"Play a back catalog of supported PS4 games"
What exactly was removed?
Guys, what do you think about the last update in the PS5 page and the removal of the backward compatibility stand... Do you think there is something to fear for?

See the OP screenshot. What exactly was removed?
It's the company's official website. I'd take it with a grain of salt if it came from an insider or someone else, but man... this is really Sony shooting themselves in the feet.I'm taking it with a grain of salt, I am sure it is still going to have BC so no real worries.
Oh yeah the weird "with system update" thing."Play a back catalog of supported PS4 games"
They probably just want to focus on what's new and keep it simpleGuys, what do you think about the last update in the PS5 page and the removal of the backward compatibility stand... Do you think there is something to fear for?

Software decompression will use CPU like on PC, not hardware decompression block.Still unpacks through the I/O unit though right?
BC is there but they need to stop to talk about BC and start to put fire with new games.Guys, what do you think about the last update in the PS5 page and the removal of the backward compatibility stand... Do you think there is something to fear for?

Yes, every game looks better on it. Have you seen RDR2 running on it? It's amazing. But again, we'll see in a couple of weeks.Yeah that is not a theory just look your Xbox one X.
Hellblade 2. If that was real-time graphics it was pretty impressive. You have splash screens, messages, contacting servers, safety pages, all sorts of crap of course.
But we have had 2 demos from Ps5, Spiderman and UE5
We have had 2 demos from MS, State of decay and fast resume demos (5 or 6 games ?).
There is a gulf so far more than 2 x the bandwidth specs, add in latency and difference is massive (so far).
Balls in MS court.
Compression takes a very long time (much longer than decompression), therefore I'm certain quick resume game data is not compressed.
Quick resume demo on YT shows Xbox One X games build to run on 12 GB RAM (9.5 GB game data + 2.5 GB for system data), not 5 GB. 5 seconds for 12 GB transfer correspond exactly with XSX SSD RAW speed and proves there are no SSD bottlenecks. Games build with XSX hardware in mind will load even faster, because BCpack (4.8-6 GB/s) will fill 13.5 GB in around 2.5-3 seconds. It will be awesome speed, but of course PS5 will move data even faster (9-20 GB/s) and load entire game in about one second.

Or perhaps they removed the reference to ps4 only because they figured out how to support ps3 and beyond but haven't announced it yet
Also maybe they are trying to sell you TLOU 2 and Ghost of Tsushima and dont want you to think you can just wait for the new system. They are in a business to make money afterall
Errr.. they've already discussed BC on PS5 though. Why would that particular sentence matter to TLOU2 and GoT compared to the fact Cerny already talked about BC?Also maybe they are trying to sell you TLOU 2 and Ghost of Tsushima and dont want you to think you can just wait for the new system. I have curiosity about how XSX will just increment the framerate for all the games if some games has attachedThat effects CPU time not frequency.
It does not do anything remotely like downclocking does. I have my doubts that would be useful for BC in the same way as matching clocks is...
(I could be wrong though, but I thought it was the frequency that was important to some games as they expect a given piece of code to execute in an exacting amount of time, not get a certain amount of threads scheduled per second which is what I believe HperV does.)

I cann neitherrr confirmmm norrrr denyyy thatttgaf turned you into a cat????
I believe games like that generally lock framerates though; I think that's why they mention some games can be doubled from 30 to 60 selectively. If they can double the locked framerate and somehow get the game to do those calculations based on the doubled framerate, the game would work fine.I have curiosity about how XSX will just increment the framerate for all the games if some games has attached
many of his logic and animations to the framerate, I know is not the best practice but happens a lot.
Thast's oposite of what I said. They not only require decompresion, but it can't use hardware, because way game data have to be decompressed is hardcoded into game itself. So you're saying BC games don't require decompression?
Looks like BC could not be available on launchGuys, what do you think about the last update in the PS5 page and the removal of the backward compatibility stand... Do you think there is something to fear for?

BC
BC is there but they need to stop to talk about BC and start to put fire with new games.
Like another poster said read the actual article. It is about bc, not new games.Eh does really Microsoft or anyone else other than Sony know if/when/to what extent the PS5 will downclock or boost? Isn't it really, really silly and desperate to ridicule details about a console that is not yet released, based on assumptions and rumors with no real facts or real-life examples?
At least the "used game thing" really was a thing, back in the days.
I believe there is a day one firmware update where all features are unblocked. With system update, so why would Sony say you have to update your Ps5 to latest firm ware ?
I can only think that maybe because they are still optimising BC......and there are some ps5 that are already in boxes and have been made using an OS that is already outdated ? Or maybe you have to download some minor patch details for each game by connecting to servers.
I guess each game needs checking and some optimising at least.
Maybe they decided that statement might confuse people currently. BEFORE they have more chances to talk about the PS5.With system update, so why would Sony say you have to update your Ps5 to latest firm ware ?

