Power usage does look really good. Any word on when AMD is actually going to announce these things. Will be interesting to see comparisons against Nvidia.

Oct 28th.

The efficiency of RDNA2 seems higher than Ampere. Or at least, performance per watt tested in games (apparently there's a 250W 80CU card that's competitive with the 320W 3080 i.e slightly slower than the Nvidia card).

TSMC's 7nm process is quite a bit better than Samsung 8nm so that plays a part alongside respective architectures.

1 in a 100,000,000 shot maybe? Shop near my house.

i already demolished an entire packet of the heatwave one.

I have a code Ready.

I swear to god if i win a code for a free bugsnax game, i will go fucking postal.

So, the PS4 greatly exceeded the demo from UE4 ( compare Uncharted4 which released 3 years later ).
I mean peak PS4 seems like a different generation compared to UE4 demo

Is it safe to assume the PS5 will exceed the UE5 demo in due time?
Because that would be spectacular and my brain cant comprehend it at the moment

I've been trying to say this from the moment people started to say "No way games will look like that, that's just a demo", last time we exceeded the UE4 demo, and we can do that again easily, in fact, this time there was no frame issue like it was in the UE4 demo, and this demo was playable...

I believe it will, but at the expense of larger game footprint on the SSD. Even with the help of the new compression that is around 2:1, I think we'll see games ship in 2 blu-ray discs (200GBs) eventually. That's around 400GBs of data if we count the effect of compression.

Those 8K textures comes at a price.

Soo... Posters, board games, and cosplaying guides to The Incredible Hulk. That's it for #TLOUday?

No Factions MP mode/standalone game news? No PS5 Remaster news? Yet another mis-step if you ask me.

Can we seriously just get rid of Jim Ryan and Neil Druckman? The pair are retroactively destroying every ounce of goodness that TLOU1/Remastered and PS4 built up.

I have rapidly dwindling confidence as a buyer in Sony or ND going-forward.

Probably why they did it on a Saturday.

Ihy Sony doesn't have its PlayStation launcher for PC.

This is the same sentiment prior to Sony showcase. Things will be shown as soon as they are ready. Not all announcement has to be PS5-related. If ND is not ready to show anything, they won't show anything. It's not a matter of holding it back from you and making you frustrated.

ND is allowed to have a promotion of their own that doesn't include Factions or a Remastered Version.

Make the compression hit 3.16:1 or so and not everything will need such high resolution textures. Will we see many dual UHD Blu-Ray games? Do not think so, maybe more and more downloadable extra content perhaps.

Cerny said that 2.23 is because is capped...
I wonder if the logic issue was in other parts of the APU or in the GPU part. Going by those numbers the PS5 might have been capped because of the IO complex logic stability or the Zen2 at those temperatures.

Although I'd speculate that on a wider CU count of 40, code would have lower occupancy to the PS5 normally, so heat dissipation would be across another 1/10th of active chip area, so should make it able to take a higher clock with the same concentration of heat as the 36 active CUs for PS5, or because it is 40 CUs, when at higher occupancy (constant power) the thermals might mean a lower base clock on PC for wide workloads, so the constant boosting speed can go higher because of a wider differential of thermals compared to the PS5 moving between high and low occupancy, along with the thermal saving of not having a Zen2 and IO complex heating the GPU, too.

Sorry, not sure what you mean. Smart choices/good news/important info drops can happen at any time. The Internet gets ahold of it and it soon spreads through Twitter and Facebook etc. The PS5 controller felt like a random-ass news drop at 6pm in the evening. Who thought a cosplaying guide was even news-worthy? And to have that instead of any update on Factions? It's been months since the game released. And PS5 is out in mere weeks.

It's just a slap in the face, to pile ontop of Jim's mountain of never ending bullshit each week.

You are actually right. Not every texture has to be seen up-close like the ceiling of the cave (and many other parts). And since the character cannot fly on the part of the game anyway, the textures that she won't have to touch or go near to don't have to be in the highest resolution possible.

How big do you think a shipped game as good looking as the UE5 demo will be? Do you think a game, for example, as big as Assasin's Creed Valhalla using UE5 (assuming as good-looking too) would only require 1 blu-ray disc?

They could have a launch show where they announce it. I remember that Uncharted 4 got its first teaser trailer at the PS4 launch show, they might do the same.

The Week After PS5's Showcase, Sony Told Us Nothing About Its Next-Gen Console

Here's a list of things that, despite pre-orders being open, we still don't know about the PS5:
  • How its user interface will work and what it looks like.
  • How backwards compatibility will work and its approach to next-gen upgrades for tentpole titles like The Last of Us: Part II and Ghost of Tsushima.
  • Which multimedia apps will be available at launch and whether they'll include any new PS5 specific features.
  • What the Create button does and how it improves on the Share button.
  • What launch games Destruction AllStars and Sackboy: A Big Adventure are about.
  • Which non-proprietary SSD drives will be whitelisted at launch and how much they cost.

