The Xbox 360 controller in 2005 and the Xbox Series X in 2025 will have the exact same feature set for developers to program for, except for 1 thing, the rumble motors in the triggers, added in 2013. Thats it.

20 years and devs will basically have the same limited tool set to use when making their games on Xbox Series X as they did on Xbox One and Xbox 360. No new ways to design, no new experiences for players.

Peak controller was in 2013, who knew.

Love the lazy "pro-consumer" approach, don't even both innovating. Same shit for almost 20 years, fuck me.
looks like you never played a Xbox. It has haptic feedback since first Xone.

also impulse triggers.

XOX doesn't have better resolution, they are both 1080P. XOX performs better, PS4 pro has better textures as you said. PS4 is 1080P and also has better performance than XboxOne (900P). PS4 running at higher resolutions than XboxOne while having better framerates was very common this generation, indicating that the real world performance was greater than just 40%, probably around 50%.

GPU TFs weren't the only difference between X1 and base PS4, memory bandwidth played a big role in the differences also.

How about,

Ui,
BC showing for games,
Hdmi specs
Any info on a day one patch

Or maybe show us the damn machine actually running
The HDMI port is 2.1. They're never gonna tell you anything else. It supports VRR and 4K120 HDR10, just assume its 40 Gb/s.

I do wanna see the UI and someone use the system too.

Backwards compatibility will probably be annoying on day 1 cause a few games won't work, and they'll update it over time.

I kinda just assume the worst for a lot of this stuff.

Only a month left to go, so at least the waiting is almost done.

What's the bet the same people who are pro having to buy new controllers are the same people who will happily pay for remasters that they have already bought last gen

it's a shitty anti consumer move...no way to frame it any better but there will be an army to defend the decision

Sony want you buying the latest accessories at a premium which will offer a minimum user experience over the old controllers

Well, it's the next generation with next generation features, if you don't like the features and prices then do as my good friend Douglas Reynholm suggests...

Yes, indeed. Number of ROPS and ACE's also played a role.
PS4's GPU was pretty impressive at the time and the customisations such as the extra ACE as well as the GDDR5 memory ensured the PS4 punched above it's weight and had some longevity. It was a good choice too and it payed off big time, just look at games like God of War, Uncharted 4, Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima.

It's the sucess of the PS4 and the design choices that influenced it which gives me a lot of confidence and hope in the PS5 hardware and the design choices that went into it, I'm really curious and excited to see the kind of games we'll see five years from now, when developers will be able to really push the hardware as well not being tied down to cross-gen support. Games like Demon Souls already look really really impressive, I feel the best is yet to come.

Why are people so salty today?
Nothing happened to make the green side so scared lol
Exactly, nothing happened. Some are clinging to the "MS Bought SEGA" thread like every Wednesday is the announcement.

If you have nothing to be happy about, be salty and point fingers at the competition instead. It's in the book!

Yes, i agree. I am especially curious if the extra buses of PS4 (Garlic, Onion and Onion+) are still present in PS5. These were added to enhance GPGPU abilities as far as i know.

How long did it take him to come up with that bullshit, let alone write it? Sounds like a five year old having a mental breakdown rather than an actual adult.
Xbox warriors: "You think you can get more flops from the SSD? Ha! you're delusional"
Also Xbox warriors: "It doesn't matter how fast the PS5 I/O is, XSX can achieve the same speeds just by using software, it's math"

also impulse triggers.

Impulse Triggers – Xbox One's Wireless Controller sports four vibration motors – a small one behind each trigger that adds precise haptic feedback to the fingertips, and a larger in each grip for large scale rumbles. This gives users a sense of in-game directionality and depth, creating rich, immersive experiences where gunshots, car crashes and explosions can come to life.

True they call it Haptics but.. its 4 rumble motors and that's it..

PS5 have resistance triggers that apply pressure when you pull down, and the the new haptics use voice coil actuators. This is a coil and a magnet that can vibrate depending on how the power is pushed through the actuator. These are a lot faster than rumble motors, giving it a lot more precision in the vibration. It can also vary in vibration frequency and is akin to the way a speaker works, just not as much range. So then devs can actually "play" a waveform (which is akin to the way sound works) through the haptics and you will feel the "sound". Sound simply being vibration and all.

weren't they downplaying the downsides of sub 1080p resolution from xbox one during the early days of the ps4 xbox one generation?

an example

xbox 360 is power pc and has to be emulated. Xbox one is x86 and it should essentially be able to run with almost no change in the new console.

You are talking about the difference between 1920x1080 and 1440x1080, so a drop only on one axis, so it is closer than a straight comparison of 1080p X 900p. A drop in one axis is harder to spot, they say its most obvious in the foliage. Hardly downplaying.

The XSX still emulates but it still doesn't scale like that, the X1X is four to five times the teraflops of the X1S, did you get four the times the framerate? Did you even get double? No you didn't.

If that cold boot video is legit, then at least for this "testing" kits, the startup time between the two consoles is exactly the same. 20 seconds each.

Xbox Series X Velocity Engine = 4.8GB/s
PS5 Kraken/Oodle = 17. 38GB/s

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Cheers
When Microsoft explained VRS and SFS in detail, they said "2.5x the effective I/O throughput and memory usage above and beyond the raw hardware capabilities on average".

But some people took that number and used it as a multiplier for compressed I/O number, and now they reached 16GB/s even. No clue how they did that.

So the PS5 IO is capable currently of 17.38GB/s with Kraken/Oodle.
So isn't this equivalent to DDR4 2133Mhz:17 GB/s.
Or I'm I way off with this comparison.

The keyword there is Raw. Which most probably means adding the multiplier to the compressed speed is very wrong. But some people either lack basic understanding and reading comprehension or completely ignored or outright disregarded what Microsoft said about the benefits of SFS (such as the 2.5-2.7 multiplier), so they just pulled imaginary numbers out of thin air, possibly adding that multiplier to the compressed speed and potentially even doing it with a higher multiplier completely misunderstanding that that is only meant for the raw speed and according to earlier demonstrations of the SFS, results in a storage raw capability improvement of approximately 2.5x not much higher than that. It could potentially have a multiplier slightly higher than that, but that might not be the case and if it is, we just haven't seen that yet.

You're getting close mate. Not equivalent to DDR4, but same ballpark as slower RAM. There is a consequence to that.

There's a controller coming with the console, you know? And 'offer a minimum user experience', what is this BS? Who is using haptic feedback tech, while the only new thing the other company is offering is a new button, which is copying a function already used in DS4 by the way?

Got it from here...

LISDeOn.png

My bad. 😬

And here too...

Ah I see, my source lists a typical 55gb/s speed for a four channel configuration, while 17gb/s is theoretical speed for a single channel. Most computers do at least dual channel,, but even then we are still getting pretty close to slow ram speeds. Pretty impressive.
