I've always thought Mark Cerny was taking shots at MS when he said they didn't just incorporated the PC part into their console."AMD is continuously improving and revising their tech. For RDNA 2, their goals were, roughly speaking, to reduce power consumption by architecting the GPU to put data where it’s needed, to optimise the GPU for performance, and to add a new, more advanced, feature set. But that feature set is malleable, which is to say we have our own needs for PlayStation and that can factor into what the AMD roadmap becomes. So collaboration is formed. If we bring concepts to AMD that are felt to be widely useful, then they can be adopted into RDNA 2 and used broadly, including PC GPUs. If the ideas are sufficiently specific to what we’re trying to accomplish, like the GPU cache scrubbers I was talking about, then they end up being just for us. If you see a similar discrete GPU available as a PC card at roughly the same time as we release our console, that means our collaboration with AMD succeeded in producing technology in both worlds. It doesn’t mean we simply incorporated a PC part into our console.”
I'm genuinely thinking about that right now, some people are coming on here pretending there was sort of big win for team Green and some major disappointment for Team Blue, I really don't see it honestly. Unless people had some wild expectations for todays event or something but who knows lol
I think everyone needs to look back at The Road to PS5. Everything is in there:
I've always thought Mark Cerny was taking shots at MS when he said they didn't just incorporated the PC part into their console.
Need to take a win where they can. Just like with the packaging or Team Blue and the UI resolution. Warring is getting out of hand.I don't know. It's like people are acting like AMD revealed the PS5 as an 8TF system or something. All I learned is that the PS5s clocks are not thst crazy to begin with and that doesn't seem like bad news to me. Then there's the fact that the event indirectly revealed how some features are exclusive to the PS5 like the Cache scrubbers for example.
Really can't see how anything negative come out of it.
It also directly revealed that some features are exclusive to the Series S/X though, it goes both ways. Why haven't sony talked about SuperResolution, VRS, etc? Because they likely don't have it.I don't know. It's like people are acting like AMD revealed the PS5 as an 8TF system or something. Also nice to see Xbox confirm they're using full RDNA 2, although I'm pretty sure we already knew that so I'm not sure why some folks are doing cartwheels and victory laps? or I guess
It's because the sony folk in here have been saying for the last few months that the Xbox isn't RDNA2, and that the PS5 is. This proves without doubt 100% that they were wrong in a big way.My thoughts exactlyCame into the thread and it’s as if some revelation happened but it’s literally what MS have been saying for the last few months but with a PR spin to it lol.
Crazy, guess anything for a win is desperately needed on the green side of the fence.
We need to wait and see if they're the same res and FPS. They both have the same max res and fps cap, absolutely, but unless they're both locked framerate - which they won't be - the max fps means nothing. If they use dynamic resolution, what is the most common resolution on both? Again, max means nothing. All of Ubisoft's games are same res and FPS on PS5 and XSX.
So... I assume you are waiting for Phil to explain that?
It's because the sony folk in here have been saying for the last few months that the Xbox isn't RDNA2, and that the PS5 is
So you are basically saying that when Microsoft says that the XSX has "full RDNA2 architecture" is lying?
How is this possible? Companies can't just up and say they're RDNA2 and not be RDNA2 compliant. It's because the sony folk in here have been saying for the last few months that the Xbox isn't RDNA2, and that the PS5 is. This proves without doubt 100% that they were wrong in a big way.
Your attempts to downplay it are hilarious though.
In reality it probably doesn't actually mean much, but it just proves that all those armchair experts in here shilling for Sony and talking down on the Xbox really do have no idea what they're talking about. It's fantastic to see so much crow be served.
Can't they? The PS5 is based on RDNA 2, but it doesn't have the full hardware and software feature set so is not "full RDNA2".How is this possible? Companies can't just up and say they're RDNA2 and not be RDNA2 compliant.
I take it you havent spent much time in this thread the last month or two?.How is this possible? Companies can't just up and say they're RDNA2 and not be RDNA2 compliant.

