Honest question. What is the deal with BC on the PS5?

I plan to get the PS5 DE "soon", so I can enjoy the great games I missed on the PS4 (and play next-gen games, of course). From what I gather, 99% of the PS4 games should work on the PS5, but are there any enhancements? If the games play as-is, without improved resolution or frame-rate, I might as well get a cheap PS4 and then wait a few years before buying the PS5. If I buy the games digitally for the PS4, I assume they will be available for me on the PS5 as well?
As far as i know, there will be a selected number of titles that will get a boost in resolution/fps. I think that was the top 100 games that cerny mentioned in the first ps5 video. I guess the most popular games should have some form of enhancements on launch, rest should probably get it over time.

yes all your ps4 physical and digital games will be playable PS5 Disc Edition. Your PS4 digital game purchases are playable on your PS5 Digital Edition. Your ps4 games that's running on spotty frame rates/uncapped frame rates/uncapped resolution/dynamic resolution will all sport higher frame rates and higher resolutions aka more stable high resolution and more stable higher frame rates when played on PS5's boost clock mode. Around 100 games out of entire PS4 catalog will support this boost clock enhancement. All other PS4 games will run on PS5 just as it performed on it's native PS4 or PS4 pro console.

You will, as a rule of thumb, get more stable framerate and/or dynamic resolution reaching 4K far more often than before.

Some PS4 games needed to be patched using the latest SDK that provides "enhancement hooks" to guarantee that the boost works correctly (similar to PS4Pro patches). The benefits would vary from game to game.

Don't assume much more than unlocked framerates being more stable, especially for older PS4 games.

You'll play the PS4Pro versions on PS5 and there will beat least smoother frame rate potential ...

Game boost
Enjoy faster and smoother frame rates in select PS4 and PS VR games.

Also with the PS+ Collection being included with PS+ I'd say a PS5 DE is probably the cheaper way to go still?

They must be out of their damn minds... Bought it on PS3, bought it on PS4, now they want me to buy it again on PS5? What the fuck do they think it is, Skyrim?

From my understanding games should benefits from boosted rez and framerates but it will probably different on a game to game basis.
As for HDR since every PS4 is compatible with it should already be in most games but I haven't checked yet.

But yeah sony need to talk more about this, we know there will be benefits from backward compatible games but what remains a mystery (maybe they'll post a list with benefits for every games on their blog if there's differences for each games)

Where did you get DE from? Just curious.

I see people starting to talk about TGS and it pulled my memory a bit.

What was that block of time that was allocated for Sony at some event within the past week or so (PAX?), and then got wiped-out? Did anything ever come of that?

If this GTAV PS5 remaster isn't going to be 60fps min and min 1440p resolution, this is going to be a colossal disappointment of a remaster!

As confirmation of features missing. machine learning, variable rate shading etc, these are things that will play a role as we gradually roll into next gen games.
Also about how the ps5 clocks work. Leadbetter asked Cerny in person if there is a low limit for the clocks, and cerny declined to answer. now what does that make you think?

Finally, I write about performance stuff ONLY when I read hilarious things about comparing xbox to ps5.
My posts are always reasonable and very well supported. AND POLITE.
Some people do understand, while some others don't.
I already know that I'll be using my ps5 for those first party games that I do care about, so the performance differences are not my main concern.
I have said many times that my personal interest is the behavior and the noise ps5 will make. my ps4s are a bad contrast to my xboxes in these matters.

my little fishy friend thats a loooong list of questions to ask :messenger_tears_of_joy:
I will answer the first for now.

If a ps3 remake at 80 euros is what next generation is about, then I say fuck next generation.
DS was good back at the day, but for today's standards not so hot.
I can understand the excitement and memories of people, but running in a corridor to hit one opponent is not what I expect from next gen to hype me.

You have to remember, I had told you many months before that this would make launch. I knew because I have a few friends at sony who are crazy about their memories of this game, so they had asked around. because of them also I know that memory-excitement feeling about DS.
Personally I am not into souls-type games, but no big deal. I can understand.
I am not buying the game though, to answer to that part too. I still have it on my ps3, which is working and connected, and never felt the desire to replay it.

