Sony can't really compete on this scale. You'd need an Amazon or an Apple to get into video games in a big way to rival the kind of expenditure Msft can go to.
They won't fork that kind of money for sure, but it doesn't mean there won't be deals on Sony's side as well.

Well, as far as I read it, Id Software is part of ZeniMax Media. Does that mean that the id-engine is now also from MS?
Every IP on the twitter image is MS now. Ongoing deals will go through, but Doom 3 for example, Xbox only.

Man these big investment either will push xbox sales or it will tank the xbox devotion

if the xbox series x still be outsold 2 to 1 after all these billions invested I can not think xbox will survive axing by shareholders

we hope them the best because competition is healthy for the medium

we don't want sony to become arrogant again

Remember when moneyhatting a couple of timed exclusives was anacronistic anticonsumerism? Waiting to see how all the usuals suspects (here and on Twitter) will tell us that outright buying a multi-AAA IP publisher is absolutely genius and the reason why they love Microsoft.

And how the anti-consumer gang will claim how good this is for the industry :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It's not. Generally speaking, exclusives aren't a good thing for consumers. But then again, corporations don't care about consumers.

So with Microsoft acquiring Bethesda, does that mean Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6 will be Xbox exclusives 🤔

Xbox/PC most likely. But then again, according to Pete Hines Bethesda will still self-publish, so maybe the games will come to PS5 as well?

I guess MS war chest was real after all, eh? Phil isnt fucking around. I love it and hate it at the same time.

It's pretty crazy how much FUD there was on the internet with journalists saying that its Sony who is going on spending sprees and buying big games. Well, turns out it was MS.

There was so much FUD spread about PS5 being more powerful too. Colin Moriarty, Andrew Reiner, Kleegamefan, all said PS5 was more powerful. Wrong. Github wasnt real. Wrong. Sony believes in generations. Wrong.

At the end of the day, exclusives matter. This is what I've been asking MS to do all this time. Invest. Invest your billions. And yet the xss being a reality is keeping me from enjoying this. Lets hope Lockhart doesnt hold back these games.

Jimbo needs to go. Cross gen games, $70 consoles, weaker console for the same amount of money, and now letting 8 studios get away. Not to mention, Elder scrolls, Arguably the biggest exclusive out of GTA. Sony will survive, and thankfully things will be 50-50 again, but wounded Sony is best Sony. they got too arrogant and too lazy and we paid the price.

It's funny that. We say the same thing about Microsoft. They were wounded badly after the XB1 debacle, then rebounded with the X1X, XSX and the numerous acquisitions... and now this. Future is looking stronger than ever for them.

Wonder how/if Sony will react to this.

Sony has more than $33B cash in hand, with very small debts, they can put as much if they feel so. They could as well expand internally instead, much cheaper.

This is the mic drop moment that was missing from the Showcase event, shit MS, you could've closed the deal earlier AND what a mic drop moment you could've had.

Even if this should happen, it will not a big loss for MS
As long Gamepass and PC works and sells, they will be more than ok... I think

Games are the primary growth engine in gaming, and games are fueling new cloud-gaming services like Xbox Game Pass, which has reached a new milestone of over 15 million subscribers.

Pretty impressive growth. 5 milion new subscribers in about 5 months.

very good news for MS camp.
I don't like fallout or skyrim but wolfenstein or Arkane games or Tango Gameworks games were superb in past .

Now this is something, I might buy XSX afterall. DAMN IT ! :D

At this point, who cares?

Now we're potentially in a situation where both the greedy pricks have to properly compete with one another for our money. This means better games, at lower prices.

Whoever loses, we win.

Another fun fact: Zhuge has acquired Ex-CEO Kaz Hirai's joke book in a $8 billion power move.

In all seriousness though, this is some power move for Game Pass and might ensure MS win the US if nowhere else. Not sure it is good overall for the industry to acquire an entire publisher with multiple franchises over multiple platforms but let's see if/how Sony respond to this.

Gamepass was such a brilliant idea from the standpoint of getting more $$$out of MS brass for games. They weren't going to spend much in the traditional sense, but you sell them the idea of becoming the Netflix of games with potential spillover to cloud (powered by Azure of course) and things look a lot different. They will need a massive amount of studios to get the kind of traction they want. I still wouldn't be surprised if there comes a day when MS flips the switch and Xbox Studios become GamePass exclusive, not anytime soon though.

to be honest I was bitter by sony 70$ games price tag

It is like " arrogant sony is back "

sony needs to pushed hard to make the best they can do

but I hoped Microsoft ditch the subscription base model and compete with sony in AAA full priced games

So MS/Xbox will have more unpolished and bugged games in its portfolio....

Guess what guys more Fallout 76 type games on the way

Doom Fallout
Skyrim Fallout
Elders Fallout

I'm 99% sure it'll be Silent Hill developed in collaboration between Kojipro and Japan studio. The trailer will pan up to norman reedus' face, he'll go "kept you waiting, huh?"

Time to snatch Hideo Kojima and Konami. :lollipop_tears_of_joy:

Pleasantly surprised by the acquisition, but truly hope the games will still come to PS5 and the whole portfolio on Game Pass day one

Everything aside, I'm curious to see how this incorporation will go down. Bethesda is not just a random studio, it's an entire galaxy of studios with a very specific corporate culture of its own, and a lot of baggage (both good and bad). What happens to the Bethesda game client? What happens to the Creation Club? What happens to Fallout 76?

In other news, I guess now Obsidian can develop the next Fallout? 🤷‍♂️

Microsoft could buy Sony with their cash on hand. Sony's entire market cap is under 100 billion. Microsoft have 130+ billion just in cash on hand, let alone all their assets.

Not really comparable.

But of course Sony have plenty of money to spend on studios/games. Thats a given.
