[NEXT LEVEL lames™] ResetEra sold to M.O.B.A. Network for USD$4.55 million

Man, I didn't expect that ending when read (liked my work so much). In my case I filmed a documentary about Dhofari (our region) old architecture and a CEO of a company loved it a lot. Now he put me on the administrative board as head of media and agriculture (in my country I'm well-known as a naturalist on Oman TV) and first ad of the company would be around 5-10K OMR ($13-26K) to be done within 6 months! And that wouldn't be the only one according to him, turns out that most of the board are fans of my little documentaries I've been doing on TV despite being a beginner in filmmaking and ads.

Working on English subtitles and full-English voice over within a week

That film happens to be inside the very big project that they're working on! More about the project (they're trying to snatch a chunk of it from another competing company, ASAAS):

5 days ago, I only had less than $10 left. Sometimes you just get lucky when you're passionate about your business and love what you're doing. Hope things go as planned and hope things to turn out great to you an all our friends in this forum. I believe you turning down that was a smart call, but it's critical to not burn bridges as they might discuss and comeback with a satisfying offer.

Thanks man, glad things are working out for you. FYI, I'm not in the film biz anymore sadly but it's due to other reasons that are personal. I'm on a new career path now but I still keep the camera for plans in the future. I don't know if it could have paid off in the long run but at the time there was no way I could afford to work 12hr days, 7 days a week for 3 months straight without some compensation.

Raise your hand if you think this money will not go to charity, but will be used to fund her hot pocket and mountain dew supply.

Thanks, mate. Yes, I've been through frustration periods a lot, nearly quit as well and sold all my gear. Honestly speaking, in any business, you really need to be as social as possible, and to know as much as you can. Most of those deals have biases, and if the client likes you he/she would rather have you over someone probably more capable, as long as he/she feels that you're passionate and aiming for the best level possible.

It's so painful to work for free, but my plan is to keep it as bare-minimum and at the right time as self-advertisement when things seem to be slow. Also making a neutral video like something around an event (halloween/Christmas/national day/something education with association with police, etc) could help make you go viral and don't feel the sting of unpaid work.

Also widen your portfolio, I'm 100% a naturalist, but going for ads now, sports, and might as well go for underwater documentaries (extremely expensive!) when I get the chance. Also listen carefully to whom considered "downers", even though you won't do what they say, but they represent a chunk of the audience and they might spark a positive change in your work, whatever that biz is ;).

The only safe space Cerium cares about is where he can keep all that money without the mods getting any of it.

Reading that thread and seeing all the clearEra "help us keep the lights on" users in denile they got played is making this one amazing Friday. They are now owned by a company which has a bunch of dedicated Activision/Blizzard sites too, fucking wrecked.

I'm actually a certified scuba diver lol. Made a nice little low-budget vacation vid once. Nothing fancy. Just a Go-pro and a one Dslr camera. My editing skills need some work though. I do have plans to incorporate my film background into my new career and other fun projects I want to do in the future.

That sounds great! For such business, and for semi-boomers like me, engaging in social media is a bit hard for us, lol. But for business you really need these platforms like Snapchat, Tik Tok, and Twitter although they're filled with BS. Still didn't open an account there yet but might do soon just to reach a very large audience hanging there and let my wife manage them. Actually the company is just me (photography/videography) and my wife (graphics) :lollipop_tears_of_joy: .

Try 360 videos underwater using insta360, just turn it on and probably tie it to a rock with a string/rod and comeback to it few minutes later. Place it in a busy spot then post it on youtube as a 360 video where someone can use a VR, touchscreen, mouse to look around!

The mods were paid in power trips and safe spaces
Cerium to mods: "It's all about having a culture here where everyone working at Resetera is appreciated and empowered to make decisions. It's not always about making money, but being respected. Would you rather work at a boring place you hate, or a place you love with games?"

Mods to Cerium: "You're right boss. You can count on us. Hey is something wrong? You sound like you're in a rush"

Cerium: "Things are fine, but lets chat tomorrow..... I got to hit the bank before they close at 4 pm"

What's funny is that any semblance of community there - the detailed and rich OT's, the community threads that someone curates results for weekly or monthly to keep people engaged, the occasional thoughtful post - all persevere despite the mods, not because of them. The mods don't contribute in a positive way to any thread. Meanwhile they gleefully ban long time members who do actually provide value over petty personal reasons.

I'm glad those mods got grifted and will all be gone soon enough once this MOBA company moves forward with their plans. B-Dubs and the rest are delusional if they think any sane company would keep them around in any kind of deal. They can find unskilled volunteer labor to moderate for them, people who aren't emotionally fragile bullies at that.

Edit: I mean look at this, posted by nush:

UICA4Zf.png

Does anyone really expect a serious business to keep this aggressive, lacking in basic character person around to help run their new investment? Or Hecht or B-Dubs, who encourage such childish behavior? They're all going to be gone.

And honestly I don't mind Nepenthe trying to grift (she lacks the intellect or charm to really pull it off beyond a one-time collection of maybe several hundred bucks) - those users there deserve it for feeding her sensitive ego.
I want "Pay me, you monochromatic freeloader" written on my tombstone 🤣

The way she goes about this sounds like an incredibly spoiled child who finds out other kids got something she likes, and angrily demands to the relatives around at the time she immediately gets it too, or else.

If you parachuted any of these "I'm always the victim" people in a third world country with serious soul-crushing, unescapable misery, injustice and oppression all around they'd be found rocking in a fetal position under a bridge whispering to themselves "I can't even!" in less than 30 minutes.

