You know what I miss Mods like Bish, I think the older mods were the ones with the better, more level headed tenure's. These new young mods dont have life experience, and I think honestly once they get career oriented and start having a family or relationship some of that weird bitterness towards the world will fall off a bit. Unless they are fucking lazy and think bitching banning people is progress for their plight?

But usually with age and just life, things start to come into perspective for a lot of young people. I know a couple friends who acted like Neph, but then had a kid. They are 180 totally different person now.

Moderation on Resetera has become something else; they're not there to 'moderate' discussion and keep it from getting out of hand. Under the rubric of creating a 'safe space' for all, they've appointed themselves arbiters of moral decency and truth. Era's admin mindset has become one of assuming they know the absolute truth on most issues and are above the usual rabble in their moral perspicacity. They're not - nobody possibly could be - but in their digital tin-pot dictatorship, it seemed to suit them.

Predictably enough, the heavy-handed pettiness of that approach has come back to haunt them - with the captain jumping ship, they now find themselves rudderless with little support coming from the community.

Site was sold off, Tech staff left to fend for themselves, prob weren't told, or given very little lead time.
Mods told they will remain as volunteers, probably the first time they found out and told nothing would change. They mostly seem happy about this... not seeing the sword of Damocles overhead.
Some users are fine with it, but the other shoe is dropping for a lot of the users.

To me the community should let it burn so someone can build something totally free of all the weird bullshit. Which kind of what Neogaf became after all the shit went down. It's better than its ever been. Now if you derail a thread or drive by you get posting privleges revoked instead of banned from the site like reset does it. If you start bringing in console war BS they get remove you from just the one thread and let you know why they did what they did.

I noticed that when it happened to me, im not perfect and Im glad people like Dgrayson, Billofrights seem level headed and know how to moderate.
I feel most mods not all, are moderating in bad faith in something that alienates communities. ANd the fact no one over there and even people that are pro movement of what ever it be dont see that you cant have a community run like that, and its not natural to ban/cancel things that go against a mindset. Thats not being open, and brings things to light in how currently the social landscape has become.
Like how is what is happening at reset not a trend or red flag for how discourse has gone for LGBTQ? Whats been happening over there with everyone leaving is proof that canceling people, yelling at them, chasing them off and chasing them through means of finding posts from years ago is not the way for progress?

Most people over there are seriously either super young, or socially inept and dont spend time with relatives, longtime friends or contribute to their local community like local government(city council ect). They think being anonymous ona forum, twitter or whatever the platform may be, and moderating people out of the community that dont have the same mindset creates a great community or environment.
Yet anyone who has seen this coming, from the beginning or talk with common sense in the reality of real life experience is shunned, cancelled or run off.

Well hope this is the eye opener the site, and the gaming community needed to see how it was poised to fail from the get go. Hopefully this has a ripple effect throughout social media especially in games where Developers are forced to say specific things as to not get into hot water. Hopefully companies see this and stop catering to people who yell loud.

I have hope that positive idea's and conversations are being had and people who have been part of the hive mind, have a epiphany.

By the way: I found out after a GDPR request to delete the data (right to erasure) they still have your data because they ban your alts via IP and geolocation adress.
This is illegal in Europe (they after all sold the company to a european company).

I recommend everyone who had / has alt accounts on era to file a complaint with the europan commission.​
