Do you think that Microsoft and Sony have the same relationship with AMD?

I recall an article a long time ago saying sony helped built some off the new features in rdna 2.
Would Microsoft be allowed to use those features or would that be exclusive to just sony.

Fs i don't know why but every time i want to write rdna2 i end up writing R2d2, screw you star wars.
AMD has a flexible roadmap that adjusts to costumer needs. Microsoft and Sony each have specific needs. R&D for each console benefitted both parties. In fact, AMD benefits the most from their relationship with both MS and Sony.

Not really. I mean, unless people aren't allowed to have a slip of the tongue. I didn't even catch the gaf he made. I saw it quoted and had to look a few times to see what people were laughing about.

When I say terrible branding I mean in regards to confusing the masses who don't follow forums and such like us here.

Please, not Tidux.

Update: Sony has identified individuals responsible for The Last of Us Part 2 leaks, saying they were not affiliated with either Sony or Naughty Dog

Because it was a trick to reach 4k output.
PS5 has enough power for that but I believe they will have something similar to DSLL with deep AI that is an evolution over checkboard.
Interesting. I think native 4K is a waste of resources. I have a 65" 4K TV and I can't tell the difference between native and checkerboard. Maybe PS5 is enough to make a PS4 title in 4K but not to make a PS5 one, so to speak.

This isn't a new thing, the PS4 brought forward 8 ACEs from the future GCN pipeline, the 360 was a whole year ahead on unified shaders. Why is it unbelievable that console GPUs based on RDNA 2 would be bringing forward features they wanted from AMDs pipeline?

It had 8 ACEs which is the setup Hawaii went with and that launched about the same time as PS4. RDNA 3 is well over 1 year away so totally different scenario.

Question for the more tech savvy guys. Why hasn't Sony continued to support hardware accelerated checker boarding in the PS5?

No one ever said they are dropping it as far as I know. I even think in next generation it will be even more common, with even better results, I believe Sony will be able to come close with the tech to Nvidia's DLSS2, where the end result will be razor sharp image, as oppose to current, a bit blurry one.

Are we saying that suddenly this guy is legit? Makes no sense to me.

Here's the general rule - anything praising PS5 is 100% legit, everything that's even just questioning PS5 features comes straight from Discord to spread FUD.

I mean does any of this come as a surprise to any of you.
Both Microsoft and Sony have done this shit before. Sony themselves put Vega features in the PS4 Pro a full year before Vega made a public launch.

That's exactly what both companies are doing with the upcoming consoles - both next gen systems will use not just single features but an entire GPU architecture that is yet to be released, a.k.a. RDNA2. So the rumor about RDNA3 is laughable at the very least.

RDNA2 will be launched around the same time as consoles, with RDNA 3 following 12-18 months after that. Having RDNA2 features is a given. Basically a certainty.
But having a few select RDNA 3 features is most definitely not completely off the table.

As I said, the PS4 Pro introduced Rapid Packed Math (or double-rate FP16 compute) a feature designed for Vega, a whole year before Vega was released. Its not unreasonable.

Ah yes, you added something great that I had neglected as well. Yeah, I agree that things like Quiet in MGS5 and others give some the criticism that the females are over-sexualized and I'll even agree that sometimes they are. But those same people ignore that almost all of the MALE characters are unrealistic and sexualized as well. How many of us are impossibly tall and muscular space-marines! Well, ok, I pretty much am that..but not most people! :) Lol. Just kidding. But seriously, games are just entertainment. I agree that Aloy was a good character period. I didn't mind "playing as a girl" in that game. Was fine. Same with The Last of Us. I enjoyed the times you played as Ellie and won't have a problem with that in the new game either. I think games are doing a pretty decent job right now, all things considered, with representing diverse people's. I think a good bit of that is the result of developer teams from multiple countries developing games, it's not all produced in western Europe and the US, for example, or not all produced in Asia like was the case very early on in gaming. People typically write, paint and draw people who look like themselves. That's all good....it's a damn big planet! ;) You know, I always wished they would have made a really good RPG or adventure game out of the Dune series with all the Arabic influence in that universe mixed in with all the others, or something based off of the TV series FireFly with a bunch of Asian flavor. I think we're going to see more of that as gaming continues to develop and expand more across the world.

Well, the next you may believe it or take it as a fairy tale, but I suggested to Naughty Dog years back (I think right after I finished Uncharted 2 in 2009) to make Uncharted in Ubar in a very long post, but forgot to put my email so they can reach me (not like I want money or something, lol, but maybe recognition at least). Told them about Ubar, Iram of the Pillars which is found exactly were I live, the ancient Arabs (People of Aad) around 2200+ B.C., which our bloodline (Qahtanites) are still going back to People of Aad through Qahtan, one of 4 sons of prophet Hud (Hood), PBUH. It was known as a big city made of gold and silver and raised with pillars as a challenge to prophet Hud (PBUH) as he has given them some of the highlights of the heaven and they tried to mimic it instead of believing in God. As a result, after they finished it it's been destroyed by wind and sand, with some still believing it's buried somewhere in the Empty Quarter desert. Also known as "Atlantis of the Sands".

Anyway, I was shocked that the next game was taken place in Ubar, or around it (Uncharted 3). Problem is, when they tried to film/record in Oman the authorities didn't like the story as they antagonized Britain and the Queen, and we share a deep relationship with UK (at this point I think as Omanis we don't need passports to visit the UK).