Er loads of people, after that silly tweet, that was taken as fact as usual.Who was saying XSX was RDNA 1 in this thread?
Er loads of people, after that silly tweet, that was taken as fact as usual.
The whole reason why certain sections were hyping up this AMD event was because they thought they were going to get some kind of confirmation.
Well they certainly did get confirmation lol.
Some of you talk so much bollocks in this thread that you dont even know you are doing it half the time.
Paul from RedGamingTech
"There is one small little thing, I'm kinda hesitant to bring it up because I know people are going to get mad at me, but I'm going to mention it anyway, I have a sneaking suspicion that a variant of the Infinity Cache is in the PS5, now the reason I say that is because when I was asking my sources, a couple of them accurate, the same sources told me that the PS5 was running incredibly quiet, very cool and they gave me all the breakdown of the PS5 testing procedures from Sony thats turned out to be accurate, they told me that the cooling solution was very different, very unique and they gave me other insights and lo and behold we started to see patents for that.....but one hint they gave me was that cache coherency on the PS5 is incredibly important and this is one of the reasons we see cache scrubbers...when I asked my source why does it look there is some sort of stacked memory on the PS5, are we looking at 3D stacked memory? they told me and I quote "think PS Vita". So I don't know if that is the case that there some type of chunk of cache or if it some type of Infinity Cache, I am still pretty dam confident in my information that PS5 has custom RDNA 2 features, or more specifically it's built on RDNA 2 with custom features which are NOT seen on RDNA 2 silicon...we'll just have to wait and see."

That much Cache would take up an insane amount of Die space, it makes no sense for a APU
And you'r acting blind to it, or dont post in this thread often. Why do you think we were getting all the 'tick tock', 'so close now' posts from the radicals about this event?.The tweet from the weeb about frontend crap?
I'm seeing people either meme it or just call it bs
I think you're playing imaginary victim here

Eh?, i'm certain PS5 is RDNA2. I'm not someone trying to say otherwise. I'm just calling out the bullshit when i see it.You mean you buy into all the PR from Microsoft that PS5 isn’t real RDNA2 like Dealer and all the other M$ fanboys say? I’d much rather Sony not waste die size on server side stuff and other broad PC architecture, and focus it on making their actual machine even better...
And you'r acting blind to it, or dont post in this thread often. Why do you think we were getting all the 'tick tock', 'so close now' posts from the radicals about this event?.
Seriously go over the last 300 or 400 pages if you want 'proof'. In fact just go over the whole 3000 pages for utter bollocks.
The word is no Dolby atmos or vision for either consoles UHD player so far. Sony has tempest for games, x has atmos.Been offline for a little bit. Moving into new digs. Did I miss anything? Drama? Bans?
I did have a question though - perhaps it has been answered. Does the PS5 support Atmos in Blu-Ray movie playback or media apps such as Netflix? I know they are going with tempest in games. But was curious if they scrapped Atmos altogether?
I dont think this thread is the boogeyman, i think you have the wrong set of fans there, only one set of fans seem obsessed with paranoia about Xbox. I think this thread is a cesspit that the mods decided to make a semi safe space for the cutom tag users for some bizaare reason..I'm looking at it as we speak and all i'm seeing is the usual trolling by Bo, people calling BS or questioning the credibility of the weeb tweeter
You've conjured this place up as a boogeyman in your head to the point you're actually having nightmares now lmao

Well the thread is coming to an end soon, and not soon enough.
The whole premium boxing thing was so stupid, who cares at the end of the day. Thats when you know fanboying is going too far.Safespace lol
Just don't talk nonsense like you're doing or mention premium boxing (RIP X-Fighter) and you'll be fine in here
Promise
That tweet claimed the CUs are RDNA1. It also said the render back end and RT are RDNA2, which follows the features clarified today.Er loads of people, after that silly tweet, that was taken as fact as usual.