I have to say though, that with how things came, its a pity that this will be the poster child for ps5's launch.
I am willing to bet that in a few months it will release to ps4 too.
And you very much know that if this was releasing day-date on ps4, hype about it probably would be lower.
This tells much about playstation fans "need" to brag "exclusives"

The rest of your questions I will address after I have some launch

It makes me think Sony has shown visually impressive games. Microsoft has not.

Where did you get DE from? Just curious.

Didn't get it yet - it's sold out here in Denmark as well. But I plan to get it when the initial craze has died down and the worst 1.0 bugs in the software has been fixed.

Thanks to all of you for the answers. I assume the 100 games mentioned by Cerny more or less covers all of the most important games - and that's enough for me!

The brainiacs at Sony haven't disclosed any details. Frustratingly so.

But we do know it has a boost mode, which based on PS4 pro should at a minimum provide further framerate stability & increase due to brute force.

As an example, God of War on PS4 is locked 30, on Pro you can unlock framerate which swings towards 60 but never consistent, probably ~50 average. Boost mode on PS5 should lock it at 60 out the door without patches.

With some luck, Sony gives us more than that. Would like to see increased resolution, improved filtering and framerate doubling of 30fps game - but that's a personal wish list.

I think the power gap will be shown as the generation progresses, but in Sony's favor. MS went for maximizing the current ideology of power and tacking on on an SSD and a few software tricks. Sony, Epic, and Nvidia seem to be on the same page with I/O and streaming assets driving the future.

So I can buy 50 USD PSN Wallet Credit from Amazon USA for 38 GBP and use it on my UK PSN account?

Probably yes, but try with a smaller number. I'll try it myself. I'm used to pay like $54.6 to third party shops or apps here for the $50 card, so that's good saving as I usually buy 2 each time or even 4 lol. They should raise the limiter to $200 to least.

Why am I a Sony Pony? At launch I'll be playing MM, Demon's Souls, and Ratchet and Clank. My XSX friends will be playing teraflops and Velocity architecture 😳

It's a console vs. game console thing with me...

You should take PS Plus with the new PS Plus collection too. It covers a lot of the "must haves" for about 5€/month, so it is a pretty good deal :messenger_grinning:. It is like this Gold thing on the XBox, so you get more games every month (currently 2 for the PS4, but probably some for the PS5 as well once it is launched)
It makes not much sense to buy an "in between" PS4 now, because the PS4 is still pretty expensive and you still suffer from the long loading times. The SSD alone would be a reason to upgrade for me.

I think i've found the difference between Demon's Souls High graphics vs High framerate modes
I think it's not. Gamma and atmospheric effects will be dynamic, depending on the tendency of the worlds. Just look at the world 4-1 in the first trailer. It's bright, there's sun. And then they show the Storm King with a downpour. In the gameplay trailer, the world 4-1 is already raining heavily in the same place where it was sunny in the first show. I think that the difference between the modes in the graphics part will not be much, it will all come down to reducing the resolution.

Tried to preorder in many places, but here they force you to pay full price to secure one in the shop. But they guarantee you 100% getting it in 19-Nov. Good way to avoid bots and empty multi preorders:

Got PS5 + Pulse 3D, my friend paid for me for now until 5 days when I get my salary, haha!

1 OMR = $2.6 USD

Waiting for salary? Am disappoint, envisioned you owning some oil fields and driving a gold plated Rolls.

I don't think so it need to be a UK labeled card to work on a UK account. But what I do to pay less create an US or canadian account, then use those cards to credits the account, then buy the game there, set it as your home ps4 for every account, then you can play the games on your UK account.

I have the opposite problem. They refused to take the full amount here. They said you can only pay 50% on the store and the rest when you come collect it.

Yup, that's not a problem, they actually asked the same (50%) in the shop (Geekay) I've preorder from with my friend, it's 1200km away from my city. The ones here ask for full price. Might secure another one as well here just in case 4 days from now (salary). Sell the other one for a friend. It's very good that they ask for money, actually, it puts away those empty preorders and those who resell their queue. Glad with what Sony ME is doing.

It's literally the one thing that bugs me about the hype for 120FPS games. I know that some people will enjoy that framerate but alot of games are going to look like garbage when they run that way. But as long as it's an option it doesn't really bother me.
For that reason I'm hoping it's just the initial cross-gen multiplayer games (Dirt, COD, etc) supporting 120Hz.