I get the author's frustration. I too am on the same boat. Come on Soonydo something!

The less they show and the longer they wait, the more they give the impression that they are hiding something. Just like they were waiting so long to share the dimensions.

I hope so man, but we're talking less than 2 months. Even for the later release for the non-chosen countries.

  • UI runthrough
  • Create button/social apps runthrough
  • SHAREPLAY 2.0 (shareable level chunks, curated playlists for challenges/boss rushes?)
  • Console teardown
  • Certified Storage Drives runthrough. Right now we're just all assuming that $200+ Samsung SSD is the chosen one.
  • PS+/PSNow revamp?
  • BC reveal?
So many unanswered stuff. I know there's more I'm forgetting.

Where's Sony's mini videos like MS has for the bloody SERIES S, showing "here's your load time on PS4, and here's it on PS5". Etc.

I think games could easily surpass the demo over the course of this gen.
But its mostly the budget that will dedicate how graphical intense a game will be. Someone (I think from Sony first party) mentioned it would take a long time to create a full game with this kind of geometry and textures.

Just an unrelated side note, but is anyone else just... disgusted that SP can release GOT, and then get busy beavering away and release a multiplayer addon mode that no one even knew was coming, all inbetween the time ND takes to release their game and provide no update on Factions multiplayer? Oh, but they got fucking tlou gifs on twitter, y'all!

Of course we'll be able to surpass that. UE5 was able to do that in real time and it's not even close to done, keep in mind however that the best looking games on PS5 and XsX, coming late in the gen, will not be native 4K

You think ND is sitting on their hands? Making claims about productivity without knowing what they are working on is premature.

The UE5 demo is not 4K either. 4K is and always will be a waste of power for consoles.

I've been ragging on Sony's marketing for well over a year now and frankly it's quite stunning how they have fucked it all up.

I remember people here telling me that is too early to ask for more details. Well we have literally just preordered the console and we still don't know anything about the ui, console features, and how bc works.

The Spiderman fiasco is the perfect example. They are charging money for a product they have not yet shown. Everyone hates it because they haven't shown a side by side comparison of wise the upgrades look like.

This shouldn't be this hard. They are in the business of selling consoles and games and yet they are failing to even show this stuff properly.

Competitive advantage. Sony does not want to show it's hand too early. It will all be revealed before release and if you don't like what they show, you can cancel your pre-order.

No one is buying the console blind.

NAVI 21 would be 22.5 TFs. Pretty decent, but far from the 29.8 TF of the 3080. If priced correctly AMD might have a damn good product, but once again, unable to compete for the high end.

Edit: we still have no idea how exactly AMD cards will run RT so probably performance there will take a bigger hit than with Nvidia. Also, nothing close to DLSS unless they announce something.

Well I do remember that they said during this presentation that they were running on an older PS5 development kit, so who knows how this would be now.

I think they're too busy smelling their own farts about how their stunning and brave story subverted everyone's expectations. And making gifs, apparently.

You know, just, business-wise, or hell in plain logical-thinking, "how" do you let #TLOUday pass, and offer up what they did. When they damn-well know from for uproar when MP was cancelled, that people want Factions MP? They should already know this because people have followed the MP across two consoles, and it's still busy today, like 7 years later. Do you know how many games would KILL for a 7 year tail-end?

Now is not the time to be fucking around making bad decisions, raising prices, down-talking bc and PSVR, giving out no info, mis-communicating things when you do rarely say something, and generally antagonising the fans you do have.

Neil and ND's issues are like a smaller microscope of Jim and Sony's overall.

You can't just look at TFs and call it a day. If that was the case then why not compare the Vega 64 to the Series X and declare the Vega 64 the one true next gen GPU? There are IPC differences between architectures. A 29.8 TF 3080 is only 30% faster than a 2080Ti which does not have close to the amount of TFs. Not only would NAVI 21 at that performance not be a far cry from the 3080, it could even be better than the 3080!

What do they stand to gain? What do they stand to lose? What cost-benefit goes into these complaints?

Maybe because TLOU2 Factions is big enough of a selling point to be featured in a PS5 showcase? Maybe its a way bigger project than the prior TLOU multiplayer? I can easily make speculations for it to be not featured today but ND being lazy assholes would be way down the list.
Like I said its premature for such sweeping statements.

1 RDNA2 TF == 1.3 RTX TF. Easy
