Which now begs the question; Which 'Insider' do we scream "FAKE" to? j/k, but a lot of Feb. rumors will now be thrown in the trash more likely.

And they should be. But people will just cherrypick them and say "yeah he was wrong about that, but plans have changed, it was never sure, but the other stuff he said is still totally legit". We have seen it happening before. Now imagine if the PS5 reveal will actually happen in a newsletter. After all that nonsensical hype. Yo, we have news for you. This is PS5. You can order it now. Check out our game trailers on Youtube. Have a great day.

This does not sound like February, it sounds more like April or May.

I don't know that I can read any timeframe at all on this. I expect reveals in slow teasing steps anyway, just like MS did. MS didn't confirm ANYTHING about power for example, but everyone's running with that 12TF number. That's a good job by MS!

I won't be surprised to see a small announcement from Sony..maybe showing the box or a controller and maybe like a bit more of the Godfall trailer. Then more in the April thru November time frame if they will still launch in November.

For myself, I don't see why these companies don't release in September or at least October instead? Give time for marketing to ramp up before Black Friday? Then again, they put a lot of dollars into marketing so if that was the smart play, I guess they'd be doing it. What do I know about marketing anyway? :)

if it is a storage port it could be a proprietary one. maybe they will sell M.2 SSD drives that are coming in a case that has a connector which fits in this slot.
M.2 drives get cheaper now and this could be a very good solution.

Microsoft did this in the past with the Xbox 360 and Xbox 360S hard drive expansions which were ordinary HDDs inside of a case that is easy to install.

I agree with this line of thinking, but they would need to have an approved list of M2 drives somewhere so that subpar ones aren't slotted in.

I said since day 1 that looks like CFexpress. It's the only feasible expansion storage port and the size matches 1:1. Glad that Sams is finally coming around and stops with the debug BS. And they will of course sell their own, because they need to ensure that it fits the speed requirements. It also helps them lower the OEM prices of their internal drives which likely use the same setup. Also remember that Phison leak on LinkedIn a couple weeks back? Said specifically that the controller for the XSX SSD was built for CFx and NVMe 4.0.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they do it that way. Still think it will be done through various platforms for sure to maximize the attention obviously.

well I was thinking official branded ones like the 360 HDDs were.
you could later add USB drives to the 360 but in the beginning you had to use official ones that came in special cases. and that's how they could do it here. sell SSDs in proprietary cases that fit in this slot.
and they could license it out to other manufacturers that then need to provide SSDs that fit the specs.

It more than likely will be NVMe M.2. The systems will not be using SATA, so the smaller form factor and PCIe interface would be ideal. Especially for future proofing.

They may also have on board SSD/Controller solutions that are not replaceable, and provide M.2 NVMe slots for expansion.

Wow, that's the most stupid thing I have read this year. A flop is a flop. Exactly one floating point operation per second. That's what it means, you know. Just because operations can be more efficient doesn't make x of one architecture behave like x+4 on another. If you were to theoretically use 12 billion floating point operations on a 12 TF GCN architecture - there is no way to make them work on anything less than a 12 TF RDNA architecture. Because a TF is a TF.

I could reply to this in 100 different ways, but I will let you believe whatever you want. Be happy.

I am just glad that the mid gen refreshes in 2024 will bring us USB 4, which would then eliminate the necessity for CFx.

I agree, I don't see either MS or Sony allowing us to just throw in any old M.2 SSD into the next gen consoles since they are going to need to meet a certain performance spec going forward, so we are probably looking at proprietary SSD drives like you said. Just hoping they don't rake us over the coals like they love to do on accessory pricing...

For Sony's declarations of selling with losses I suspect they have a machine of about 500-600 (they call it premium) that they will sell for 399-499

Old news lol

edit: nevermind it's new!

Compact Flash Express = ....Universal Flash Storage?

I've seen some UFS cards of 1.1 GB/s - 2.6 GB/s, so I guess that could be good. But are there any reasons to go with a UFS slot instead of an M.2 slot?

Maybe it is an M.2 slot but over a UFS controller. As long as the internal custom storage solution is fast enough (and operates like AMD's SSG card line), I don't mind a somewhat slower secondary storage, especially if it's mainly for storage. But aren't M.2 drives more common than UFS/CFE cards? Or are there expectations UFS/CFE will supplant M.2 drives in the near future?

Nah, I don't think the insiders (most of them, anyway. Excusing a couple such as Tommy obviously) deserve any ridicule, assuming they were just reporting what they were told. End of the day they are messengers, not sources. And you can't control the nature of a source, only hope they are correct.

We've begun to share some of the incredible features you can expect from PlayStation 5, but we're not quite ready to fully unveil the next generation of PlayStation. Sign up below to be among the first to receive updates as we announce them, including news on the PS5 release date, PS5 price and the upcoming roster of PS5 launch games.

Who ever wrote this tried so hard to avoid using the word "soon" bravo.

If the Xbox is using CFx for its primary storage (2GB/s) it may explain the rumours of the PS5 having a faster drive?

Will be interesting to see if the PS5 storage can be expanded and how it works

No, CFx is an expansion of XQD and much faster than UFS.

Anything above $600 is product suicide.

There's room for a small group of early adopters at that price and nothing else. Not to mention consumer alienation if your launch at $600+ and then drop the price within a 12 month timeframe. Product suicide.

That's why I said a Pro version. Not everyone would buy that and that's fine.

You did? You got a post on that? All I see you do is complain about insiders.

Except for the fact that Sony supports CFx and will probably use the same thing for external storage. Neither console will reach the theoretical 2 GB/s in real life read speed anyway. You can be very lucky if they reach 500 to 600 MB/s.

ZhugeEX said it was just a joke, but this 'joke' points at something happening tomorrow.

TBH he said something along the lines of "imagine making a joke about ps5 reveal in fortnite and then that gets interpreted as ps5 reveal in a fortnight (14 days). stupid internet". And I suppose he is correct if you feel the need to repeat this tweet the day Sony puts up a web page saying they aren't ready to talk about PS5 and asking you to register for a newsletter.

It makes a lot of sense for Ms to offer proprietary drives seeing as the games will be built to use the speed of SSD.

But I'm going to be blunt here and say I'm really not looking forward to MS raping me with the prices... They jack them up so high I would never even entertain the idea...

Maybe things will change this time.

Maybe...

I love it

I appreciate how he made it look like Sony's own design philosophy/aesthetics; kind of reminds me of the Vita with the bubbly-ness of it all. Maybe the UI can register touch events in remote play if it doesn't already (never used it) and this bubbly look would welcome users to tap on the elements.

He recently leaked information halfjokingly, so it doesn't seem crazy to me to interpret that joke as a potential leak.

Does holiday season refer to christmas in english? Because the german Playstation 5 website says Christmas 2020. So it is a december release?

AMC? You mean it will be great for the first first episodes and then go to complete shit but they will refuse to kill it off?

awesome!

at least this explains why it's the size of Dales RV.

Previously, Kaz Hirai said why to go first in showing their then next gen consoles and few days later Sony announced, PlayStation meeting.

Now, I am not saying the same is going to repeat but I think Sony can still do reveal in February itself.

I can guarantee you that 95 % of the "insiders" out there know absolutely nothing and make shit up as they go. And I will call them out any chance I get. BTW the definition of an insider is that they are the source.

Holiday 2020 = second half of November, December 2020, first week of January 2021

I can see how a German could translate holiday to Weihnachten, I doubt the English website would say holiday if they meant Christmas, though. So just an uninformed German Sony employee.
