That bit at the end where she's flying through the map at ridiculous speeds with not load or texture pop in. SONY SSD BABY!!!!!
Yeah that crazy fast travel towards the end whilst the details are retained! this is the power of the PS5's SSD! They also said there was so much triangles/polygons that they couldn't fit it onto the RAM but the I/O was so fast they could just stream in all the data whilst the character was turning! THIS IS INSANE!

Tim Sweeney on the XSX:
As for Microsoft's Xbox Series X, Sweeney isn't saying the new Xbox won't be able to achieve something similar; both are using custom SSDs that promise blazing speeds. But he says Epic's strong relationship with Sony means the company is working more closely with the PlayStation creator than it does with Microsoft on this specific area.

UE 5 isn't exclusive to PS if that's what you're asking, That demo will run on XSX and PC as well, Sony is just partnered will Epic. They showed of UE4 as well

exactly the same condition ? it's the part I'm curious about.
it would be great to have 3 versions of it in the end.
this kind of demo is what i need atm to project myself into the future even if it's probably a little idealized / real game.

Leave it to Sony with games like Uncharted, Horizon Dawn, God of War to have cinematic motion, and camera angles, it almost looks like movies. This demo is like Tomb Raider + Uncharted from Epic a third party company.

My faith has been restored, Sony will deliver. This will hold me over until the June reveal but I will still not go on the hype train. Nope Nope Nope.

All those polygons are the result of the SSD removing a bottleneck. That level of density isn't possible in real-time with a HDD.

The idea that an SSD makes graphics better has been scoffed at for ages, but there are scenarios where it allows for more when the horsepower is available.. Time for some crow naysayers.

Yeah I noticed this when I was watching the tech demo, people really laughed at the idea of the SSD having any improvement on graphics!

Discord cliq blowing a fuse while reading this.

Take a lesson in marketing Microsoft!!! This is how things are being done properly. Know your audience, set the right expectations, and deliver. And the best thing: Articles like this one with Verge show that the PR Team has already lined up everything.

And now, let´s wait for tomorrow for the gameplay of Ghost of Tsushima do dominate the news once again. Good week.

"Hardware accelerated ray tracing will be supported in Unreal Engine 5, for example, but it's not a part of the PS5 tech demo revealed today. " Per DF article

That's pretty nuts. This GI must be super heavy on regular CUs

The SSD truly is insane..

But I know I'm a broken record but..

The game sizes.... that drive size...

I really hope sony offers at least a 1.5TB system day one for some extra cash.

Jump in tech has never come cheap so the transition for us consumers is going to be expensive. But, if it drives game development forward then I am all for it.

It was common sense, Cerny and his team wouldn't dedicate so much time and money around SSD and I/O if benefit were only faster loading times. The wars are gonna rage, this is only the beginning.

10 bucks say Dictator is going to whine about no use of RT in the demo, and how that's going to be super limited on PS5.

Aren't the polygons/triangles a function of the GPU?

What does that have to do with the SSD? I don't think the game models are the issue with loading data.. it's the texturing isn't it?

edit: I guess there's the model files themselves... derp

Just the confirmation SSD speeds did increase graphic fidelity/details.
But but but Cerny lied.
I agree. This is proof the quick SSD is a huge factor. The question now is weather or not XSX will be able to pull this off. I think it will, but let's drop this whole SSD doesn't improve image fidelity argument.

i notice that SSD didn't prevent the use of uncharted "going through a narrow gallery"...it's probably a choice here but please make this disapear now.

More like damage control.
Damage control by who? Sweeney for Xbox? Yeah sure "pie_tears_joy: You're delusional if you think that demo isn't able to run on a PC with a decent SSD or XSX.

"We don't have performance comparisons, we can't share performance comparisons, but this is a feature set you can count on with that generation, particularly micro polygon geometry with the Nanite technology and real-time global illumination with Lumen."

"Not just a little bit faster but a lot faster, so that you can bring in this geometry and display it, despite it not all fitting and memory, you know, taking advantage of next generation SSD architectures and everything else... Sony is pioneering here with the PlayStation 5 architecture. It's got a God-tier storage system which is pretty far ahead of PCs, bon(?) a high-end PC with an SSD and especially with NVMe, you get awesome performance too."

Per DF article, quotes from Tim
Not sure what bon means, maybe it's a typo of But? So he emphasizes the need for an nvme drive, which XSX has a very competent implementation of.

I absolutely LOVE that all Xbox fanatics are saying "this doesn't look that good" and "It's not running in real time", or better, "it's bullshit".

At the same time, I love that a lot of people have been proven right regarding the capabilities of the SSD, and remember, the PS5 SSD is twice as fast than the Xbox Series X. Listen to what they are talking about streaming assets and triangles, and see how double will allow for more and better graphical and gameplay feats.

I wonder if this is the bespoke raytracing solution that was mooted for PS5? Possibly the console was built to take advantage of this.

EDIT: (Just listening to DF...)

there's a reason they chose the PS5 to show this game off, that amazing fast travel sequence towards the end will not be possible on Series X or high end PC's, if it is you'll see a bogged down version with less details.

That or the marketing deals and partnership as shown with Fortnite.

He himself say the game will run well with a PC with an SSD, and especialy so with NVMe. which, hey, XSX has

I noticed the youtube goes to 4K. Gonna check it out on the OLED in a bit.

Youtube is terrible with compression, especially at high resolutions. Better than a phone, but still definitely not the real thing.

I hope some outlet gives a download option for the original video sent to press by Epic.
