Dolby Vision is paid HDR, we have to ask whether Sony wanted to include that cost in every console and devs are willing to implement it. And don't forget people need compatible tv sets.

Dolby Vision is useless spec for at least 3+ years.

Its basically just HDR10 but with 12 bit color, but there's basically no content that is mastered at 12 bit color. Especially any that can be seen on modern TVs.

No HDR 4K TV today can go over 1000 nits sustained HDR, and at less than 1000 nits brightness, most people can't even tell the difference between HDR 10 bit color and HDR10+/Dolby Vision 12 bit color. HDR10 video is capped at 1000 nits to hide the color banding that can be seen at higher brightness, which the 12 bit color depth can help fix. But you'll likely be unable to notice any difference with current TVs.

As long as you have a HDR10 display with sustained brightness over 500-600 nits when displaying HDR content, you're good. And almost no games are ever going to be mastered to meet HDR10+/Dolby Vision/HLG spec.

We'll be lucky if most games can even deliver solid HDR implementations that can meet the HDR10 spec, for the next few years at least.

I figured it out. They still believe that Richard's RDNA1 tests of overclocking a 5700 in comparison to a stock 5700XT are relevant when it comes to RDNA2. What Richard did was see how close a 5700 could get to a higher CU 5700XT and it fell short but that's due to the limitations of the architecture at higher clock speeds. This didn't stop Richard though.

Another theory of mine is that they still believe PS5 to be 9TF. 5700 is a 7.9TF GPU (2060 class) and 5700XT is a 9.7TF GPU (2070 class). From what Alex is saying he thinks PS5 falls somewhere in between that which would land it conveniently around the 9TF mark which would be roughly a 2060S.

The overclocked 5700 was an exercise to see how true was Cerny's statement that higher clock is better than more CUs.
For the 2060 is because this is the lower-end GeForce RTX available, and the consoles will probably have modest RT power. He picked the weakest RTX GPU to test how games could work with RT at barely playable framerates, what they would have to sacrifice in quality. What was being discussed was RT only not rasterization, you people are retards, specially native english speakers because you have no excuse to not understand what is being said.

A combination of both, the console supports Dolby Vision for everything but the game may or may not support it. If the game doesn't support it It won't display in Dolby.

Similar to how some shows and movies are Dolby on Netflix, while others are in 4K/HD or HDR formats.
