns*

Car Driving By: "Hey! Brandon Routh plays Superman!"

Me: "NoOOooOOoooOOoOOoooOoo! You bitch! You bitch!!!

There's a bigger version of that pic with Reeves running, as Superman, on the following page:

I have no horrendous feeling towards this film, aside from my annoyance with X-Men getting screwed over because of it, mainly because I don't give a damn about Superman. I really feel this film is unnecessary, and is needlessly hindered by the fact that on one hand Singer wants it to be tied to the original films in design, but is all over the place with regards to its relation to the original films in the timeline.

Personally, my view is it's now 2005, if there had to be a new Superman film I wanted it to be different, I didn't want designs based off the old films. At least take a chance rather than leeching off of the original conceptual art. Yeah, the old scripts pretty much sucked (the old script for the Burton thing and whatever that whole drama was), but I have to say I wasn't really hating the conceptual art I saw for the thing. At least it was different and new rather than a complete retread.

I don't think Routh could ever look this cool, especially in that suit of his.

This suit is perfect as far as I'm concerned.

X3 was going to happen without Singer anyways. Fox was dicking him around and wouldn't give him a contract to direct it.
