My transgender friends are old… and therefore pretty tired of how their decades of struggle to be accepted has been co-opted into the culture and identity wars.

They just want to live peaceful, bigotry free lives, and have no interest in trying to redefine what basic human biology is. Nothing about the current trans lobby helps them. Nothing. And I despise that lobby for creating that environment, because they’re lovely people and don’t deserve it

They do, trust me, they deserve to have the best possible lives they can and to be loved like, and maybe more, than any other human being. And I bet non of them claims that there aren't differences between men and women or that you people need to use their pronouns. I imagine they make an effort to present themselves as women and most people are fine with it because, well, most people are nice. Gender dysphoria is a real condition that deserves comprehension.

These trans-activists online are not the average transperson and most people unfortunately don't understand it since they've never been exposed to any kind of "normal" transperson. They see this weird bearded dudes telling women to suck their dicks, they see someone with anime avatar, trans flag, they/them pronouns and some marxist/antifa reference in their bio and assume that's what trans is all about. And that's because, for those people, it's an identity to wear instead of a real condition. It's a power play, and you can see that in most progressive activism. We went from "accept me for who I am" to "comply or you will be punished". How people think this ends well is beyond me.

I have the same experience. A school friend went through the surgery back in 1987, was a different environment. She’s pretty pissed off about how it’s going now.

• Saw the slowly growing discontent that had been manifesting at GAF for years.
• Orchestrated the EviLore incident to rile up the entire community which was "the last straw" for many.
• Immediately has an entire, working forum ready to go to migrate as many GAF users as possible.
• ResetERA was planned and in the works for days, if not weeks before the migration.
• Already has THOUSANDS of accounts ready to instantly start his forum as well as mods to run it. The ad money commences...
• Brand it as a new beginning with a less strict approach to moderation which was kept for a few months then slowly devolved over time to even stricter moderation and echo chambers.
• Basically do nothing as your mod team runs the site and your stolen community provides all the content.
• Make absolute bank (4.5 million fucking dollars) selling to whoever the fuck is buying highest, drop an announcement at 2AM EST, then disappear never to be heard from again.

Like, I almost have to respect this level of hustle.

Even I got a bit of off-site shit when I was a mod and I tried to keep things separate. So yeah, it's awful.

I wouldn't recommend moderating (for anything) even if you were getting paid, if you at all care about the community you're covering. It's one thing when it's just a job and that's it but crossing the hobby and work streams is a definite mess in this area.

GAFs moderation has always been rather savage which is what I've always loved about this space, alleviating bullshit and cultivating real discussion. With that said however, the moderators are always going to have there fair share of hate as a result. You'd only want to moderate something you actively care about and are willing to allocate time to. If you were paid for it back then would you have seen it as work despite how taxing it was?

No one ever sent me death threats wtf. Am I worth less than other mods???

I would have seen it as work, yeah. It becomes a job and one has a responsibility to that position if you're being paid to work. It becomes real taxing to mod once a place gets over a certain size and how taxing it is on someone grows with that increase. You need to be able to disconnect and walk away sometimes but there's not as much room for that in a job and your livelihood could potential be on the line. That's why I said it's crossing the streams too much. Mind you, that's just my personal feelings on the potential of working full time as a moderate specifically. Work places vary wildly and maybe it would have been a super chill job but my personal health and interest in hobbies comes first, which is why I never considered it.
