PS5 has 36CUs and a 315mm^2 chip and the XSX has 52CUs and 360mm^2 chip. XsX has 44% more CU count than PS5 but only 13% bigger SoC! CUs in PS5 GPU should have been bigger than what is inside XsX! RDNA2 Comput Units supposed to be noticeably bigger than RDNA1 Comput Units! And maybe other features like infinity cache or something like that!
 
Just wanted to point out that the Xbox Series X is not "cut down Navi 21," its its own custom die design.

Navi 10 (5700 XT) has 2 shader engines, 20 CUs each, total of 40 CUs.
Navi 21 (6900 XT) is rumored to have 4 shader engines, 20 CUs each, total of 80 CUs.
Navi 22 (6700 XT) is rumored to have 2 shader engines, 20 CUs each, total of 40 CUs.
AMD use 5 Dual CUs per shader array, 2 arrays per SE.

The Xbox has 2 shader engines, 28 CUs each, total of 56 CUs. It doesn't have the 5 DCUs, it has 7. Therefore its custom, because it cannot be 7 cut down from 5. Math. They cannot take a die with 4x20 and cut it down to 2x28. They could cut it down to 4x18 or 4x16, hence the rumors of other AMD PC GPUs with 72 or 64 CUs. But the XSX is clearly a one off custom chip.

However, from playing the game in the past, I'm pretty sure this section (and other sections like it) are pre-rendered in some form.

My gut says they just rendered them again with some slightly different settings...

Both have 4 shader arrays, XSX is not wider than ps5 on silicon. Only the memory interface is wider.

Cheer up, both consoles will perform similarly and both achieved their goals differently. Most 3rd party will likely look so samey nobody cares. I only challenge when someone starts claiming superiority as its just wrong.

Both consoles are totally custom, and as such you cannot compare to PC parts directly. I am excited for the AMD reveal as hardware is interesting to me. It is likely both consoles will be behind PC parts if they have huge L2 cache, god knows PC gamers will be saying both consoles are not full RDNA2. Thats fine.

As long as we get 1440p60 or above performance options and some nice rays ina graphics mode on console we are fine. Anyone expecting consoles to dominate in performance against dedicated GPU cards that cost more than a console is setting up for dissapointment.

I think the thought that sony has built a very good machine is troubling some people. They hate the idea that Cerny has put so much effort time and innovation into it.

The fact that it punches above its weight, or is very close in performance to xbox a machine that is meant to be so much more powerful is a huge sticking point.

Thats what the anger is really about,

It matters little in the long run and games will do the talking, or the games will actually do all the talking in Sonys case.

I am surprised people were expecting PS5 to lag waay behind Series X. Didn't we know from the start both are almost equally powerful? A 1.7Tflop advantage isn't going to result in night and day difference. This isn't Base PS4 vs Base Xbox One when both of those consoles launched 7 years ago, where PS4 did 1080p native on all games and Xbox One struggled between 720p-900p!

Why do you think Ps5 L2 will be 32 MB out of interest ? thats 8 x bigger than usual....thats allot of die space for a console. 8MB would be good, 16 would be dream ....any more expectation is hoping too much.

28 th is when RDNA2 is revealed, and normally shortly after the full reveal we get the RDNA2 white paper detailing all the ins and outs of the technology.

Thats all, but it will allow us to compare what we know about consoles so far, and put allot of things into correct perspective.

Alsio when embargo and NDA lift, both Sony, MS and others can talk more freely, we will get more discussion.

How about the SRAM-I/O complex? If there is some room left, i hope for a larger L2 GPU cache.

Depends on the size of Tempest and the cache coherency and Cache scrubbers etc, or the SRAM for IO. So we dont know.

All we know is we will get much more RDNA2 information and people will be free to talk more, even more so after white paper.

I know since the rtx cards debuted, people think all things shinier are better, but that is not really the case. The settings on PC are at insane quality. The shinier effect on Series X is not necessarily better, it's not using RT for reflections here btw, they've simply decreased on the opacity levels. This has nothing to do with Series X doing something the 3090 can't....or something extraordinary. I suspect the PC game will be patched with the same enhancements the series X is receiving. I don't believe all effects are enhancements though. Some of the tweaks we see on the patched Gears 5 would be done to improve framerate to 4k 60 and 4k 120fps levels.......So, You might see some aesthetic changes that may look more appealing at first glance, but not necessarily more GPU intensive. Optimization is a weird word...

There is nothing to really discuss, i believe the ps5 is a better-more thought developed console, simple as that. You don't want to believe nor do your friends because it paints your console in a negative light.

We have seen the posts of developers talking about the ps5 "how people will be talking about it as something really really special, what was that i bet you a dollar in a year's time tweet. Remember that.

Even Digital foundy guy said the things he was hearing about it are going to surprise people, he said maybe not thrice but pretty close. This last statement means there are some serious differences between the consoles, the amount of Cu's on the xbox vs the Ps5 and yet he is praising the Ps5. There are some serious modifications or advantages the ps5 must have in design or hardware to get that close. THAT'S MY POINT.

I personally think Sony has pulled out all the stops, custom silicone, cache scrubbers, coherency cores whatever it is, we have 3 weeks to go and we are going to get to see what it's all about. For your sake i hope your right because if sony have built a machine that is on par with Microsoft with so many less Cus, but also have the best controller, the best sound card, the fastest ssd, a cooler console, a quieter one, Wifi fucking route 66, usb-c3p0, with out cutting corners, your Green team in a whole whole lot of trouble.

I personally think the Xbox one sxs what ever the fuck it is called is a standard piece of kit thrown together in a box.
Look at the speeds of that Gpu, what the fuck is going on there.

"Ps5 is not going to have 128 MB of L2 like an 80 CU PC part, so max half at 64 MB, but its a console so 32 MB would be a good bet...."

Even if games are 1440p vs 4K like the rumoured Yakuza title you still won't see a large difference between the two. One will be slightly blurrier that's about it.

Wouldn't the Tempest Engine be smaller than a normal CU since it's stripped of its caches?

That was my first reply to someone asking without having looked at any calculations. Could still be true, although a few posts later when I looked at the calcs I revised it down to 16 MB. If you want to mock my estimations, feel free, I dont really care.

The PC part of 40 CU is listed in apple drivers as only 192 bit bus, so its a balance ps5 is 256 bit so will not need as much for memory efficiency.

However, there is the ray tracing aspect. And quite frankly, if RDNA2 PC is chucking 96 MB at the solution, neither console will be in that game.

XSX has a wider memory bus, so it can get away with a lower L2, so there are many ways to skin a cat,.

There is one good thing, your starting to realise its not just about TF and memory bandwidth, we are making progress /..

The console with an inferior GPU, a slower CPU, lower memory bandwidth and is larger is now better thought out and developed🤔

Looking at the power supply and the fact the PS5 has to downclock at a certain power threshold, a point a lot of people are conveniently forgetting, I'd be pretty surprised if the XSX isn't also cooler and quieter on top.

Let me spell it out for your slowly. The Digital Found guy Said he has heard fromDevolpers that the Ps5 is quite an amazing piece of kit and is really really special. Others have been saying its the console we will be talking about in years to come. Why would they say that about a system that has an inferior Gpu and slow cpu.

It means Cerny did some amazing work in development because its getting close to the XBOX. Please just try and think about it for a minute.

You missing that that there are other things on the Soc like the CPU also and they are the same.

If you remove the CPU (same on both Soc:s) and other things that are same on both consoles the Series X might very well be 44% bigger.
