I was thinking the same, why does it even matter if it's fake or not, if it's that big or not... PS5 fan will still buy it. So I don't really understand the "omg it's soooo big" reactions, what if it is? Won't you buy it anymore?
Xbox fans need any kind of ammo for they FUD narrative, nothing new here.

that is something xbox fans dhouldnt be bragging about... it should be something sony fans should be complaining about! you are literally getting fked up the ass and smiling about it

maybe they will have another solution for their exclusives but if they release remasters of something like TLOU2 instead of a free upgrade... lol
PS fans don't complain about it because they are already used to it since PS3/VITA, it's called Crossbuy on Sony's side. It's just Xbox fans who think MS came with this 'new pro-consumer' idea, and one more time, it's up to devs regarding third party games.

I can fix that for you!

PS5 is definitely growing on us!!

crossbuy is not the same thing fyi

if TLOU1 didnt get a full priced remaster then it would be same thing

The day I see Spencer doing a hardware deep dive we can talk seriously.
Exactly, Phil is a Marketing guy (mean no disrespect for it, just stating what it is). Cerny is a gave dev and actual system architech for Sony since the Vita. I mean his cv speaks for himself, and he's definitely not a suit. Would be like calling John Carmack a suit just because he was a known representative of ID Software. They are both "Tech" guys, not Marketing people like Phil.

Thanks for sharing, but wasn't there a more extended gameplay video out there or am I dreaming it? I clearly remember the whole move between rifts in the same level by pulling them to the character.
Yeah, there is a gameplay demo out there showing him moving instantly to yellow portals within the same area.

The Cherno was just looking at the announcement trailer, the gameplay demo doesn't seem to be available anywhere in 4K.

Are you really using an example where crossbuy is not used to prove your point? Ok, then let's talk about all PS3/PS4/PSVITA cases where it IS used, just go to the crossbuy section in PS Store and see for yourself.

Crossbuy means you can make a single purchase and are entitled to download(or get physical discs, the policy mentions that) the proper version of the game for any of those platforms. Looks familiar?

Are you saying that you know more than the electrical engineers who designed the console and its components?

I'm genuinely curious to know about the XSX's heat and power usage. If it really is 12TF sustained ... well, we're looking at a lot of power and heat, which means a lot of cooling. Could be loud.

BTW, how loud is your average gaming PC these days? Are those things quiet or are they like PS4 Pros rocking cow bells?

@ 2nd part, they are fairly quiet, only some laptops can sound like jet engines when gaming and still overheat. Basically the smaller the form factor and higher the performance, the louder things get.

I'm one of those who was a little miffed that Sony came in less than Xbox in the total TF count.

Now that I've read about how much the SSD matters and had educated folks talk about why TF cannot be an end-all factor, I'm much more excited.

At the end of the day, to go from a 1.84TF Jaguar-based system to what this thing can do will be mind boggling.

I mean, *shit*. Regardless of opinion on the game, the visuals ND cranked out for TLOU2 is ludicrous on the old system and I can't imagine what they'll do on PS5.

Same as sony fans for calling xsx a fridge.

Genuinely curious to know about the ps5 heat and power usage as well. if it really is a 10,3TF sustained... (as staited by people in here with very very rare drops) well, we're looking at a lot of power and heat (2.23Ghz), which means a lot of cooling. Could be loud.

WTF? :messenger_fire:

WAT

No freaking way? But that's GPU decode... that's not the same thing right?
Many caveats to this, atm. Wait till it's perfected before we start losing our minds over this.
I think he means you can go this high but it takes the whole GPU power. They're benchmarking so it makes sense. Imagine you make the screen flash for a second (for example your character teleports) and in that second you fill up the whole memory with new assets. First parties will find ways, they always do.

This is GPU decode speed of BC7Prep textures. Not full IO speed from SSD to GPU.
It's also made irrelevant by Oodle Texture's BC7 RDO encoding, which can be done at design time and requires no CPU/GPU decryption.

He stated that BC7Prep is the oldest part of Oodle Texture and was a fall back in case their RDO solution wasn't effective.

I doubt anyone will use BCPrep outside of very niche use cases.

The day I see Spencer doing a hardware deep dive we can talk seriously.

Spencer has been a manager in a few positions within Microsoft, being promoted and moved around internally. I wouldn't be surprised if one day he'll move or be moved into a different department again and be just as excited about his new role, while being proud of what he achieved in the last one etc.
Cerny will be games, game engines and game hardware until he dies. He's been at it since he was a child.

The XSX looks like an air purifier to me, way more than a fridge. Not joking, I have an air purifier in my room right now that looks a lot like the XSX. The only difference is a round top instead of flat. Can't stop picturing it when I see photos of the XSX :)

I don't think it been proven either way?
Pay a close look at the dimensions, check the official pictures (look for the curves), details and his hands.

Good, it means no heat problems.

Ah I assumed "that delay message" pointed to the Tweet that was posted a few replies above.

