Wouldn't surprise me if they were still a part of it somehow either. Decisions to pull out were made before this year and Covid-19 so might make sense to change that decision. Or again, just hold a parallel event. I'm wondering if the October issue of Wired might have another article and they release a video and/or blog as well once that magazine is out in public? I thought that Wired had said they were going to have another article with more information after that last one?

game is already massive and extremely detailed for what it is.
just think that it already contains 37.000 airports, let alone the cities and basically the entire planet.
and you can add as much more precision as your heart desires.

Most of this "massive" is just map 3D reconstruction, that many online maps did way before FS.
And it's hard to say that FS do it in very advanced matter, it pretty much the same, but now with textures - maps reconstructed in simplified matter, most of the building are simple rectangular blocks with simple textures that don't look very good up close.
It simply because FS did not create this "massive world", they just visualize existing maps, done by others, and details depends on source material that FS managed to obtain.

For now I can think in two cases:

1)Less impact in you performance while is use MSAA or something similar
2)Probably Sony wants this for its VR, they will probably use two 1440p screens to 120 hz, this are a lot pixels to draw per second

The thing with this usually as I understand the Texture fill rate,Shader units are bigger bottlenecks but of course
as many things in a GPU, any component can become a bottleneck for some specific kind of scene, game, engine,
etc so if full of dependencies.

Flight sim only looks good far away, a bit like a nextflix streaming game for landscapes.

The best looking open world game pun intended to date. the game streams 2 + petrabytes of data mapping the whole green earth with plane models that rival GT and Forza from the GD cloud
Scale,model, and ambition this is the most next gen things we've seen thus far.
But by all means zoom in and troll the texture res of buildings in a flight sim game

This is amazing and means that if one of my loved ones or best friends take a plane somewhere I can fly alongside them the entire route and see the weather they are experiencing in real-time with them. The fact the game has ADS-B data integration is amazing. I love the fact I can just fly over to any airport and see the real-time air traffic. As a prior-service US Airman, who worked exclusively with radar systems I think this alone will sell me on the game as everything else is just a gorgeous cherry on top.

And there are also amazing weather effects.

Best at 1000 feet for a landscape on PC with 64 GB RAM, rubbish up close. Totally irrelevant to all other games. This is not zoomed in its the cockpit view FFS.

Not seen on Xbox. Its a good flight sim, but thinking this is good graphics for gaming is hilarious.

2080ti with huge RAM for streaming (64 GB) looks good at distance. Thats it. LOL

I get it. You have no normal games so you're happy about sim in which any of you will get bored after one flight. BUT COMMON it only looks good when you're high ( like in game, not IRL).

And saying that I will be on launch faster than Sony games ? Common Sony has whole generation of GOTY contender games just waiting for PS5 newcomers.
What fancy games xbox had this gen? I've only liked quantum break so far.

According to Alex. It's a flight sim FFS. An impressive flight sim nothing against it, but generational leap it is NOT. The same guys at Digital Foundry that said driving sims always look good, because well, they're driving sims, are now pushing flight sims as the pinnacle of graphics.

If we desperately want to find excuses will will always find an excuse - "it's a corridor shooter", "it's a sports game", it's a racing title", "it's a scripted cinematic game", "it's full of QTE", and so on, like how hard is it to just accept what we are looking at and simply tell if it's good looking or not?

You cannot use this method on any other game, its clear from pics. Its a game to enjoy Vistas from the air.

I think you are misinterpreting that quote. They mean that work to optimise for the X1 can also be applied to and benefits the PC version. They even state in that same article...

I'm really looking forward the XBox version and discussion of the game here is perfectly fine. It's a fantastic technical achievement. Unfortunately it's also the perfect "platform war" game because it is so easy to make it look fantastic or poor and cherry pick your examples to back-up your pre-decided argument. What it does and how it does it is unprecedented for this type of game and puts the focus on what players what from the game. That should be celebrated and lauded regardless of whether your house looks like it has cars driving through it or whether Edinburgh castle has been turned in to offices.