What? Its been known for a few weeks that XSX CU is not RDNA2 with per CU frequency control to anyone who has been payng attention, and all the listed requirements for fast cache and fast clocks.
Yes XSX CU is exactly same as RDNA1 with added RT feature. RDNA2 CUs will look VERY different to do 2.2 Ghz and beyond.
But Ps5 will be missing mesh shaders and other oddities, and both will not have infiity cache.
Fun eh ?
It's a bit of a cesspool, so no, but they both had press releases that swung their RDNA2 dicks in our faces. I'd figure at that point people will let it go, but I guess not. So many people here and other places are trying to compensate and adjust the narratives. It's kind of sad. Both use the same architecture, but only one uses all of the RDNA2 feature set. Which after reviewing the tape, I've noticed Infinity Cache is not an RDNA feature, as it's more of a GPU hardware spec. I wonder if that's where Sony's IO and SSD shines in a similar way the Xbox's Velocity Architecture with DirectStorage come into play.I take it you havent spent much time in this thread the last month or two?.

What's wild, all the talk recently made me go back and look at The Road to PS5 again. At around 35:00 Cerny said RDNA 2 cu's....more than once....and that was in a slide. Why did he specifically say RDNA 2 cu's?I think everyone needs to look back at The Road to PS5. Everything is in there:
I've always thought Mark Cerny was taking shots at MS when he said they didn't just incorporated the PC part into their console.
So I did some napkin math (and photoshop) using the XSX APU and Navi21XL APU as reference.
This is the only way the PS5 APU would have infinity cache (64MB), and it would be shared between the GPU and CPU at ~305-310mm2:
I'm doubtful PS5 has this setup and not even sure if it's possible for the CPU/GPUs to share cache like this, but the rough math adds up.
Totally, and AndAndTech even compared Infinity Cache to what MS had done in the past with ESRAM/SRAM.
I never figured the road to PS5 graphic was to scale, and only drew mine up after seeing people write off infinity cache due to size (128MB=6 trillion transistors/147mm2).
Idk why people think Infinity Cache on a console APU would mean it can ONLY be 128MB on-die. The higher-end RX 6000 cards have 128MB of Infinity Cache because of their high CU count, therefore it takes up a lot of die space, something like the PS5 with only 36 CUs wouldn't even require 64MB (probably way less than that). "Variant" of the Infinity Cache also means the size of the caches too.Variant meaning it's different but achieves the same end goal.
Eg.
Cache scrubbers - flushes unnecessary cache.
Infinity Cache - Designed to hold more cache.
Both methods seek to relieve the bottlenecks in the GPU.
What's also mind blowing is that NVIDIA has the the same terminologies for VRS, Mesh Shader, SFS, etc. DirectX is a hardware abstracted API that AMD, NVIDIA, and Intel can do their implementations. And each company have different implementations. It's obvious that the next gen GPU technologies have been in work for a long time and DirectX is one way to utilize them. Sony has not confirmed nor denied these features exist although the implications are that they do exist and/or further customized.AMDs RDNA2 is 'made' for PC as are its discreet GPUs / Radeon 6000.. Mindblowing so far. It uses Directx12 Ultimate... DXR, VRS, Mesh shading etc.
Microsoft owns DirectX. mindblown. Microsoft also has a XSX which uses Directx12 Ultimate..... lines up perfectly with RDNA2 DXR, VRS, Mesh Shading, SFS etc...
Sony DOES NOT USE DIRECT X 12 ULTIMATE. We ALL know/knew this. It does not use DXR, Mesh Shading or SFS. We all know/knew this.
HENCE, the Microsoft PR / Tweet.
What are people actually arguing?
Registering at Ree is your first mistake
Just got rejected from RE lol .. wtf it’s the same email and it’s a professional one, wtf is wrong with this website?. Is this how they welcome the new comers?.
btw I registered with the same nickname ( Captain Hero ) is that the reason? Lol