Although I am intrigued to play a game at over 60Hz just to see what it's like. If it does become a persistent thing in this generation hopefully it wont be at the expensive of the game.

Would reducing the resolution, removing RT, reducing draw distance a bit, etc, be enough for an optional 120Hz mode in a non-crossgen game?

If not then the design/ambition of the games will need to be lowered, such as polygon count, physics, AI, destructibility, player/enemy count, etc. Hopefully it won't happen 🤞

Xbox Series X and Series S will sell like hotcakes. New gen of consoles and the fact you can finance them also with Gamepass and Xbox gold included. All access will be big for Xbox for the first year of two. With rumors of a new switch launching next year I think will hurt its sales slightly.

I'm not sure about that financing, you can finance whatever you want here through the bank, and mostly 0% for 12 months for some banks. I think you find it in most countries, the difference is that xbox will deal with the headache of some not completing the payment and so instead of leaving it to shops/banks.

Got mine yesterday from Geekay and it's a forced bundle of 3 accessories and I got an extra controller, charging station and Pulse 3D headset but luckily I was going to buy those anyway.

Yeah, it's a strange thing, my friend told me the same, so seems like I helped out with the extra console + Pulse 3D. Other shops here in my city force you to pay full price but for only the PS5 disc version console, no details about accessories. No details about PS5DE neither, I don't think our market would accept it, even for people buying only digital copies like me. :lollipop_tears_of_joy: It's a FOMO thing.

That all access it is just marketing spin on standard financing, as some people here said already, most of the big retail shops offer financing options

If you look at the hole in the base, you can notice that there is a wider circular indentation on the bottom side. This means that is the side where the head of the screw is lodged. So the hole is not to screw the base to the table from above, but to the PS5 from below (which makes sense, since the console is very tall and could produce a lot of leverage when standing vertical, definitely more than those two decentered flappy plastic hooks can hold on their own).

Consequently, the "button" at the bottom is most likely just a detatchable piece of rubber that keeps the screw hole closed when the console is held horizontally and the base is not attached on that side (you most likely don't have to screw it in when the console is horizontal, since the possible leverage is much lower and the PS5 is a lot more stable already).

My perspective on what you mentioned is it's not a screw hole but a button to release the side panel/s which then gives you access to the nvme port and other internals.

This is pure speculation, you could well be right.

Think we can all agree, that this gen is a cluster fuck of info, confusion and general wtf were they thinking

From both ms and Sony

See where they both are in a yewr or so, when more content is out

They want to be a part fo your next 4000$ spending session

LOL! Bad for them, I've been 100% digital since late 2014. Shops used to love me. I was planning to give my PS4 Pro to my nephew, but he's going for PS5, so I'll just trade it in with its 2TB internal and another 1TB as well (original storage) to whatever price it gets, my nephew actually trading his newly bought PS4 Pro (1-2 months ago) for 150 OMR ($390), originally bought for $470 with 1-2 games, and paying extra for 215 OMR ($559) for PS5. Sounds like a good deal, I would be happy for 100 OMR ($260) myself for my Pro as it's been here since 2016 and still pretty silent, with extra storage as well. :lollipop_tears_of_joy: I bet it's full of dust inside, never cleaned it, nor the OG PS4.

People think I'm lying, and I told them that I would run even GOW and TLOU2 to show how silent it is (all of PS4's here are silent, except some US versions scalpers sold here early in 2013).

Note: Have cleaned it from the outside and the area there after the video. :lollipop_tears_of_joy: :messenger_anxious:

Yes, Sony charge full price here too. They guarantee to receive it no later than 21st of November 10:00PM. 🤣🤣

That's probably because November 20th is Friday which is a weekend here.

Hope they deliver it by 19th.

Big shops don't have weekends here? They said you'll 100% get it in 19th of Nov. Maybe it's Sony KSA having weekend that day, but that should be an exception. You don't get a new console every year. Or maybe the demand is extremely high there and population is much higher than here as well so they don't want to give empty promises.

What does 4.5 million PS5s by the end of the year actually mean? That everyone who wants one will get one? Or are they still going to sell out as fast as they come in? And if so, until when?

Maybe it has to do with delivery as I ordered online. Not from a store.