I mean.. the PS5 is going to have a day one patch regardless.. I don't know why they'd need to be so specific about BC.With system update, so why would Sony say you have to update your Ps5 to latest firm ware ?

Yes, I know it's about BC. Which we know very little about, regarding PS5. But whatever.Like another poster said read the actual article. It is about bc, not new games.

The code isn't recompiled. There are some articles about it but I don't know them off hand.Aren't a lot of 360 games recompiled for X86? As in you bollock your 360 disk in and it downloads a patch?
That would be running natively rather than emulated, and is much easier on the CPU, and much better full-stop.
Guys no one explained . Whats the most compatible ever?
Doesn't even make sense

Exactly. That's why I said it's Sony shooting themselves in the feet: BC it's one of the key features that they should advertise just as much as everything else as a part of their transition plan. They have to lure the 100M PS4 users (most of them casuals) to become 100M PS5 users. The core base will get the PS5 anyway (which are something like 30-40M or so), but I wouldn't be so sure about the rest.having BC is part of their game plan to transition everyone to the next gen so no need to read into it.
Come on. Both companies have thrown crap around. Xbox 1.5 ring a bell. For example I have two Xbox 360 just in case the old one dies XD
Is shit doesn't matter who said it, specially from a company who love to say everything is love and they don't considered Sony as its competition (when is Sony and Nintendo which can say that).
That is all my impartial friend.
Maybe it won't be ready for launch so they don't want to promise something until they can deliver.I'm taking it with a grain of salt, I am sure it is still going to have BC so no real worries.
Errr.. they've already discussed BC on PS5 though. Why would that particular sentence matter to TLOU2 and GoT compared to the fact Cerny already talked about BC?
And why is everyone ignoring the weird "with system update" thing?
That seems like the thing to note to me.
Knowing I can play TLOU2 and GoT on PS5 will actually guarantee a purchase from me not the other way around lol

After giving it a little bit more thought, there is something i just don't like in the way that Microsoft is conducting their business.
A while back Microsoft were telling everyone that Sony were not their competition.
We keep getting shitty twitter comments or cheap jabs from people lately associated with Microsoft always trying to downplay or throw shade in the PlayStation's direction of late.
Microsoft said they are confident in their machine and their games so why not just let that do the talking instead of the constant smear campaign they are trying to run.
Things like Phil the other day with the unreal engine bit, trying to squeeze abit of positive pr out, it feels so desperate.
I keep going back to people like Dealer and colteastwood and the way they act and the way guests talk on their podcast. They have Microsoft executives on that show and that type of fratboy behavior is now seemly rubbing of on the way Microsft conduct themselves.
You sleep with dogs you get fleas is the expression i believe.
Is this really how Phil Spencer wants his gaming division to be run.
I do want to buy an xbox console to go alongside my ps5 but this kinda of shit is starting to really put me off.
Of late, whenever i see something about xbox, i am starting to feel like i need to go and take a shower.
They really need to be better than the way they are acting.
Was in engine running to 24 frames also below to 4k, if a tech demo running in a some device is like "yeah maybe in the future a game can looks like that"Hellblade 2. If that was real-time graphics it was pretty impressive.
I get that BC has already been talked about but most of those that are goign to buy these games arent as vigilent as Gaffers and hardcaore gamers are about the latest info on next gen and you dont wan tto tank any sales
I dont think it would hurt ps5 sales I just think they dont want to hurt the games ps4 launch sales with those who are willing to wait out a possible PS5 version so just be vague about it for now and clarify it at a later date
This screams desperation. "Please love me. I will be whoever you want me to be."Guys no one explained . Whats the most compatible ever?

No problemThey have a built in CELL CPU for PS3 BC an Raytracing.
And they just don't want to tell you about that CELL inside...
So they have to talk about BC later.
And yes, I have no sources for that.
Xbox One X patches DL automatically on Xbox One X, and I have no reason to think it's different on XSX. Also I expect XSX must load entire 12 GB RAM (not just 9.5 GB game data) from quick resume save state. MS is emulating BC games, not running them natively.Nope those games chosen were current games that run on 5 GB RAM or 8 GB if we think its got Xb1X texture enhancements (and thats pushing it).
So 5 seconds.,,,, what is 8/5 ? or 5/5 as there was 6 last gen games shown.
A 5 GB RAM game should be 2 seconds if the raw speed was really 2.4 without any obstructions, but there are other latency things arent there,,,,?
Did you look at the resume games ? Did they all have extra 4K textures ? mmmm
I saw nobody controlling movement, its called a trailer. Unless I see someone controlling the character from the players viewpoint,,,,,,its a trailer.
We want to see NO TRAILERS otherwise its a game that is likely long way a way - same goes for Sony, .....
Trailer says here is a game announcement for 2 years time..fine but I dont get excited .....at all.

Why has this picture become a ''thing''? Context? I think Dictator is great in what he does.
