The info told me about the info drop on the 5th, which I alluded to with hints like Johnny 5 etc. That came to be. It was verified before posting it with @Mod of War and I posted some hints, but it came true. The original hints they gave me on spec was that it was 10.5ish with a target of 11.5, and that they were currently on the lower end of that value but hit some thermal issues. Now here's the thing. The original value? Is was pretty much spot on. 10.5ish with thermal issues could mean that's where it was at, at one points, before being lowered to 10.2. That's realistic to me.

It's my believe that the values were changed by my friend because at this point they knew I was posting it on Gaf, and they got the jitters or something. I don't know, I'm still trying to figure that part out, and don't want to instantly jump to him being a dick.

So sadly, that's all there is to it. No massive crime novel, no hidden tricks. I got fed good info, and bought it. But then that info changed and I used that as an update, and it burnt me.

There isn't much else to say. Sorry it never turned out right, but at least we had a laugh along the way and made the news.

But up until now at least, the focus has been on the GPU, where Microsoft has delivered 12 teraflops of compute performance via 3328 shaders allocated to 52 compute units (from 56 in total on silicon, four disabled to increase production yield) running at a sustained, locked 1825MHz. Once again, Microsoft stresses the point that frequencies are consistent on all machines, in all environments. There are no boost clocks with Xbox Series X.

Microsoft does not they are using a mid level phison pcie 4 dramless controller. That sony Sony SSD even if they own the controller will cost a ton to get super fast chips. They are competing with companies selling SSD at huge mark ups.

Xbox could be 7TF for all I care. Microsoft will only get my attention if they start to put out 3rd person single-player games. And I will play them on my PC.

They could've but it's apparent now a 2019 launch was planned at some point and a chip that big in a 2019 console would've probably pushed MSRP to $600 if not even slightly more, especially paired with the SSD.

I'd suspect they used the delayed time to up the clock and further push the SSD, since they focused so much on those two things. And I'm starting to think Shawn Layden's departure might've been due to the system delay and/or not being okay with the development of the project. Certainly something also to do thanks to disagreements with Jim Ryan.

I have zero doubts, 2019 PS5 was what they had been planning for years. The first leak which we got of Gonzalo had a GPU clocked at 1.8GHz if you recall. 36CUs@1.8GHz gets us to 8.2TF which is what Penello had been parroting all along about PS5, then you had that Reddit leak which freakishly got a lot of things right, and also mentioned an 8TF PS5 in Holiday 2019 at $399 but 'could' be delayed.

I simply think a year delay had a lot of implications for them, I don't know if 2019 PS5 would possess RT capability or not but one thing I'm certain is that would've been primarily based on RDNA1 architecture. If someone works the math, RDNA1 GPU with 36CUs@1.8GHz would produce a very high TDP. The same TDP which I reckon retail PS5 will achieve, the shift in architecture and performance per watt gains allowed them to push the clocks. A complete redesign for them was never an option, unless it meant another delay into 2021.

I just think their engineering team was dealt a bad hand, mainly budget constrains ($400 box) and the delay (simultaneous launch with Xbox).

End of the day, if you can see a big difference between those two consoles and the price point is similar. Sony is going be in a very bad spot for next gen.

How do we know what controller MSFT uses?
Sony obviously uses regular chips just heavily multichannel.

So spend that $500 on an XsX to enjoy next gen games now, continue to save another $500 over the next few years, then go out and buy the bad ass PS5 Pro.

You can bet your ass Sony won't make this same mistake twice with a mid-gen refresh.

Question is though, what will Microsoft answer with mid-way through this next generation with their own XsX Pro style machine.

Before this morning they have PS5 at Navi 21 505mm², 3840 shader cores, 13.06TF. Where were they getting this 13TF rumor? 🤭

Considering it just passed the certification, we are likely looking at the RDNA2-based full Navi die that will support ray tracing at a hardware level. This is the same GPU that will power the next-generation Playstation 5 and the Xbox as well (remember AMD designed Navi for the consoles, read more about that over here). In all likelihood, we are finally catching our first glimpse of "big" Navi. You might remember my exclusive published a year and a half back that predicted that the flagship Navi part won't land earlier than 2H 2019 or early 2020. Well, there you have it, folks, it's finally happening.

The presentation was shit, but it's funny how people are upset cause of the TF count. If the XSX would be at 11 or 10 too, no one would fuck around about sonys 10.

Incorrect; they already stressed that their clocks are stabilized at 1.825 GHz for the GPU and 3.6 (SMT) / 3.8 (no SMT) GHz for the CPU. There is no variable frequency with power supply to dynamically range the clocks on XSX's CPU and GPU.