I was happy as well to see Journey taking place around it, even without referreing to it directly, but stories tell, they were huge and meters high compared to others, known as the extinct giants or extinct Arabs (Imlaq: means giant):

Oh yeah? You think Sony is going to abandon a 110 million user base huh?

I very seriously doubt this will happen.

That would be an enormously risky gamble that could completely screw them.

We are more likely to see the base game running acceptable on base ps4, awesome on ps4 pro, and all sorts of enhanced on ps5.

Hzd3 and gow3 sure, but not this early into next gen.

Yes, they're not abandoning them. They're setting up for people to move to the next-gen. That's the job of first parties, we see that every gen.

And more importantly they will be true next-gen games that won't be possible on PS4 no matter how low-res / low FPS you make it due to taking advantage of the entire architecture which reworks the entire framework of how games operate.

Since when? This is the first time consoles are not outdated at launch, but even actually ahead of the curve. Even when the X1X first rumors emerged Ryzen was already out on the market, with Zen+ coming out soon, so many people including myself believed X1X will be indeed equiped with Ryzen, but as Spencer later said Ryzen showed up too late into X1X development. So upcoming consoles equiped with hardware that's not even out there is anything but a "given" or "certainty", that's a precedent.

PS5 having features that AMD will introduce in RDNA2.5 or 3 doesn't mean Xbox is excluded.

I think Cerny already talked about that previously. Sometimes they (MS and Sony) come up with ideas that they implement in their consoles that AMD will pickup and later use themselves.

GPU cache scrubbers is probably one of them.

I don't see how that could happen, they made more money with the new guard as far as I know (Uncharted 3, TLoU, Uncharted 4... all sold extremely well)

True, but since they have at least two teams now .. one could easily work on platformers while the other keeps on working on uncharted and other new IP?

Maybe instead of acquiring a new studio, expand the ones you already have?

This may be a little bit off topic but I have several questions.

1) is the AMD Radeon-Navi-RDNA GPU architecture also ARM based as well?

2) Does Radeon-Navi-RDNA GPU also compete with Adreno ARM GPU and NVIDIA ARM based GPUs?

3) Can AMD make their own ARM based Zen CPU and RDNA GPU's to compete with QUALCOMM's snapdragon series?

4) Can you play PC games on ARM based CPU/GPU with Always Connected Windows Laptops such as the Microsoft Surface X? If not, does the UWP-Direct x 12 Ultimate and recompiling tools for ARM based CPU/GPU make it possible for PC games to adapt and scale to ARM based Windows computers?

seems that ARM is catching up to a certain extent

Devs have been working with PC hardware that was more powerful than this-gen consoles since before they were even released. And while not fully optimized for them, they have had features / settings /etc for years now not available on current gen consoles.

Not every generations cross-gen games are going to have the same problems.

Ummm.. the APU (not APUs) is the CPU + GPU... so.. what?

Man twitter fanboys are ridiculous.

IGN is really using Chris "I don't have a PS5 Dev-Kit" Grannell as an actual reference when talking about the PS5. Unreal.

How many times are we going to ignore the fact that he has friends in the industry that do have dev kits? You don't like what he says. Fine, you don't have too. Maybe he's full of crap. But quit using this false narrative that since he has no devkit he can't possibly have any information on the ps5.

That's a cool story! I loved that location as well. There are so many cool locations just here on planet Earth even. We don't have to have everything set in space for it to be amazing, that's for sure. The desert Atlantis is a super cool myth as well. Love that stuff. You know, Hawaiian mythology has some interesting common links with a lot of other mythologies, including those of China, India, the Middle East and even some direct Egyptian and Greek ties. Makes you wonder...

Yup, it was a fresh breath for a new ancient times. What I love about Ubisoft that they push the boundaries more, like with their interesting spin-off Far Cry Primal and the Assassin's Creed series. They've been working closely with historians, and would love other devs to use more historians to bring something new and interesting to the table. It was strange though that I don't remember a proper Egyptian game other than Assassin's Creed Origins.

Ubisoft might have too many half-baked games, but I love how innovative they are. I hope they work more into meeting their potential like in Watch Dogs Legions.

Totally agree. You know, I can't think of any other game set in Egypt or otherwise the Middle East. Highly under-utilized locations, IMHO. Lot's of cool stories and myths to explore. I always thought it would be cool to have a game loosely based on building the pyramids and the gods like Osiris and Set being characters. Anyway, i think it would be cool. Hoping we really start seeing expansion of stories and locations as the video game industry seems about in it's prime now.

Edit: Seriously only game that comes to mind with an Egyptian setting is the old "Raiders of the Lost Ark" game but that was even before my time! I don't think that counts.

I don't understand this. He talks about ps5 gpu having RDNA 3 features and then he jumps to talking about cpu features. How would RDNA 3 have anything to do with the cpu? Maybe they are just 2 unrelated things he put in one tweet.

But why should they be unrelated? Both things are needed. Both are different in those consoles and both might have different features.
He knows GPU has some customizations but not which and he knows CPU has customization and even knows some of them.

I clicked on the video, its like Timdog and some brainless idiots got together - its embarrassing.

Have some people got no self esteem ?