I'm betting it will just be a resolution/frame-rate bump as that would be a simple zero effort thing to implement right away and would be easy to test.
If it's an identical game to PS4 then it suggests maybe they're using dynamic resolution scaling in which case PS5 would run a PS4 game using that pinned at maximum with little no no dropping in resolution.

Yeah I mis-remembered where I heard it, thought it was the delay tweet but actually it was the euro gamer article covering the investor call that came around the same time as the delay announcement.

Yeah that's my guess too - either an FPS multiple or a resolution bump "for free" as part of building with the PS5 SDK.

But that bodes well for older games if they build without too many problems. I'd happily take an FPS bump in Bloodborne.

I'm also hoping it means paid remasters will have to be beefier to justify selling them - not just "simple" (ok they're not necessarily simple) FPS and res bumps but game rebalancing, enemy placement, detailed geometry and texture replacements and so on.

I'm just glad both consoles are moving away from the inoffensive little VCR form-factor and are pointing the industry towards designs that will allow much more powerful and quieter systems from now on.
But I've liked the XSX design since day one, despite clearly being more into PS5 at the moment.
If Microsoft's lessons learned and subsequent reinvestment in first-party studios pays off, I'll proudly have an XSX sitting alongside my PS5 a couple of years down the road.
I love the contrast between the two designs. Both need volume for the thermals. One is entirely function over form and super clean, the other has artistic flair and in the Digital Edition looks very elegant to me.

I am unsure about BC7prep, its an extra compression yes just for BC7 compressed blocks of texels, the question is where it is unpacked not by what.

Bc7 is normally used direct at the GPU cache.

IF BCprep is unpacked while in memory by GPU, cant see the benefit over RDO + kraken on BC1-7 as your using GPU resource for a bit of IO bandidth gain.

IF BCprep is unpacked in GPU cache to BC7 then used directly, that would imply a 5-15 % saving on memory bandwidth.

I dont know which it is yet.

Wrong year and video:

Ohhh two vides but I don't think it him holding the PS5.

The video guy is that one.
Yasuhiro Ootori.

Yes and another that is a marketing manager I think for 505 games also said they had "reasons" why they believed it was genuine.

Why they both are being vague and coy as to why they believe it genuine I don't know. A little annoying TBH.
Probably developers received that pic on the discord... it is an internal Sony pic... not public.

That is what I can guess.

Or better that pic was shared between Sony and developers to probably announce the first PS5 being made... just to share their reaching the goal.

Somebody took it and post randomly on discord.

PS. Two developers already said the pic is real, there is no evidence of photoshop and the pic doesn't exists in the internet to be manipulated.

Right and that would make sense. Pity they just don't say that! Instead people are asking genuine questions and get a grumpy response of just believe me it is real.

Just a pet peeve of mine.

I assume the pic is of the first consumer PS5 off the production line or other such milestone.

It's a popular misconception that game settings on PC are some kind of industry standard. They're not. Each studio sets them to their liking, something like difficulty levels in games. The name for "all supported features and highest settings" can be Ultra, High, OMG or whatever they choose. It's only common to call it Ultra. Also no, you won't get any geometry increase/reduction with that. It's become possible only right now and the first use we've seen is Nanite from Epic in UE5 (still not shown on PC, mind you).

Thank you for clarification Ultra Mode for me. I have saw years ago a explanation in PC Settings based in "Poly Count", Ultra has 1.2million (which is not something spetacular today), high 800 thousand and so forth
. I still have some doubts how a ultra could work, but I think its is unlikely to UE5 in PC (today of course)increase graphics, more because need something so fast to use 8K Assets, but I'm not sure about Physics and like you said Ultra implies in highest settings of "everything", so Physics can be a improvement.

I am disagree for a simple reason a PC always will involve , so each couple of years new products are released with more features and more power.

-NVIDIA will found a way to solve for the "correct" price the problem with SSD in consoles
-Yes many pc gamer will migrate but this will not kill pc gaming
-Ultra mode will be only accessible for super high end pc this first years, but when the consoles have 5/6 years in the market the PC will have
available DDR5, GDDR7/HBMN3, SSD for PCIe 5. Basically the competition between AMD, Intel, NVIDIA will increase the performance drastically in
the next years. In that moment PC master race will be the again insufferable we know that.
-The will return to PC if the medium segment are above the console in a noticeable way like gtx 1060 vs PS4/Xbox one.

Right now I only see two problems in the future for the console the 16GB memory will become a problem in some years especially when you already have a
bandwidth far of be impressive and your RT is good maybe now but in 4 years well.

I love the technology involve so much as the medium of gaming involve and I don't want any stop at least while I am alive but if this year continue in this way
all we are going to die this december. :goog_eek:
Yeah, I think its better to wait and see how everything will be, but I can agree with you once a time, PC solved bottlenecks problem, they will reach the highest level like other generations. And I want to know what Nvidia will do about that too.
I think it's not a problem to Consoles the number of VRAM, because they can switch data so fast, so I think its not a higher problem (but can be so we need to wait and see too, I think).
