With the Tempest Engine potentially eating up 20gb/s of memory bandwidth, and with Sony pushing the 3D Audio aspect of the architecture... What odds would you put on Sony changing the memory bandwidth or adding additional RAM to keep developers happy following the Road to PS5 event in March. 🤔

A new meme is born.

So it was a cake.....The only good thing to come out of this was the panic, confusion and hint of jealousy from Geoff, Zhuge, Gematsu and even Twitch. I dare not look to see the crap that lady is getting for pulling that stunt, though.

All I know is Andy was damn wrong. Ellis knew the truth.

It's not eating upto 20% of memory bandwidth its eating up 20gb/s of bandwidth

So, I woke up this morning to find that there's been some stealth advertising overnight for a 13 year old first person puzzle game?

The cake is a lie.

All Audio will eat bandwidth, and as long as the GPU or CPU L2 level caches are not starved its all about balance,

For the GPU and simple, its SSD > Memory > L2 Cache > L1 Cache > L0 shader

In those 4 steps, each one gets faster and faster until at the business end and what will bottleneck is unknown to people like us.

On XSX we are told L2 is increased to 5 MB, and L1 feeds the shader array L0 of 14 CU.

On Ps5 we dont know yet, but all caches will be 20 % faster (clock rate) and L1 will feed a shader array of 10 CU.

You cant just look at Bandwidth of 1 item, and its the end result of how all of it works in a game is whats important. For your info, here is the RDNA1 bandwidths...

Thats why clock is also important and the limit where clocks are impacted by logic propagation.Ps5 will have some tastey L2 to L0 bandwidths....To be discussed on teardown and RDAN2 white paper when we get it.

Idk about the odds, but I've said this before and I'll say it again, a memory bandwidth upgrade to 512 GB/s from 448 GB/s while keeping the bus width the same would be the most logical upgrade they can make to the hardware. 448 GB/s felt "just about enough" for 36 CUs but then I was little concerned about it after Cerny talked about how the Tempest Engine can consume up to 20 GB/s during computation.

512 GB/s of bandwidth I assume would be more than enough for the system overall which includes handling TE usage. Otherwise I think everything else is perfect and the hardware is very balanced while also being incredibly powerful at the same time.

Read my post above, 448 was also 5700 RDNA1 and we know RDNA2 will compress stuff more again. Sony will have done their engineering and analysis and worked out what is best to feed those 36 CU as fast as possible with a 2.23 GHz clock.

The important performance parameter may not be Memory bandwidth, it could be L1 bandwidth to feed the CUs, we dont know. Sony certianly seem focused on the speed of the L2 to L0.....and bandwidths in the shader array.

Look at how slow and poor GCN was at internal bandwidths, along with its IPC and arrangement why it was poor. All te memory bandwidth in the world for VEGA would stall on cache bandwidths anyway...

Lets wait for a teardown. The ps5 performance shown so far suggests Sony have made some correct choices.

The whole waiting for the launch date is tiresome. Not bothered about price as I can afford, but I appreciate people want to know so they can save and plan ahead.

It is a good sign that Sony are doing the bite sized PS5 adverts - could mean we wil get concrete details soon.

If it's not today then probably early next month. A very short announcement to release Switch style. That gives them about 40+ days. They could launch on the US and Canada then the rest of the world. It make sense as the longer they wait the more stable Covid19 situation gets + force Microsoft to go first. Chicken game taken to a new level.

In their management board report released recently, it is still on track for late 2020.

"The release of Cyberpunk 2077 and the final phase of the attendant marketing campaign are both scheduled for the fourth quarter of the year,"

Yeah, The Witcher 3 Next Gen version is coming some time in 2021, so they'd have to delay Cyberpunk to late 2021 for this to "sweeten the deal" and that'd be extremely unrealistic.

Separate trophy list is my hope
Flawless 4K60 with everything Ultra is my expectation

We're working on the next generation edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt!

Developed to take advantage of the most powerful gaming hardware, the next-gen edition of the game will feature a range of visual and technical improvements — including ray tracing and faster loading times — across the base game, both expansions, and all extra content.

See, Activision, Take Two and 505? This is how it's done.

Keep in mind with the original game + both expansions, this a looooooooong RPG. Not sport or a short action game yet still upgraded for free. So next time anyone bring the "but development cost and poor devs" argument can fuck right off.

How pissed are people gonna be when Sept 9th comes and goes and we still got nothing 😆

If one of the most recognisable brands in the world, does not celebrate the 25 year anniversary of launching in the biggest market in the world, by launching its latest and greatest PS5, then I'll go he.

I'm starting to get nervous. If Sony doesn't announce a PS5 event for next week very soon that means they'll keep waiting for Xbox and Xbox next event is on the Tokyo Games Show september 24th, where they have already warned there will be no next gen news.

That'll put us in october territory and a month before launch is way too late for the PS5 to be properly presented and marketed.

I think Microsoft at this point is more than willing to delay next gen, regardless of them mantaining the Series X will launch in november. If Sony keeps waiting for Xbox to say the price tag first it could mean they are also willing to delay the PS5 ant THAT WOULD SUCK.
