Insider Gaming has learned that the next mainline Ghost Recon game, codenamed 'Ovr', will be going to its internal alpha later this year.

According to several sources, the game will enter internal alpha in Fall 2025 as Ubisoft sets new internal milestones for its major projects following the announcement that it will delay its major IPs.

Ghost Recon, codenamed Ovr, is expected to launch sometime in 2026, with sources indicating that the internal alpha to final release could take around 12 months. So, in theory, the next Ghost Recon game could launch sometime in Fall 2026.

For content, the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake, codenamed 'Rewind', entered its internal Alpha in June 2025, and is forecasted to release before March 31st, 2026.

In a report from March 2024, Insider Gaming exclusively reported that the next mainline Ghost Recon game would take a more military simulation (mil-sim) approach, with a first-person perspective and a focus on a fictional 'Naiman war'.

Footage sent to Insider Gaming, under the condition that it will not be made public, shows a game somewhat similar to the Modern Warfare series or something akin to the tactical shooter Ready or Not.

As for when Ubisoft will officially unveil the game, it is unclear, but sources within Ubisoft believe that the company is likely to keep it under wraps for the next 12 months, returning next year with a massive Ubisoft Forward event.

Hopefully when they say 'milsim' they actually mean it. Wildlands was fucking booooooooring. Breakpoint looked like more of the same.

As usual I hope Ubisoft manages to find a good middle ground between the older 'mission-select' games and the newer 'icons all over the map' games.

The only upcoming internal Ubisoft game rumor that has sounded very exciting to me was the next Far Cry game with a 72 hour time limit.

Ovr is not a good codename. Something being "over" has a negative connotation. Concord was named after a plane that crashed and burned. What is the Ghost Recon franchise ovr? One thing's for sure, the 3rd-person camera view is ovr.

They already have a fucking tactical TPS in Siege. Should have stuck to 3rd person.

TPS......Third Person Shooter.
Did Rainbow Six Siege add a third person mode?

P.S I agree I think Ghost Recon should be third person with ADS.
Even in GRAW I used the third person perspective more often than not.

Wildlands was really fun. Didn't like Breakpoint all that much. Even after all the patches, the setting just doesn't bring that vibe. Not to mention those lame ass "boss" fights against tanks.

Urgh, why is everyone going first person again? I appreciate it's the perspective of the original games but I feel like they were on to something with Wildlands, but they just never realised the potential, then they completely knobbed up Breakpoint..

Now they just flip flop between different concepts (likely trying to follow trends), rather than reflect on their own failings when it comes to execution, it's always considered a market problem with the game type and they shift to a new style again, they'll probably bugger this up too because they never address fundamental problems.

There's also microtransactions looming in the background. Doesn't really matter how its structured, it just takes the fun out of these games no matter how they spin it.

Regardless of the quality of the game at launch, I played Breakpoint with a group of friends during lockdown and it was a blast, I absolutely loved it. Looking forward to the new one.
