Not the solution but if headphones become a drastically better option, then people that are picky about console noise shouldn't be bothered as much. I personally don't care about fan noise but I understand if some people are.

This time feels different though. MS keeps speaking about power. They know how bad they'll look if they are beaten in their main area of focus. There won't be any kinect, VR or cloud magic to spin the fact that they have the weaker machine and they will have go cheaper than Sony. They clearly want to avoid that. Sony can live off the promise of games to come regardless of power. MS can't. MS wants the power. Lots of it. And they made sure they'll have it. Just look at the case. We'll see what Sony's got soon enough.

Not true. My TV Samsung 4K have the worst TV speakers I found in life, so I use headphones most part of time and is very useful when someone is sleeping or a bit late on night.

people do not realize that Sony releasing a almost 4TF gimped console would be supremely stupid. Especially when they both are working with the same partner(AMD).
I think the difference will be similar to the base Ps4 and Xbox one when they were released.

I've always hated the idea of Dev kits being more powerful with more ram than retail gaming systems. I would rather they have less overall power so when it releases it actually runs as designed or even better. Less frame drops etc etc.
So with this in mind I predict ps5 Dev kit to be most powerful but retail Xbox will be most powerful. A win for both sides.

THAT may have been the entire goal all along.
After being dramatically corrected on Lockhart he just didn't post with the same confidence. I also don't believe he had a sudden surge of ethics, or cares that the forum he visits had a meltdown. But I do believe he was trying perhaps to protect his source or most definitely his own ass. Which is totally understandable.
Something is off, something didn't add up and the people in charge over there refused to certify and rubber stamp it for him right away. So imagine, you're at the center of so much in the Insider Wars and your leaks fall short of clearance. That might cause a person to become very disenchanted with the place and leave. His parting words to the staff not to discuss anything he revealed with them means they were still vetting him on day number 2 and were not going to green light him anytime soon.

I don't believe that he's gone though, he's going to continue to hover around and post. He can't help himself at this point. But if he tries to excite the community again with another of his vague claims, he should expect a fair amount of skepticism.

Both Pro and X were announced and leaked at the same time. The tech in X needed more time to get done than the Pro. The Pro was alot more basic than the X was.
MS has more money and resources than Sony does, and I think the X was a sign of things to come.
Sony and MS are swimming in the same water using AMD, so extra Cu's and higher frequencies is all that can be really done to push extra tflops. The secret sauce like VRS, baked in DX 12, extra ROPs or ACE will be things that each company can do different.

Sony won the power crown this gen, entirely by accident. Sony never expected Microsoft to Gimp their own hardware by splitting resources for the Kinect. And consider the effort made to keep PS4 Pro at $399, these two things made me believe Sony had not, and never ever cared about winning the power crown.
If Sony somehow win the Power Crown again with PS5, it would be purely by chance or circumstance; Sony just care about making the most balanced and reasonably priced next gen machine. Rest assured, if PS5 ended up being more powerful than Scarlet, Sony would market the hell out of it. But that's about as far as it goes with Power. Sony got burned with PS3 and does not want to go there ever again.

This is true, but SONY was in a far more financially precarious position leading up to the PS4 reveal and release. They didn't have the money to build the most powerful console, higher management thought the PlayStation division would fail soon, and the morale in the playstation department was at an all-time low. Funding was also cut, which was why they couldn't take a loss on the unit.
I don't think so. SONY is in a far more financially advantageous position now than in 2012-2013 primarily from high PS4 sales and huge PS+ fees. There is also a lot more confidence in the playstation department, so they're receiving essentially a blank check from SONY. SONY confirmed at a recent investor's meeting that they're going to take a large loss on the PS5, something they refused to do with the PS4.
The circumstances today are different than they were 6-7 years ago. We're back to PS2 and PS3-era SONY sans their fetish for exotic architecture.

