I feel like posting an opinion like this is just asking to get attacked by certain people but I feel like saying it anyways when people tell me game pass it's going to mean that Microsoft games are going to be more mediocre all I can think is that they've been mediocre for a whole generation gears 4 and 5 Halo 4 and 5 State of decay 2 these are all mediocre games. I mean hopefully I'm allowed to have that opinion without being accused of being like a Sony pony or some crap.

But who would subscribe for long terms when people don't want most of their games. For example, for me i only interested in avowed and fable. So, i will wait for these 2 games to release, then i will subscribe for only one month, it will only cost me for 15$ for 2 AAA titles. How are they gonna sustain? How 2 studios get the cut from 15$?

Yup. When I subscribe, I play a couple of games and then when I feel like I won't have time for a while, I unsubscribe. There won't be enough sustainability from me at least because I have another Console. Maybe for others there would be that level of sustainability. I'm sure this level of revenue fluctuates more so this way.

Also weird that there exists different assists to help new players get the hang of things when there's no game play. Seems like a waste of time to develop features for a game where you do nothing.

Well, no gameplay is a stretch, by it's definitely boring because it's a flight sim: you position your plane on the lane, you takeoff, you maneuver in the air, you do sightseeing, you land and that's it. For flight enthusiasts I'm sure it's great, but for gamers used to some action...

Depends on the number of subscribers Game Pass is able to get, just like Sony will close down studios if their games don't sell.

I really worry about avowed and fable. If they can't get enough subs, these games's budget will be surely cut. And we won't be able to enjoy high quality games. I think Microsoft should leave the gamepass for indie games and BC games and make Triple A title games to be stand alone.

The more recent one I can remember is Evolution (makers of Driveclub). Most of their employees went to Codemasters, IIRC. However, I think they shut that studio down alongside Guerrilla's second studio due to bad management inside the studios and not bad selling games.

Days Gone didn't sell as well as other 1st party games neither scored well on MC. Concrete Genie is so far from Sony's 1st party model. Yet, I see no signs of Bend and Pixelopus being on the guillotine.

Looks like MS gave Sea of Thieves the time it needed. However, it's an interesting business model. Interesting to see how it affects the games on the platform going forward. Will they focus more on GaaS (such as Sea of Thieves)?

Then play something else. This doesn't somehow discredit it simply because it's not for everyone. You can say that about a ton of games.

So, whenever a game goes onto GamePass, the amount of money that game loses in sales has to be offset. That offset is paid for via GamePass subscriptions, or from other Microsoft revenue streams, should GamePass not create enough profits.

Therefore any subscription service of this type must have enough subscribers to generate enough profits to plough back into production. If there aren't enough subscribers, fewer AAA games will be made. Simple.

Whereas with Sony, its the more standard single product revenue stream that funds future projects. If their games don't sell well, they will make less games.

Arguably, Sony's strategy is more sustainable, IMO. Especially if Microsoft aren't producing enough exclusives to persuade people over to their ecosystem. Subscription services like GamePass and Netflix rely on a growing subscriber base to ensure future content production. And a potential subscriber base is not infinite. There's only so many people out there. The trick is to get the balance right of enough subscribers to continue content production at a good enough level.

Ultimately though, that subscription service must have compelling fresh content to gain more subscribers. Not sure Microsoft are producing that at the moment. Time will tell.

I definitely will. I just think it's funny so many Xbox fans praising a game just for the graphics when the majority won't even play it because it's a niche title.
 
I wonder how MS determine a game's success if using Gamepass? Number of daily/monthly players? How do they guage a game has made a return on the investment? They must have something in place for 3rd-party titles so I guess use the same logic.

It's not lost on me that Sea of Thieves - a good candidate for Gamepass - is now on Steam. Unless I'm missing something, that move negates the need to have a Gamepass sub.

I think to keep gamepass afloat, they'll need a few AAA games on there, just not the whole damn list. I have a feeling MS will change their tune quickly on what games will be day and date on gamepass. Maybe some will be put on there later (ie 6 months) and push the $60 tag a bit to generate some sort of revenue.

