Can someone please post the official statement where Sony says they are ramping up PS5 production to 10 million units? That number keeps getting thrown around on this site and i do remember reading it but don't remember ever seeing official confirmation.

This is starting to feel like US is getting priority with staggered release to the rest of the world (Maybe US and Japan priority?) as more units become available.

Very serious and sober report.

PS4 was released first in USA & Canada. Jimmy Sony has said they want 1 global PS5 launch, but covid might have constrained supply so they might need to prioritize their biggest market (USA).

I could see USA getting just pre-orders first, or also get shipments first, or neither and it will all launch worldwide. Idk.

Hate to say, but if Covid's a factor, it might be the US with the potential delays or constrained supply, given the scale of the disease in America compared to a lot of Sony's other major markets. But, as you say, none of us know at the moment. I'm still hoping for a global same day release.

Bommy Night, marvellous. The smell of burning turnips, drawers full of bent cutlery...

You know all the Americans in here are going to think you're serious, don't you? Bonfire Night - forever known as the night the British burn turnips. All thanks to Handy Fake Handy Fake

Don't know if it counts as official, but if you google it, every single gaming website has a story confirming this.

Here in the northeast we never had those posh pumpkins man, we carved turnips. Have you ever tried to hollow out a turnip with cutlery? The smell of burning turnip is synonymous with my childhood.:messenger_beaming:

EDIT: I realise in my childish excitement I have made an error.

We burn people on Bonfire Night.

COD has cross gen MP? Why? Imagine playing a MP with 60FPS vs 120 FPS, that's not fair. What about this super fast loading but then your waiting for previous gen console players to enter lobby/game?

I like my MP games on console as its more fair when compared to PC, less hardware variance and closes system (hack's and mods etc)
Only a handful of nerds will play at 120, wouldn't worry to much. The loading is a shame, hope there is a robust playground for testing guns, teabagging etc for early loaders.

It would be nice to have a even playing field but when it comes to online competitive games nothing can ever be perfect. Hell people with good internet vs bad vs wireless vs wired is a huge difference in online games. I have no problem with playing against people on pc with a console, I can usually hold my own its the hacking that makes me dislike the PC vs Console matchmaking.

I don't think the new Call of Duty has confirmed cross-gen multiplayer.

The PS4 Store listing for Call of Duty Cold War Cross Gen Bundle has 2 different mutiplayer listings in the fine print saying 2-20 players and 2-40 players. The PS4 only listing just says 2-20 players. Seems like next gen has 2x player count.

Could that mean next-gen COD has its own multiplayer servers with twice as many players and a 120 Hz mode?

I met the Bishop of Bath and Wells once, the temptation to ask him if he'd eaten any babies recently was huge :D

Oh god. That's hilarious. You should have got him to hold a poker and scream "Your bottom will wish it had never been born!"

A lot of the 80's comedies would definitely not get made today.
I doubt people would understand the slapstick pisstake of 'The Young One's' these days.

Comedy is pretty much dead in the UK on TV now. It's a tragedy.

I don't think Sony officially announced anything, but according to Bloomberg they were ramping production to 9-10 million units.

I guess this could theoretically be interpreted as cross gen MP?

Yeah, and that's a shame. You would think people are on the side of Microsoft on this. Because if Microsoft would've been able to make this happen, the same would happen for Sony, so all gamers would benefit from it.
Oddly man I don't mind paying an extra $10 for the extra work done for new versions. People spend stupidly on other things but then trip over $10 dollars. We have "got" to stop mistaking propaganda or desperation as pro consumer. I believe MS is just trying to coat tail off of Sony's success in there pro consumer marketing of the past. It's the biggest desperation move that frankly I'm sad to see. My best friend of 12 years works at Microsoft marketing solutions and although he doesn't work for Xbox, he laughs that people think MS is pro consumer. Sony is no better but atleast I get to keep the awesome nostalgia of generations. Im willing to pay for better quality.
Btw you are awesome on here and always add to the gaf. I've seen you get passionate but pretty fair.

So the PS4 Store page for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare says:

"Online multiplayer (2-20 players). A paid-for PlayStation Plus membership is required."

But the PS4 Store page for Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War Cross Gen Version says:

"Online multiplayer (2-20 players)." .... Thats it. It does not say a PS Plus account is required.

It then also says below:

"Online multiplayer (2-40 players). A paid-for PlayStation Plus membership is required."

But it says the PS4 version is only 2-20 players. So the part that says 2-40 players & PS Plus required is for PS5. The page is cross gen bundle after all, it has to list details for both versions.

So did Activision/Sony decide Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War multiplayer will not require PS Plus just for PS4?

Two sources were reporting this.

Meanwhile Sony, the world's No. 2 video game console maker after Nintendo by shipments, has also raised production orders for its upcoming PlayStation 5 to around 9 million units, from the roughly 6 million units it had planned in spring, sources familiar with the matter said. The PlayStation 5 is the first completely new generation of the console in seven years, after the Japanese company launched the PlayStation 4 in 2013 and an upgrade in 2016.

Sony Corp. is roughly doubling its PlayStation 5 production to 10 million units this year as it sees the prolonged effects of the Covid-19 pandemic boosting demand for gaming, according to people familiar with its plans.

Also I found this part interesting.

Sony began PS5 mass production in June and, under the latest plan, expects to assemble 5 million units by the end of September and another 5 million between October and December. A large portion of the latter tranche would turn into stock for 2021 due to the logistical delay. Sony could try to use air cargo for faster delivery, as it did in 2013 around the launch of the PlayStation 4, though airlines are running vastly reduced schedules due to Covid-19 and Sony's ability to reserve flights would be limited.