The PS4 was more powerful by accident? That's a bold assertion. Yes Cerny did state that they wanted to avoid overly exotic silicon, but that doesn't mean that they weren't trying to make a powerful console.
The PS3 didn't burn them because of its power, it burned them because they put all their weight behind Cell being a paradigm shift in general purpose computing - from super/cluster computing, to even functioning as an ASIC of sorts. That gamble failed. And it wasn't just this, they threw their weight behind blu ray and while they won that war, the cost of pushing forward two brand new technologies they hoped would revolutionise consumer electronics in a single device was just too much.

No, the end goal of Sony is "having a successful PS5 launch". Having more money to spend does not justify making the console more powerful, that is insanity.
Yes, people on game forums want more power. But anyone who TRULY want power, would have been playing on PC. The full and undeniable truth is that gamers want balanced and reasonably priced machines to play on, that is the only reason game consoles exist. Power race is what people argue about between fans, but can never be the true core of a console ecosystem.

And yet, if Microsoft followed SONY's strategy for the PS4, Microsoft could've built an 8 GB GDDR5 machine with 2.5+ TF and that would've been the death knell for PlayStation. The only company that can get away with making weaker consoles in Nintendo. Both SONY and Microsoft are fighting for the power crown.
SONY's financial situation in 2012-2013 prevented them from making a powerful console; that doesn't mean they didn't have aspirations to make the most powerful console. Today, they will make the most powerful console given a much larger budget than they had for PS4.
If you're releasing in the same year and same month, the weaker console will lose unless it's drastically cheaper.
I predict SONY and MS will both price their machines at $499 with the PS5 with a powerlead and a more efficient design.

I think MS is going to hard bake DX 12 into the XSX, so the console is going to be able to get every drop out of its API, what will Sony run with, and how will it compare to DX 12? Im a noob with APIs, so I'm actually interested to find out what part DX 12 etc Will play in this gen.

Sony uses its own proprietary API. It's gnm and gnmx. Ps4 also has its own version of vulkan if devs so choose.
Dx12 will not be the difference maker for next gen and ms will give the xbox is own version of dx12 to better code for the machine

It was, and I'm saying this as a PS-only gamer. PS4's success and powerlead was a complete fluke based off Samsung successfully doubling GDDR5 density right on time and Microsoft focusing on the casual crowd with Kinect.
Had Microsoft focused on power and hardcore gamers and used that $3 billion in R&D for GPU + RAM, they could've built a relatively monstrous machine at that time. It's pretty interesting to think about, but if that alternate reality did play out, the PlayStation division probably wouldn't exist today.

In the end its about winning in profits but not at any means necessary. As I've said before Phil can say whatever he wants or any other Corp talking head but it doesn't mean shit because both companies are striving to bring out the best with minimal loses one just has to be smarter than the other and have a better game plan and so far it's been Sony because we'll thy just been at this gaming thing longer and are just more established.

I do both depending what game I'm playing. For example a Game like Fortnite when I'm being competitive I absolutely need headphones to hear steps clearly no matter where I'm at.

Dude, forget memory (Ram) . PS4 GPU was 40% more powerful than Xbox. Even if PS4 shipped with 4GB of ram it would still be the more powerful machine.

If xbox had of not used the die for esram and instead for CU then it would have been more powerful ( as it was a bigger die it would have mad more cu) than the ps4.
Less than 1% of ps3 games beat the xbox 360 version despite the cell.
If ps4 "secret sauce" made any difference it was only good at keeping up with xbox "secret sauce".. the xbox one usually got higher performance relative to the tf difference than it should have. The xbox one x out performs the ps4 pro by more than the cu and mem bandwidth difference.
Xbox has no problem AT LEAST matching Playstation performance given the same TF.
I dont think we should be debating this here ... go elsewhere and do it.. this is about next gen.
Needless to say touting any idea that A) playstation machines usually have higher performance ( as i pointed out in previous post) or B) that they perform better for same TF are both wrong ... lets just call it even and keep to the facts not recasting fanboy dreams into an alternative reality to predict the future.