Putting something like Fable on gamepass imo might either be suicide or a short jolt in subscriptions for a limited time.

Well, for those only interested in just new titles, and only a handful, as well as not caring about all the other titles the services already offers, the service might not be for them.

There are lots of people who want access to the new games and constant access to a massive library of previous titles they didn't play yet. Many people will continue to subscribe for that reason..... Let's look at it another way. Let's say I'm a Gamepass Ultimate Subscriber. I have all the services of Gold, and access to the library of titles on XBOX or PC vs. Playstation Plus. I have two free older games per month as long as I continue to subscribe (but lose access to them all if my account lapses until I sub again, and as long as I remember to "purchase" them in the PS Store). I pay a minimal fee but get no new games. To play the new games online I have to pay for the service.
In both cases, you can stop paying after the initial one month buy in if you wanted to. $10.00 for one month PS+ Sub + $60.00 (currently) for one game to play on the service vs. $14.99 for all of it with Gamepass. Assuming we're talking just one game, you can resume again if you want when another games comes out in both cases.

No matter what, in the long run, sustainable and continuous revenue streams are far more valuable to a company than one shot deals.

Sony have the movie rights, Disney cannot have a say how and when they want to make a movie. Game rights is different, at any moment Disney can go to other publisher.

Not that I recall. From what I understood, it was an amicable agreement between Sony and Marvel. I mean, those movies were making oceans of money. By licensing out the rights, Marvel(Disney) made the movie up to their standards and sony profited from tons and tons of money in their cut. Why would gaming have anything to do with that? The Spidey games have nothing directly to do with the MCU so far... though, there are some easter eggs referencing the movies in the latest game to be sure.

well I don't know if it was all done for theater or not but there was a time when it wasn't clear if Spider-Man would continue in the MCU and what eventually ended the dispute was Tom Holland making an emotional plea to both parties. my understanding was when they finally came down to the table both sides wanted certain things beyond the original agreement.

From what I understand everything destiny is going to be free on game pass all the seasonal content the new DLC everything. if you want my opinion of games as a service I will tell you if someone who has put an ungodly number of hours into destiny 2 that the thing that annoys me most about the game is the staggering of content which requires you to constantly check in so you don't miss things but if you stay too long you'll get bored.

Yes... but, Sony owned the rights. It was Disney that had to make a deal Sony was willing to agree to. Some of these deals have strange issues. Like.. The Incredible Hulk cannot appear in a standalone MCU movie. The previous Hulk Movies are Sony Pictures.
 
Are you guys can put me on the train as well I'm beyond caring what people think of me at this point I was a nintendrone all the way into my teenage years then I switch to Xbox because of Halo then games like killzone resistance in uncharted sweetened me on the idea of Sony then I went PC gaming and now I'm considering a PlayStation 5 because it'd be a lot cheaper than upgrading my computer plus I'm more interested in their exclusives. one of the only spots I never really landed on was Sega fan even though I was an early adopter of the Dreamcast I wasn't the biggest fan of the system though I did enjoy resident evil code Veronica and the berserk game which got me into that franchise. Also I'll say it right now the switch is the first console since the year 2000 I don't own but there is one in the living room it's my sister's fiance's I think they want to move out within a year's time though.

They had the chance to buy the game rights for all Marvel characters, but they decided no.

I don't know. The first 3 phases of the MCU turned out much better than anything Sony would have made. May have been bad for them, but it turned out ok for everyone else.

It's a per frame, so it's always locked at the target polygon budget, so it's not bothering the system. Of course Sony has its own version of that, they've been working pretty closely with Epic Games since 2017 at least. Decima is more than likely already has it in a mature state.

If you're drawing the full polygons of that UE5 demo on a top end 2080 Ti PC it'll barely hit 1.0fps at best, but mostly will crash like the old video here, timestamped:





And that's probably more powerful than 2080Ti, a $7,000 nvidia card.
