Next Arc System Works (Guilty Gear, Dragonball Fighterz) Game Might Be A Switch 2 Exclusive

SIE are actually showing some of the strategic changes now, and that's all I needed to see. Zero chance a pre-Concord SIE would've been making moves like this though.

Concord bombing and those other GAAS getting cancelled needed to happen in order to lead to stuff like Marvel Tokon, seemingly. But better it happened when it did vs. later.
The game is coming out in 2026, though? Zero chance that this came from a post-Concord SIE, and if anything, it still reflects the ongoing development of the GAAS strategy, albeit done correctly.

Yes, it's nonsensical to say this game started after Concord's release.

Marvel Tokon releases next year, meaning it's almost complete and has been under development since several years ago.

Back in 2021 Jim Ryan publicly announced their GaaS push and acquired EVO. Pretty likely if they acquired EVO was because they were confident on going to get a huge success with a first party fighting game, which could only be explained by having this game signed knowing that the PS Studios x Marvel x ArcSys combo was going to be a big hit. And particularly at EVO since Marvel has a tradition of being popular there.

In one of the many leaked documents from the Insomniac leak, we saw Sony was tracking the performance of the GaaS titles on PS, and particularly as a separated, special GaaS group the fighting games. Now we know that this interest obviously was because they were working on one of them.

When announced their GaaS push Jim Ryan mentioned they wanted to approach different GaaS genres, sizes and audiences. And already in the previous generation fighting games have been a very important part of the GaaS market in console and specifically PS.

Last year when talking about their first party strategy, when Hermen explained they split their first party games in the tentpole, transformational and experimental groups, also mentioned that they wanted to expand their first party games to new audiences and player types by approaching new genres. And again, fighting is one of the important genres in PS.

Like the other 1st/2nd party PS Studios GaaS titles, will be released day one on PS5 and PS5.

So there is absolutely no change of strategy with Marvel Tokon. They continue with their successful collaboration with Marvel, they continue with their successful first party expansion to new genres, they continue with their successful expansion to GaaS and they continue with their successful expansion to PC. Zero strategy change.
