Sony is charging 70$ for a PS3 game with sick new graphics.

MS just added every beth game at launch for no added cost.

XBox is such a better value proposition

Shit level trolling attempt.

Bethesda is an amazing acquisition but a few of their big new games are still a while before release. What new exclusive games will you be playing in November?

Only if you like what is being offered under Gamepass. Having access to a pile of games you have no interest in is of no value to anyone. Granted this will certainly enhance the offering for many and may be enough to get an S under my TV at some point down the road depending what comes out.

2020 has been a hell of a ride for the good and the bad. I was already excited for Next Gen. Microsoft buying Zenimax and Bethesda is a major Megaton. Could change gaming over this next generation. I am in shock and don't know what to think.

Oh, grow the fuck up. Both consoles have value propositions over the other. This is a time for us to celebrate a move towards stronger competition in the games industry, not engage in childish console warring.

Microsoft could buy Sony with their cash on hand. Sony's entire market cap is under 100 billion. Microsoft have 130+ billion just in cash on hand, let alone all their assets.

Not really comparable.

But of course Sony have plenty of money to spend on studios/games. Thats a given.

Yet Sony makes $70-80B revenue and has $33B cash on hand and $8.9B debts. MS makes $110B revenue, $130B cash in hand, $67B debts. It's not as big as you would think.

Say what you will about Microsoft, but this is pretty awesome (from Todd Howard at Bethesda):

When I received the Lifetime Achievement Award at GDC, I joked in my acceptance "I wonder how many achievement points this one is worth?" At the end of the ceremony, some good friends from Microsoft congratulated me and said they'd find out. A few months later I was given a code to a game they had created, named after me and locked to my account. When ran, it unlocks a single achievement - "Lifetime - 1000pts." It still sits in my list when I check, and I smile every time.

How much is FromSoftware?
I've seen this mentioned a couple of times, and it makes no sense. Buying Insomniac made sense. They're a workhorse, and their output is consistently solid. They had a close working relationship with Sony for years, and have had solid sales. From Software? I'm not even sure they're in the same stratosphere. That would seem like a waste of money, IMO. That would be analogous to MS buying Rare years ago. You expect it to pay great dividends, and then realize that the developer was always kinda flakey.

Bo Microsoft have a market cap of over 1.5 Trillion dollars. I love PlayStation. But I can do basic math and I know 1.5 trillion is fucking huge lol. Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, these corporations are on a different level.

OK, so right now Sony really needs to step up their own game.
MS really is look more sweet pro consumer friendly.
Even if it's smoke screen.
It's working.

Like our original partnership, this one is about more than one system or one screen. We share a deep belief in the fundamental power of games, in their ability to connect, empower, and bring joy. And a belief we should bring that to everyone - regardless of who you are, where you live, or what you play on. Regardless of the screen size, the controller, or your ability to even use one.
We can't think of a better group of people to do that with than those at Xbox.
That tweet doesn't confirm anything.

That's if someone is willing to buy it, it's theoretical.

So Todd Howard claims Bethesda games won't be exclusive... If true that means we won't see Craig with a crossbow or a battle axe, that's sad. 😔 😜

Wait so Microsoft bought Bethesda and now all their games on Game Pass.... but some/all are also gonna be on other platforms too? Thats odd choice, like Minecraft?

No way, they gotta be locking those games up to Xbox/PC. No way they let Starfield/Scrolls6 go to PS5.

By your argument, they should lock Minecraft into Xbox too. No reason to lock TES but not lock Minecraft.

sony buys spider-man for avengers = anti-consumer
xbox buys all of bethesda = pro-consumer?

nah, same shit. I don't mind the exclusiv stuff tho. Its "anti-consumer" but who cares.

Good job Xbox, ya bought yourself a lot of exclusive games now.

Well this is pretty huge, there was me thinking MS was messing up this new generation. Well played MS, well played.

I have to wonder how it will go post current commitments with respect to PS5. $7.5b is a lot of cash to splurge and I don't know if the gains from keeping everything XBox/PC exclusive will be enough to cover the money left on the table if you stop releasing for PS. It's a damned bold move which ever way you look at it.

The comments from Todd Howard don't explicitly mean still releasing for PS5 to me - it could just echo MS's commitment to releasing more affordable consoles and cloud gaming. Time will tell. With Minecraft they were buying a globally known phenomenon, this is much more of a core games base purchase.

I was wavering on when to buy an XSX, this is the most convincing thing they've done to shift that balance recently.

The question is, who bought Bethesda? Xbox Division, or higher ups in Microsoft? Because that distinction might decide if Bethesda truly go exclusive or not.

I agree. They should take Minecraft off PS4. I've never thought that was wise. Nintendo wouldn't let Sony have Animal Crossing, etc etc.
The fact is, Minecraft is earning too much money. So much in fact, that it is arguably more valuable than the potential success of Series X. Basically for Microsoft Xbox itself is pocket change, so they are not going to give up free money in order to help Xbox grow stronger. This is different to Sony where the success of PlayStation is vital.

I am not saying they wouldn't go that way. In fact if Minecraft didn't exist, i probably would agree that TES would go exclusive. But Minecraft does exist, and its special treatment makes me wonder if that model would be extended to other purchased IPs.

Which is more valuable? Xbox Division, or Bethesda's IPs? Does it make sense to make less money on Bethesda games in order to grow Xbox? That is an unknown until Star Field comes out.

We asked for more competition between the two companies and this will bring that level of comp. If you want Playstation first party get a PS5. If you want Xbox first party which now includes titles like Fallout and Elder Scrolls then get an Xbox or PC.

It's pro-YOUR-consumer :D and anti-NOTYOUR-consumer.
I didn't want to buy XSX, but im really thinking about it right now.
If CDPR agrees on new propostion from MS, CP2077 will end up day one in gamepass after all.

I wouldn't rule it out. MS would want to keep the studios solvent, especially with this kind of outlay. Similar to how Spencer said that the 2.5B acquisition of Minecraft was too big for Xbox, I would assume that 7.5B would be the same. In the distant future these games may be GP exclusive, but even then they might still be multi-platform. :messenger_tears_of_joy: Time will tell.

GP is really getting ripped is all I can say, flexing right, left, and center. First EA play and now this.