As you can see you can produce 10 million units in that time period but with shipping problems it can delay sales by quite a bit. So those 10 will probably end up getting sold much later.

From the sounds of all the shipping issues it appears that the competition could suffer them as well so don't be surprised if there's also a shortage of XSXs this holiday season as well. Unless the demand is extremely low or the supply extremely high.

Problem is that every wannabe joker thinks they're funny and we get cretins like Dapper Laughs. Barely anyone has actual comedic timing much, because 'funny' is just 'let's prank people, bro' which Trigger Happy TV was doing 20 years ago.
At least the stand up scene is still decent. Live at the Apollo shows that British comedy isn't truly dead, just not really on TV anymore.

Ahh ok, so it indeed is just a rumor. Crap.

It is sad, sad times we live in.

I miss programs like allo allo, married with children, delboy and rodders.

Used to watch really old stuff back in the day, mind your language and are you being served.

People can't take jokes anymore. Everything is offensive.

Do like Malcolm in the middle, for a modern comedy.

Hi guys, first post here so go easy on me. I've been looking around on the ps5 official website, and while looking around i got a sense of a premium product ( how they describe the console and how web page is presented overall) I quickly associated that feeling to high price, i don't know if i'm the only one who felt like that while on the website...

I know there was an interview a couple of weeks ago where Jim Ryan stated that the PS5 was not necessarily going to be cheap but was going to "emphasize value as opposed to price". So maybe the preorders starting earlier in the US is a sign of supply constraints and not because of a cheap price and not having enough units to meet demand ?

Anyhow, just my two cents and expressing myself for the first time here :) .

Yeah probably is. Hmm. Interesting. Maybe next-gen will have its own exclusive mode or two?
Maybe there'll be some kind of "legacy MP mode" on next gen consoles where you can play with friends on PS4 and Xbox One with a maximum of 20 players and then there's the next gen MP with up to 40 players?
It's strange. Guess we'll find out on September 9th when they'll reveal the MP.

He thought the PS3 was shit for developers, which wasn't really a lie. Everyone knew the cell processor was extremely powerful, but annoying to develop for. He's still an industry professional with an amazing track record.
When he has PS5 devkits I can start to listen to what he says.

He says 'Modern Comedy'
Malcolm in the Middle finished in 2006... 😂

Referring to the upgrade fee, I agree $70 is the new gen standard.

Can't wait for Diablo 4, its one of my big-time favorite games awaits.

Bet its 70+ quid, full-on microtransaction shop, multiple character packs every year, 20 bucks a pop.

fuck you Activision.

I think it will still require Plus, but any F2P part of the MP wouldn't. It's not new having paid games with non-Plus MP, but I don't think Sony would drop Plus requirements for CoD.

Well even with an increase in supply there can still be extreme shortages due to how popular the console is.

Well it's multifaceted problem. There will be a shortage of consoles for the first month or two. Then You stack on top of it PS5 will have a world wide launch within a month of US release. PS brand sells better world wide then Xbox. Then you add Covid-19 Shipping Issues on top of that.

That's also true. But I keep reading reports on how Covid is causing the demand to shoot up and it does seem possible that they increased production due to that. I'm still expecting a shortage of consoles with both systems though unless demand for one of them just collapses for some reason.

When they first started to get ready to run production. There was supply problem. Which Sony has fixed. Even though they fixed that problem. It still causes them to run some what behind. Then Covid-19 added to it. I still think Sony should still be able to get out 4 Million Consoles out by then end of 2020.

Yes a shortage cause more demand. So a shortage of consoles on shelves drives up demand. Because it makes people want it more. That Shortage in part created by Covid-19.

Kind of strange how they don't have a shortage of components anymore and how some were claiming that the yields were messed up. I just wasn't expecting them to just increase production this way which is why I still have some doubts.

But I noticed you say you predict initial sales of 4 million for the platform but then said earlier that Sony would still sell the most.

What do you think the competitions sales are going to be like especially after losing Halo Infinite?

But if that report is accurate, Sony wants to sell 10 million PS5s in the same time period that they sold 7.5 million PS4s.

So either that report is false, or Sony is overestimating demand, or the PS5 price is lower than I think it is.
According to Bloomberg they went from wanting 6 million by the end of March 2021 to 10 million.

Nobody thinks the PS5 is more powerful. This argument needs to die, because it's bullshot.

Also, Gears 5 is not a next-gen game. And we haven't seen any Next Gen games running on the Series X.
Dodrake your first sentence is incorrect! I for one KNOW the PS5 is more powerful than the XSX, and I'm not alone

Don't fall for the trap of just taking the spec sheet Peak TFlops as representative of what the 'true usable' power is!

It is presumptuous to make assertions now which is more powerful until we see the games running on both consoles. But sod it, I'm more than confident PS5 will be noticeably more powerful than the XSX. There are too many technical advances on the PS5 that leaves us no doubt!

It could be a tiered release. With some countries getting it in November and others in December. They are still saying 2020 btw.

Food for thought. They always said it would be the end of 2020 do they can play around with the dates a little before announcing anything officially. If the delay goes beyond 2020 they will definitely announce that via PlayStation Blog or an official press release. And they won't take long to announce it because stores need to know about the delay ahead of time.
Pretty sure it was known to be a global release, didn't someone high up at Sony confirmed it months ago? Unless I'm pulling a Mandela here...

I honestly believe most people who was going to buy an Xbox Series X will still buy one. I think the delay of Halo Infinite will hurt Xbox for the people who was on the fence or was buying one for Halo Infinite. I can't predict Xbox Sales. Because I feel they could get a boost in sales if the PS5 World Wide shortage lasts over 3 or more Months.
