Oy mate I tell you it's about the fucking game pass zoomers who are nothing like the tasteful boomers with their appreciation for pong, none of that Fartnite Cowadoody bullshit with short attention spans by Phil Spencer and his Microsoft data collection by shilling Game Pass Gold Ultimate Plus for Xbox Series which as you have seen has ruined 343 with diversity and cross-gen!!!

Gen X is not even relevant. Maggots.
Umm they are mostly the parents to non-relevant real maggots, and buying their games for them... good luck making money on your own maggot self, off streaming in a sea of streamers in near future though

In the podcast Matt Hargett talked about fixed function vs fully programmable geometry engines and how the later can help to save memory amount and bandwidth. He talked about the importance of cache speed, latency and size for improving ram bandwidth efficiency. He also said that in RT intensive scenes culling can be problematic and programmability of the polygons would be very important, thus GE.. What can he say more without breaking NDA? :)
He can only tell so much without slipping up and saying about stuff he shouldn't talk about and breaking NDA's, but he's worked as a software engineer at sony which makes him way, way more knowledgeable than some random nobodies. He's been known to drop subtle hints about the system he helped brought to life though, which is why i would follow his words more closely as he had worked on the PS5 system as a software engineer before moving on. He's both intelligent and resourceful as far as i can tell from the conversations he's had with others. Paul didn't ask him anything about the Geometry Engine as he would've slipped up at some point and spill the beans and Paul respects that, so he didn't ask. But from what we've already read about the PS5, it's shaping up to be one incredibly well balanced system which also features subsystems to improve audio quality/clarity and I/O bottlenecks just to name a few. What else it has in store? We'll learn in due time.

Dang not another Resident Evil 5 game!!!!!!

Feels like ages since we've had some proper Sony PS5 news. August it taking too damn long.

True that, what I am thinking is that Sony are waitting for Gamescon and the COD anouncement to be over so they can have everybody's full attention. I mean I can't see any other logical explanation for this silence.

Right... which is why people buy the big games and still subscribe to gamepass to play everything else in between which leads to purchases of many other games they never would have experienced otherwise.

Same thinking could be applied to a physical movie buyer vs netflix subscriber argument... "Nah, i only buy the GOOD movies on 4k Ultra HD Bluray and don't waste my time with streaming services - Netflix is trash!"

Whereas the netflix subscribers enjoy tons of good content and still buy the good movies on 4k Ultra HD Bluray as well, they just don't spend all day gloating about it on the internet.

In fact, people are starting to worry about HBO GO, Netflix, Disney Plus, Apple TV... And basically the need to pay a subscription for all of them if they want to enjoy all the content... 😅

Games which innovate are insanely rare. I mean, what .. Portal Was the last truly innovative game I can think of. Though, Splatoon might be another. Looking for innovative titles might be better in a different thread. Looking for "next gen" titles works here though.

I guess something like Ghost Wire might wind up being something new. No idea.
There might be innovative features in games like the nemesis system or the asynchronus MP in Dark souls or Death Stranding.
But for innovation it is mostly found in indies or smaller scope games.Hell you can even mix genre to create something new like fps/rpg (borderlands) even fall guys partygame/battle royal.
But a really innovative new genre is almost impossible to create (not counting VR where I think there's still a lot to try).
But pushing the medium forward is not just about innovation it can be about streamllining what already existing, adding comfort to an already existing mechanic.Like Batman easing the grapplehook system so much that a lot of games have grapple now.It was not innovative but done better than before, thus pushing the medium forward.

Innovation for the sake of innovaion is pointless it's like saying I'll make a feminist movie first and foremost instead of making a good movie that has a feminist message(like a lot of current movie where women are like mary sue knowing and being capable of everything unlike The firsts Alien where Ripley is just a common woman who end up surviving hell and becoming an icon of badassery).

There is an answer to that problem. Every month or every 2 months see jumping from service.

Consume all natural resources and switch to the next one.

It literally works great.

Yeah that was kind of my point; vast majority of games (and all media really) are just following a formula and maybe trying 1 or 2 small new things if that. Sometimes those little things do catch on though and they become innovations to some extent.

I agree with you, I would encourage Sony to innovate and experiment even more this coming generation. The on-going theme with PS4 games, I would say is Achievement. It seems like every exclusive has been a hit in some way. Be it high metacritic scores, record-breaking sales, or praise from Japanese developers about a Japanese game made by Westerners.

Even Days Gone is a testament to how funding and freedom can turn a Vita developer into a team to look out for in Next-Gen. How many New IP were put out this gen from Sony? It's crazy, I just want to see more experimentation.

