People seem to forget that the CPU needs ram for GAMING tasks as well, and it is not a small amount. The slower memory can be utilized there

I think we have three possible CU outcomes in 9 days or so:

I think what adds to number 3 likelihood for me is the fact RDNA2 is under NDA.

Why then is Microsoft allowed to show it, although still some parts secret, at hotchips.

What's the point of an NDA if the things to keep secret are displayed in August?

It makes no sense, the only way ot makes sense is if its something like the option.
 
if you go to 10m lenght etc go with optical fibre cable.
Not sure if HDMI 2.1 has optical fibre certified cable yet but at those lenghts it doesnt cost much more and it does not have all the problems long electical cables have.

I saw that video in its time, the good thing of CB is can works better in situation where DLSS have
problems like when the motion vector are not good enough and you don't need a third company
to implement it like what happen with DLSS and NVIDIA but in the other things DLSS usually win.

Looks like he used the software with the biggest power draw he had available to him. He even mentions that future software will probably tax the system more, hence the larger PSU included over the 1X. In a game that uses 240 or 250 watts from the wall, I'd assume the unit is a little hotter or temps are about the same but the fan isn't at such a quiet setting (more likely).
 
As for heat with consoles, this is the way i see it, and this is just for me. my personal thoughts

My bedroom, which also houses my console and 43-inch tv has 2 massive windows on the west side of the building.
The buildings outside wall also has heating pipes that run up it.

In summer when the sun sets, the west side of the building, along with the heating pipes my bedroom heats up to over 30 degrees c, it is fucking unbearable.

The last heat wave he had in the UK 2-3 months back, i spent most of my time in the dining room, i even slept on the couch as my room was just to hot. I did not use my ps4 or my tv for that whole week and had my pc turned off for most of the time.

Even at night, my room was 28-30 degrees. Console temps matter to me. 62 degrees sounds a lot to me, but if it is less than what my ps4 gives out then i say well done its a good improvement but if its more to me that's bad.

I will be very unhappy if the ps5 comes in at temps that are hight than the ps4, very unhappy indeed.

Again if other people are happy with it, i am happy for them. To me the more cooler the better.

PS5 has more flexible Ram, more bandwidth and the PS5 is easy just the much better console. How many Devs have said that so far? We saw the Unreal Gameplay Demo on PS5 with about 800 million Polygon per Frame. Not possible on XSX

I never got that argument. The only similarities are the camera angle - Last of Us doesn't play like Horizon, which doesn't play like God of War.

Well do remember that the room the Japanese youtubers were using with the PS5 was around 30C and the PS5 ran cool. So I wouldn't be that worried.

What PS4 do you have? The original PS4 can routinely throw out 65-66 degree air.

I actually have a small PC with a 330 watt PSU (similar amount of power and heat generated as next-gen consoles theoretically) in an enclosed space and never had "overheating" issues with it. But it also blows out the back, and I opened up the back of my entertainment center.

I don't like the venting out of the top with the XSX, as I really have no interest in the thing sitting out on top of my entertainment center... that's where my speakers go since I'm not some TV speaker using poor.

i have a ps4 pro and i play it for about a maximum of 1 hour a day, also watch netflicks on it late at night for an hour or so.

am i reading it correctly or did you mean it the other way round? i need to read that again.

I actually use one of those laptop coolers that this guy mentions in my setup. They connect to the back of an entertainment center fairly easily if you cut out a hole.

I have an HTPC and a PS4 vertically next to each other and never had heat issues.

But... they also both.. vent out the back, like a normal electronic does.. not out the top, which is just odd and kinda sucks for XSX.

Well, in my 30 second Google search on this, there are a few different PS4 Pro models with the quieter ones being a bit hotter than the loader ones.

Plus, I miss typed my response there, the 60+ degrees in that post reference launch day PS4. Though I do see some 7200 revision of PS4 Pro or something like that listed at mid 60s. LOL

Same, I was just being nonsensical. I would expect everyone to use copper unless there is a specific need for a long run, maybe in a Sport's bar scenario or something.

when i put my hand at the back, exhaust it is slightly warm, the console to me feels warmer when i touch it on top, towards the back right. its differently not hot but the plastic is not cool either.

compared to my pc which is like a magma demon on heat, most other things seem cool.

It was a joke because airflow out the back is one of the worst designs for an electronic device in an entertainment cabinet. Basically turning the rear of the shelf into an oven. Especially for those that just punch out that 2" hole for the cords. The air being released upward should ensure that more hot air escapes the shelf the device is sitting on, even if there is a shelf above (providing the device is sitting towards the front of the shelf). I'm sure people will deal, the 360 (slim and e) along with X1 and X1S all vented out the top. LOL

I get that anyone can write crap on the internet but at least put some effort into it. I read this like an idiot and he says the PS5 will run it at 1800p because the PS4 Pro ran it at 1800p...That literally his argument. Some people are so fucking stupid, clickbait or not, I don't get how people aren't embarrassed by posting these types of terrible excuse for words and sentences...either side of said console wars.

No hate from me about info that wasn't right but interested to know your thoughts on what happened.

Now were seeing PS5 and series X 'unexpectedly' for some performing the same on all games so far, does this play into any teraflop guesses at the time, given how focused people were on teraflops at the time. If Sony was getting amazing performance in ways we haven't expected could it have been wrongly linked to a higher TF number? Or was it just wrong info like a lot seemed to have?

I believe there was also something you apparently saw running that hasn't come to pass, any explanation?

I don't know why such a fuzz is made about XSX having more CUs per cache than PS5.

DX allows to specify waves which, as far as I understand, allow to specify which computation will be performed by a CU group. That means that all CUs that share the same cache could be using the same data, thus making almost always a hit on the change.
That's obviously more work than having a bigger cache or having less CUs sharing it but it's not clear cut to me that it's better.

Edit: Not a console warrior post. The PS4 Pro is a fine machine and the temps aren't a problem. Also, the newer node is more heat tolerant than the node used in 1X and Pro.

It's easy to increase ventilation at the back of an entertainment center though..

But I'm sure the XSX has been tested even in fairly enclosed spaces so it's not like I'm super worried about it; I just have a current setup where everything vents out the back and it's pretty easy to manage.

This is exactly what they have been waiting for and expected, but as a measure of each systems power having lapped up the teraflop narrative.

I just think its funny it hasn't panned out that way and there may be more surprises and shocks in store...
