Next Battlefield first details (modern setting, 64 players, classes)

The big problem with 128 player maps was that they were all total shit. If they had intreasting maps made for 128 player then it would be fine, but the maps were all poor, big open spaces with a few buildings where everyone would congregate, no intricacies very basic buildings

-Back to basics
-64 player maps
-4 studios working on it
-Specialists are out
-"We have to have the core. The core Battlefield players know what they want"
-Entered full production earlier this year

we've all heard it before, unless i see battlefield 2 as a direct influence then I'm not getting my hopes up (and i enjoyed bf2042 quite a bit, always found the outrage to be really overblown around it)

Those things sound good but battlefield fans have been getting burned for almost 10 years and are understandably skeptical. That said Vince is in charge this time, and he had his hands on some of the best military themed fps games ever made.

Give me BF3/4. They fucking robbed me with the ultimate edition without a gun. I’m willing to give them one more chance not to fuck it up because BF is my favorite MP franchise.

I don't know if I'm part of the core Battlefield audience anymore.

I loved the PvPvE aspect of Titanfall 1 and Enlisted. The AI combatants gives you the same scale of classic Battlefield with less players. I'm hoping this new Battlefield goes that direction.

That reminds me. The Portal mode in 2042 sounded amazing, is this thing still going? Its the only reason I might consider trying out 2042.

Are there any good community made modes?

I'm not shocked this would be the most stacked BF in terms of development as, well we are in modern times, we need them massive teams for this IP, but I'm more surprised its entering full development this year, it sounds like they had more time to design or something, was I would have expected them to be working on it longer prior to this.

Sticking to core BF concept is what is needed, so I'm happy to hear this.

Its also interesting the are not doing a time period, but making it a modern time frame, usually at the start of a gen, they'll do modern and then do some period like BF4 to BF1 or BF2 and then 2142 etc

"I mean, if you look back to the peak or the pinnacle of Battlefield, it's that Battlefield 3... Battlefield 4 era where everything was modern. And I think we have to get back to the core of what Battlefield is and do that amazingly well, and then we'll see where it goes from there. But I think for me, it's that peak of Battlefield-ness is in that Battlefield 3 and 4 days. So I think it's nostalgic for players, for me, for the teams even. Those are kind of the heyday...although I would say 1942 also."

So it seems this next one will be BF4/BF3 esk

BF was all I played during BF:BC2, BF3 and BF4.
These days, it's too slow for me. Too much running to the action, not enough action.

I can't see how they fix that for me, since it's not really a problem for anyone else.

Will definitely try it out, if anything, these games look damn good usually and I love that.

It's insane to me that a higher player count per map is now something that is now found in the CoD games (with the Modern Warfare's bigger maps and Warzone obviously) yet Battlefield still struggles with anything above 64.

128-player mode was a good idea but had poor execution. They're making a mistake by abandoning this.
I actually disagree

If doing this caused all of those issues and they needed to scale a lot back just to make 128, then maybe they are correct to return to 64. I liked it as a attempt at something different, but hey, if it didn't work out, why return to something that hurt the IP in terms of how it was done?

I need you to consider, a lot of the issues with the game may have stemmed from this feature.

I hope so, Portal is one of the best ideas in 2042, so I expect them to have it again in this title

Entered full production earlier this year? This shit ain’t coming out until 2027.
Probably not, but I don't even know what "full production" means to them, for all we know this is a fall 2025 game or something, some times teams say this and they are talking about like the final push or something

2042 had such bland open maps imo

The entire game had a sterile feel to it that I can't explain. The aesthetics or design or something.

Good point, yea full production could mean anything really.

This modern setting will be the death of them.
Not saying it garantees that will be bad, but it aways revolves around cheesy and gen z cringe stuff instead of tech stuff. They should really take that "back to basics" seriously and go real back to what made BF a differential in contrast to CD.
And for gods sake, take a step back from any DEI or woke putrit stuff.

They've been saying the same shit about battlefield every release after 4.
? What? lol No they haven't bud.

They've been telling you BF will return to classes and have 64 players and will be in modern times? They've been saying this for "every release after 4"? Lol

The fuck?

Um.....sure bud...what ever you say.

Until they can actually do something about cheaters, I have no interest. It was so noticeable on the last several titles.

The modern setting he's referring to is not "modern audience" garbage. Zampella says in the interview they're taking it back to the days of BF3 and BF4. That's what he means by "modern". Getting rid of that specialist system. Taking it back to 64-player maps. You're not getting 300-pound blue hairs, BLM activists, and rave sticks. They already took a beating over BF5 when they tried to put disabled women in the game, told people "tough shit, don't buy it", and then had to walk that shit back real quick. In fact, that entry was the beginning of Battlefield's fall with its fans. Zampella is saying, "I hear you. You want BF the way it used to be". Now we wait and see if he delivers.

True, but people this triggered seem to short circuit or something when reading anything that states "modern" and then proceed to start spewing some copy and paste about conspiracies and agendas lol

I don't even think they read the fucking article to know what he is referring to.

Zampella knows his shit, but I actually thought Battlefield 1 was probably their best most recent title. Turning things down from the 11/10 that four cranked everything up to worked magically, and I poured hundreds of hours into it.

I'm sure EA will find another way to fuck it up. #EveryonesBattlefield

hope they have an extraction mode. tarcov style
Just play tarkov, it’s better than any extraction mode battlefield could pull off.

They just need to focus on good class based large scale combined arms gameplay. No distractions, get the basics and map design back on track.

My concern is how they will monetize this. Stupid skull gas mask skins and gaudy camos seem like an inevitability. Hopefully I’m wrong.

Battlefield is cooked if their strategy is going back to the basics. The basics don't work.
The core basic mechanics of Battlefield is why people loved it in the first place. 3 or 4 players in squads all having diffferent perks and classes that you can benefit from is the core mechanic that is missing. It promotes team work and communication better than any game I ever played, and certainly differentiates itself enough to stand out beside COD. The moment to moment gameplay on big maps, with vehicular combat is amazing when it all comes together.

They moved away from it for a reason. If you don't identify the reason and correct it, you're doomed to repeat your mistakes. We'll see how it goes.

Saying the right things....minus having 4 studios working on the game. Didn't 343 do the same thing with the Master Chief collection?

Does it have a traditional score board?
Now now now, don't get too crazy. That won't be until 7 months after launch.

I want to believe but I have no faith. Id be more then happy to be proven wrong.

I’m not giving them the benefit of the doubt ever again and I don’t care who they bring in for name recognition. If they ever release one that has a large number of glowing user scores after a few weeks on the market I’ll take a look and maybe pick it up. No trust, verify only policy on this one.