Isn't it nice to have an active, dedicated gaming forum where we can talk about games without have to put up with all of these demented freaks?

Seeing this brings me a sense of comfort every time I log in:

The Politics forum has been nuked. Please do not bring political discussion to the rest of the site, or you will be removed. Thanks.

:messenger_smiling_with_eyes:
Initially I was a bit salty when the politics forum got removed but now in hindsight it was the correct choice. A really nice side effect of a politics ban is the fact that the Era types literally can't exist here. They make everything political which means they'd get nuked off the forum within hours :messenger_beaming:

Broke: only allow one-sided politics
Woke: allow both sides
Bespoke: ban politics entirely because politics = cancer

Honestly, that's usually enough for mods on the internet. Reeee mods were next level though, I bet that forum has the most banned users of any website on the web.
Hey you never know. Maybe mods there competed for who banned the most people. It is their way of proving to their overlord their mod skills.

Kind of like Costco where somewhere near the back wall they have a marker board tracking how many credit card and exclusive membership sign ups each person has done that day.

The winner gets a $10 gift card from Cerium to the gas station of their choice.

Lol

In seriousness, I can appreciate why some did what they did mod wise 'then', but fuuuuuuck me why on god's name would you be standing firm and defending this shit 'today'

The next thread they have pearl clutching some business being shitty to their employees is going to be glorious

One is probably due by lunchtime, they need to project real fast

Did we forget that most of them self-immolated when leaving this place? It shouldn't be hard to recognize any that try crawling back with a new account. We can just play Red Light, Green Light with them and anyone who refuses to stop moving when we say NO POLITICS will be shot immediately.

Given they now are owned by a corporation with a public traded stock, good luck getting paid now. Even if they stood firm as a united front of 30 mods asking for minimum wage for part time hours, they are getting zero from MOBA. And I think they know it. At least with a loosey goosey site run by one guy, you never know if the owner will be chill and generous or a tyrant.

So I bet some of them are trying to put on a face of "I'm willing to work for free" to tell new management to please keep them. If any walk forward asking to be paid (especially publicly on a message board), they'll be red flagged for sure.

New rule - any new joiners have to make 50 posts in the 'Tits look so good on TV' thread and have to express some joy in human physicality, regardless of their gender or sexuality

Twist: they can't get through the 50 by doing this

I was thinking a new proof of passage thread can be made where someone has to upload a picture of their hair.

Natural hair colour = approved
Green, purple, blue etc... = denied

Problem is if you did that the server bandwidth of images would go through the roof and we'd get no new members from Resetera.

I was fine with it from the get go. And it proved to be a move that was entirely beneficial for discourse across the larger site. It not only keeps out the extremists of all kinds, but also those people who simply cannot leave politics at the door while discussing anything else.

We discussing a TV show? They get political without having even seen it. A video game about an island of talking animals? Political. Medical research? Political. They're exhausting and I am glad that kind of conversation is now gone from here. They can keep getting bullied by reee mods while remaining there, or escape into the boring echo chambers of Twitter and Facebook, but for the time being at least we no longer have to worry about them here.

If Era had an army, I imagine this lady would be their general. What could go wrong!

I wish MOBA and ResetEra much success. Whether Cerium did it just for the money or whatever, I can't judge. But you can't blame him for his decision.

I think ultimately MOBA carries the only risk, in that they now have a platform that has many extremist people who call for violence and murder of others, and of course the classic pedophiles, perverts and so on.

I would have took the money too. 4.5mil would make things a lot easier even if it is not early retirement money.

Nice house without a mortgage and few million left in the bank. Lovely. Far play to the person that just got paid

this is an extreme risk for MOBA. The community is quite volatile for sure and just smells like MOBA didn’t even try to investigate their purchase before saying “yeah alright”

4.5 mil is overpriced I think considering the risk. Just think, someone paid 4.5 mil for posts about someone peeing 9 times a day and suicide posts every other day

I echo the sentiment that I probably would have taken the money too, which is why it's interesting over the many years Evilore didn't take the one-off payday option

Judging by the responses still going on over there, one thing is clear - an unhealthy proportion of that forum just love to be outraged

Outraged at the mods. Outraged by other people on the forum. Outraged at MOBA. Outraged at Cerium

Some guy took the payday, who gives a fuck

That's not surprising coming from them. Era said a few months ago that FFVII remake was jarring and fake because people in the slums were clean, using clean clothes and happy. They really believed poor people should be dirty, using dirty and ripped clothes while sulking and being unhappy all the time. 🤷🏻‍♂️
What a bunch of morons, ff7 remake is utter shit for completely different reasons.

My Aunt paid 9-10% while still under a bankruptcy with near poverty level income. 20% had to be a loanshark in the backroom of an illegal gambling den.

LOL is that really true? What'd he say, and why/how do they pick and choose who to crucify?

Swept under the rug …and he made probably one of the most racist poster a mod …they have gone after people for much less

Have to admit, Cerium is quite the sales man. He swindled MOBA for sure.

Just passing by and completely off topic to say that Oman is a wonderful country and people should visit it ! I can't wait to go back there for holidays and visit more of the country. We planed a week in the Nizwa region in 2020 but everything was canceled due to covid :( it's now planed for 2022 (crossing fingers) and we really want to see the Salalha and Dofhar region in the following 2 years.

Isn't this the guy who bought his wife?

Good to see mummy and daddy lent a hand.
Nah, that's messofanego, but knowing how reeee is respectful about women, they probably have more than one wife buyer, you know, to save them from a bad life and shit.