There's a reason MS kept stressing that on Monday and I guess we know why now. The interesting part will be seeing how 1st-party and even some 3rd-party games take advantage of the peculiarities of each system. I'm actually glad they've both taken their own design philosophy approaches, it'll make game dev more interesting.

The craziest part is, if they at all could've predicted Covid-19 happening this year back in 2019, they probably could've set an internal delay for 2021 and redesigned the APU more fully given a target release for that year instead of 2020. But I think they didn't want to give MS a year's head-start hence 2020 was probably more eyed at by them.

Yeah, basically put this time the gamble didn't completely pay off vs. 2013. But, they've still netted an advantage in terms of the SSD storage at very least. It's not like the SSD will suddenly "change everything", but it will have some advantages and at least some 1st-party titles will make use of that as time goes on.

It's gonna be interesting seeing how the power in both systems are used especially once 1st-party content really rolls ahead.

It has been said that developers in general consider the PS5 to be more powerful than its rival - Jason Schreier even stated that some considered this to be the most revolutionary console of the past 20 years, but don't quote me on that because I may be misquoting him.

Since this was supposed to be shown at GDC, an event for developers and stakeholders, could any developers in this thread explain how the PS5 might have an edge over the Xbox, and what would merit Jason Schreier's and other developers' overall sentiment?

Xbox seems more powerful, and future-proof, to be quite honest.

Something that quite blew me away during Mark Cerny presenting PS5, is when you releaze how slow PS4 HDD is but SSM still manage to create an incredible game such as GOW with incredible graphics and no loading, like at all. I've say it before and i'll say it again, those guys are mad insane LOL All my respects to such passion and talent from them.

I bet my ass that I have a gaming PC so I don't need an Xbox SX, I just love playing on PlayStation since PS1, That's all.

Not sure of exactly what IO you're referring to, but IO is input/output and generally refers to how fast you can transfer data in/out of RAM from persistent storage such as an SSD. IO refers to all input/output though, including USB ports, wifi, ethernet, bluetooth.

On this forum or others, you got all this "look at me" cryptic messages, self bans, "I know people everyone. I used to work at Gamefan ya know" and any other showy one upsmanship kind of stuff.

Combine your $500 PS5 budget with another $1,000 and buy a new video card once they drop. And more for a newer CPU. And more for faster Ram.

Then in a few years spend $500 on a PS5 Pro that might even eclipse all the PC upgrades you bought this year.

Your money. :)

I don't really see too much legit disappointment about the TF of PS5. More just about the presentation in general. Everybody knows TF don't matter, it's just fun having bigger numbers, but everybody and their dog knows TF don't matter and everybody worth their salt has been shouting that from the rooftops for months/years.
 
I find it funny and so many PS fans are imploding and so many Xbox Fans are gloating, without understanding the specs, or only making a comparison about TF. People got the wrong idea Xbox one and Ps4 had disparity between the systems, it wasn't TF people, it was the ram bottlenecking. There is more metrics than just TF, and there are benefits to lower count CU with high Freq versus Higher count CU lower Freq. It seems Sony decided to go with the least bottleneck, highly optimized approach, but on the other hand we really don't know the performance benchmark between the two until they are put to the test. As far as price, people seem to be in the understanding that since sony has less TF, naturally it should have a 100 dollar lower price tag, without accounting for the highly specialized SSD and heavily modified APU with a 3D Audio processor. Now this isn't to say I don't have my own set of questions or concerns, first as I said the TF is not a problem and more than sufficient, but the high Freq is alarming, making me wonder about what type of cooling solution they are coming up with ( BTW this isn't a panic reaction from Sony, Xbox Fans, it is intentional, I just what to know the "how and what made them go with that specific solution"), caveat to that is the fact that the NVM SSD size matters, which tells me that the PS5 enclosure must be extremely tight so I don't know how the air circulation is gonna work on this thing. Lastly, the SSD speed is otherwordly and is a game changer in a different sense. If you are gonna compare it to the TF, my friend you are comparing apples and oranges, this SSD is going to allow us to play open world games in an immersion we have yet to experience, but this is where my concern lies. While the Ps5 has this high tech, the controller function of the specialized SSD concerns me when dealing with 3rd party solution to increase the storage. Cerny himself expressed that as 3rd party SSD upgrades into the new solutions each unit has to be tested individually, the impact on the game play could be drastic if they don't conform to Sony's specialized SSD standards. In the end I like both systems and plan on ordering both. Xbox seems to be approaching a more PC esch system, and Sony is going toward more Console RISC based approach. I think the pricing will be similar, but I do have some questions on both unit. I think both sides of gamers are winners and should be angry over spec difference, but rather let the developers and artist make there masterpieces.

They didn't say anything whether the clocks have impacts on the RT or not, they didn't clarify how the RT works no tech demo no anything, I mean the worst presentation I have ever seen.
