Dusk Golem made a bit of a fool of himself in that thread. The real narrative is that a game developed on PC run better out of the box on an XSX dev kit compared to a PS5 dev kit.

That is as expected since the XSX is basically a console PC while the PS5 has more customisations and a different API.

I've worked on AAA games where one version doesn't even boot past the title screen for a month or the game runs at 5 fps and all of that that was a perfectly normal part of the dev process since sometimes shit doesn't work properly until the proper code is built to support it.

That's not to say that the game won't run better on Series X when it releases, it very well could (will likely run at higher resolution at the very least) but come on man - what you said at first and what you just said now clearly don't match up with each other."

Probably, yes. You've got to go on the source of the information, not necessarily the information itself. I struggle to recall when Dusk Golem has been on the money. All the Silent Hill stuff was certainly inaccurate. I'll listen to what an insider has to say based on their track record. Foxy's 750 million rumour is probably a load of shit as well, given his track record. It's always about the person's track record.

He's more than likely talking about the PS4 Pro version that was being play tested. Hence the 1080p mention. That tells me his source either knows or is someone who works at a Capcom QA department.

Maybe it was a mix up with the pro test version. I mean why would the PS5 version be 1080P anyway?. And even though i DO think XSX will show some advantages in multiplatform games, the difference in power is nowhere big enough to have a game run flawless at 4k/60 on XSX, but struggle to hit 1080p/60 on PS5 lol.

And best to wait is not a good idea. Sony wants as many people buying a PS5 as soon as possible best way to do that is besides having all your first party devs going full steam is to use your massive profits from current gen to buy some third party exclusives, full or partial games.

You can't use the same money on new games since those would be a few years out, you want something now.

the only series (3rd party) I still associate with Xbox is Ninja Gaiden. Yep, I know it went full multi, but there is still a charm for it being ressurected on the original Xbox. Ninja Gaiden Black is a huge and it will always be a classic.

Team Ninja is already developing NiOh series exclusively for playstation consoles. Someone can correct me but it seems this game is much bigger than Ninja Gaiden

I don't know if the timed exclusive rumors are real or not. But one big thing with timed exclusivity is that you need to compensate the studio for expected lost sales on the competing platform.

With Xbox "not caring if you buy a Series X or not", this is basically open declaration that Series X sales could be so low, Sony could ask for launch exclusivity, while paying far LESS for the privilege.

Or in other words, by Xbox abandoning the idea of console sales mattering, they also lowered the price Sony needed to pay to get timed exclusivity. While at the same time, massively increase the costs for Xbox to retaliate.

Sony just might have bought timed exclusivity of titles that were once too expensive this gen, but was made affordable due to Xbox's decision to go all in Gamepass.

Every action has consequences. Xbox might not realize what their decision are leading them.

RE8 started it's development as a cross-gen title, it's a last-gen game being updated with few bells and whistles to look next-gen. It showed from the trailer itself. Game optimization occurs in last phase of game-development, so it'll likely be sorted. The trailer looked framey, but it's not due to the hardware. It pushed much more graphically intensive visuals than RE8. Another Capcom project in Pragmata being a prime example, the trailer ran at 4K/60, it also had most intensive use of RT out of all games in the event as pointed out by DF.

As for Dusk, he's reliable for Capcom related news. But, all the stuff about MS willing to lose more money than Sony on consoles/the difference in power being staggering should be taken with a grain of salt. He was quick to backtrack on "multiplatforms will run significantly better on Xbox X". For, any logical person, it's expected that Series X will push more resolution/more fidelity. It comes with in-built advantage in the hardware on GPU side as well as bandwidth. But, using one outlier of a game (in RE8) as an example to think, that's how multi-plats are expected to run in next-gen is silly.

TLDR; RE8 is under-going performance issues on PS5 dev-kit, multi-platforms are expected run better on Series X. Hardly earth-shattering news, but I guess discourse in coming days and weeks will tell otherwise.

So bad news guys, just heard from my sources that PS5 can't run any games. None. Capcom, you know, they tried, just kept trying all the games, but none of them could run. Even at 1080p. Cerny was lying when we saw all those games running smoothly on PS5, turns out that was just Xbox footage. Big leak right here, no doubt. Hard for me to come to terms with it all too... cause obviously I'm fucking around. Thankfully, the Xbox will have all the games now, all exclusives, even at 4K 120 FPS, and delivered so smartly. It looks like the engine is going haywire on the hardware. Once they taylor their engine for the way the PS5 works with variable frequencies and power consumption, it should run very well. I don't think this "advantage" of XSX will last (if it has ever existed) though, PS5 is easy to develop for and from the June event we can see that third parties and indies are doing fine with the hardware. This is just Capcom lagging behind.

Nevermind the astronomic costs of research and development along with the bills of materials & the distribution costs of the console itself....just using basic common sense will show that MS will have a higher margin in revenue from a consumer using an Xbox than anything else.

Valve is not giving MS an extra cut if someone bought Call of Duty on PC instead of an Xbox. Xbox Live Gold doesn't work on a platform that's already providing online gaming for free. There is nowhere else MS can make a 30% cut on all third party sales but an Xbox.

It sounds like an engine problem independent of usual performance issues if it really did have trouble in 1080p. Something they'd figure out by launch; which DG says himself in his post.

I'm with you on it being believable; but it's also not something to over-react to. Of course nobody on "either side" can actually seem to just have a conversation about these things. Xbox fanboys will claim the sky is falling and Sony fanboys will call it lies. The truth is it could be true and absolutely no big deal.. so it's just pointless anyways lol

Of course it will have the advantage, it has more compute. But again, it'll be fun to see which console performs better as they have different philosophies on tackling power consumption and heat dissipation. XSX holds the same paradigm that Cerny tried to evade with the PS5.
