This might sound silly and my lack of understanding of American court and laws, but Americans seem to be able to sue for almost anything and everything. Could any of these mods potentially lawyer up and try to make some sort of claim on the $4.5m? Basically stating they were crucial in driving the success of whatever image the forum created by all their hard unpaid efforts? Is this even possible? or several join forces into some sort of action? or any of the old creators step up and make some claims?

I honestly don't know if it's possible, but in this day and age, I wouldn't be surprised if this spills into some legal area?

Also why would a company want to buy a forum that is potentially losing and bleeding members? or will probably dramatically change going forward, either splintering off or slowly dying, to a point where the ad revenue and donations, just aren't profitable?

Anyone who doesnt believe everything they believe or isn't left leaning gets called a nazi. And I'll be honest there are extreme people on both sides, and there are a lot of trumpers or pro right leaning people who are little too outspoken. There's nothing wrong having a political opinion but you need to keep your emotions in check and not start flinging names, cursing at people who dont see eye to eye or your point of view.

ERA's issue is they want to be this progressive movement forum for everything, and used the userbase from this place who jumped over to do it via GAme discussions. AND THEN they tried to be pro progressive with anything that got reported on in game industry. Which theres nothing wrong with that, but they banned people who would play devils advocate or come in with different perspective.

From my experience, Era is BAD with the tribalism. If you're not with us, you're against us/a Nazi. GAF *does* have it's crowd of low effort, spamming the word "woke," if a game has a black main character crowd, but I've found that the majority of us come from very different walks of life in terms of race, religion, and sexuality, and the only thing we rag on consistently is idiocy. Sure, the Uber progressive left is sort of low hanging fruit for this, if only because of how radical and bombastic they tend to be, but I've seen it taken and given on both sides. And for what it's worth, there are worthwhile posters and good ideas on Era, it's just overrun with senseless drama and egocentric righteousness to the point that it's just ceaselessly entertaining to rib on.