Games like Demolition All-Stars and Ghost of Tsushima Legends are what I like to see!

Yeah precisely this. Then you will either shuffle between them or sober up and realize if you are not that much of a consumer, buying each thing you actually watch might be better than paying for 1 or 2 of them a month while shuffling them around, changing the subscriptions etc.

Currently playing through Days Gone.

Honestly a hugely underrated game relative to other Sony games for me, including Ghosts of Tsushima (which briefly felt like it was going to be game of the generation for me early on, but then about halfway through fell fairly flat for me)

LiquidRex refers to this video, how good it can be so many things that if because not a Silent Hill, but well you will see

CrysisFreak you're absolutely right, hahaha sorry for putting it in Spanish

bugsnax game when its turns nightfall.

holy fuck can you imagine the poor kids transitioning into that scary scene from that fun cartoon stuff.

I so want that game now. :messenger_angry_horns:

I got an hour in before I said I'll wait to replay it some day

Umm let me guess you haven't even played them yourself but going on about others ideas or videos you have watched that can only be partial of the whole, and never same as playing yourself.

Would be odd for me if I buy games that are not exciting to me, but fyi I have played tlou 1 and didn't like it, played lots of ND games and this gen they are not pushing game medium forward, don't feel the need to buy tlou2, ghost of Tsushima I Might pickup for ps5, I still have a massive PS4 backlog (playing mostly on Xbox so it is challenging to find time to play on my PS4). Just to be clear, I am not saying that these games are bad, but statements that these 2 titles are pushing gaming medium forward with innovation is a stretch

Something like 99.99% wrong but I have a 00.01% margin of error.

He has been teasing for weeks now with nothing. Gamescom is coming so he is throwing everything in hope something sticks. The last "insider" who did that on GAF got banned. I wish Twitter has a policy for bullshit.

Dammit, you beat me to it.

I recognize that degenerate mind FFS. its that spiderman gif looking at each other. Oh no.

I have thought about passages from the bible but I have not been able to link the number to anything.

Anyone come up with something with that?

how games like the last of us 2 or ghost of Tsushima are pushing gaming medium further? What are the innovations that these titles introduced to the gaming industry?

GOT brought a great combat model to an open world game. That is not common - from RDR to W3 to Ass creed a major criticism of open world games is their poor combat. For me that made it ground breaking and future games should be judged by that standard - it's extremely difficult to construct an open world where the combat feels as good as a scripted game.

TLOU2 wasn't so obvious in terms of gameplay innovations - but it's fair to say it polished the gameplay from TLOU to a very high standard. The innovation in TLOU2 comes from the extreme levels of production values and the ability to push limited hardware well beyond the industry standard expectations. Any developer would aspire to produce the levels of quality in TLOU2 and that pushes other studios to compete.

care to join the discussion here?
Also game reveals and dev diaries albeit in French.

Last of Us 2 has by far the best character and facial animation in a video game. It will certainly be used as the benchmark for great game animation in the future. On top of that it pushes the medium narratively ahead. Whether the story itself worked for each person is subjective and not worth discussing here but in terms of telling a Hollywood or novel like approach to a blockbuster video game, the game certainly pushes the medium forward in that regard as well.

Ghost is a familiar open world game. Maybe it's greatest contribution is that major AAA games don't have to be set in America/the West or fictional settings that are reminiscent of those things to be successful. But other than that it's just another open world game, albeit a very very good one imo.

That looks like scenes from a TV series:

- Dark
- Le Revenant
- A third I can't remember the name of

80-minutes presentation featuring exclusive announcements, trailers for upcoming titles, new gameplay footage, and more from French creators or French speakers. Notable studios featured include Arkane Studios, Focus Home Interactive, The Game Bakers, Microids, Passtech Games, and more.

So at least there will be Hitman 3 update.

Just out of curiosity people, this is a tad bit of topic.

How many people here recognize the name Edvard munch and the famous painting the scream.

without posting imagines or anything just leave a thumbs up if you recognize who or what that painting is.

Thank you

I can't speak to TLoU 2 (a bit too serious a game for my tastes) but Ghost of Tsushima has done something I never experienced in any other open world game, and that is to completely reimagine how the world itself guides you without busy UI overlays. It let me fully appreciate the world without the gameyness of way points and other screen clutter constantly taking away from the beauty of the game. Points of interest are found following the wind, animals, smoke, etc. It all felt so natural and was a highlight of the generation for me.

Yeah, their waypoint system may be small but it is definitely an innovation in my eyes

Yep, at one point in the video Matt starts to go into hardware vs software based backwards compatibility but then quickly stopped himself and said " I don't want to go into that anymore, I'm going to stop that right there actually."
