I'm not a Charger fan but I listen to the local sports radio and am certainly aware of what goes on with the Chargers.

This I found quite interesting.

Ryan Leaf comes to fill in as a Sports Radio host here in San Diego sometimes.

Yeah, you read that right he actually guest hosts a Sports Radio show on occasion here in San Diego. When I first heard this was going to happen I couldn't believe it.

I was ready to hear the train wreck happen on the radio and then what I heard was a man on the radio who was sincerely apologetic and a man who owned up and took responsibility for his actions.

He didn't dodge any questions and he told it like it was. He called himself selfish, and not prepared for the rigors of life in the NFL. He didn't know how to deal with failure and he also talked about how the Chargers were partly responsible for enabling some of his behavior.

I have to say my respect level for Ryan Leaf increased tenfold listening to him do this show. He said the main thing he wanted out of it was to own up to the errors he made. This was cathartic to him.

Perhaps, his Brain Tumor made him reevaluate himself. Maybe he realizes he had blown a giant opportunity. Whatever it is I think Ryan Leaf is a different person.

While Ryan Leaf will always be vilified for being a horrible player and at the time a terrible person. I respect the fact that he had the balls to get on the Radio here in the city that hates him the most and answer for himself the questions people had.

I don't know if we will ever see JBUST reach that point.

An interesting video if you guys care he is interviewing a Reporter that covered the Chargers when he played and it was unlike any interview I ever heard....

BREAKING: Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw has a cracked bone in his foot.
:( The loss is more worrying on the passing game front. Bradshaw was putting on a clinic on blitz pick-ups the past few weeks. Jacobs has always been pretty good on that front though. If his head is finally on straight, hopefully he can fill in. I also hope that it means we see more of Da'Rel Scott on the field for pure running plays. I really want to see what his speed can do for the offense.

We get really dangerous when we sent out Wallace, Brown, Miller and Sanders/Cotchery at the same time and spread the defense out. That is tough for any team to defend if the offensive line blocks. It just isn't as potent when Sanders/Cotchery is replaced with Ward.

I don't think Hines should be benched or anything, we should just use him less (more on running plays and red zone situations).

We should use him opposite Heath in two TE formations. Hines is a great blocker and coud likely create mismatch problems in such a setup. But you're right, as a wideout his best games are behind him.

The only problem with using Hines as a Pure Tight End is that nobody's gonna buy him blocking.

Might as well do the rest of the practice report and more info on Bradshaw's injury:

http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2011/11/giants_running_back_ahmad_brad_1.html

WR Hakeem Nicks (hamstring) was on the bike and watching practice today. I suppose that's a good sign after he wasn't on the field at all for Wednesday's session.

C David Baas (knee) was also on the bike. He won't practice today. Same with OT Stacy Andrews (back), who was not at practice.

DE Osi Umenyiora (knee/shoulder) and WR Mario Manningham (illness) were back to work. It seems FB Henry Hynoski (neck) is good to go as well.

Justin Tuck was also practicing. Stacey Andrews was not on the field as he is still seeing back issues (what is it with the Andrews brothers and their backs?!)

Problem with Grant is that the Packers almost never run anymore.
We run. We just don't get any yards.:( Jacobs might be worth it for TD's though since he'll no doubt be goal line back for us.

Those foot injuries usually take forever to recover from.
He played on one of those cracked bone injuries in 2009 for the last half of the season (he was a back up then). Don't put it past him to do it again as he's a tough little bastard. Right now he's mulling whether to have corrective surgery to fix it and my guess is he will.

EDIT: ...and it looks like he's out "several weeks" according to the team. If he has surgery, it will end his season.

The thing with Ward isn't that he's lost it, it's that Sanders and Brown are really good. But don't underestimate Ward's worth. He would have had a monster game last week because he can pick apart a zone. If he's manned up, he's pretty much done. Ward's greatest value to the Steelers is as a mentor to the young guys. I really hope that he decides to be the Pittsburgh WR coach when he retires.

Onto the game. I'm seriously concerned about stopping Ray Rice. The Steelers could very well be down three starting linebackers. Will we see the 4-3 defense? Will we see 4-2-5? Will we see Worilds and Carter getting their asses kicked on the edge? I do know that Polumalu is going to be responsible for getting after Flacco.

Also, Lamarr Woodley was named AFC defensive player of the month. Get well soon.

I'm going to be very interested in talking with you about the Giants going into next week's game against the Niners. It's looking like Nicks will be out this week but in next, which sucks for us, but Bradshaw out is pretty awesome for us.

I'm not a Jacobs hater at all, and he'll definitely be able to still be good for you guys, but against us, big power backs are our LB's speciality, so this will hopefully allow us to play in the nickel most of the time.

It's gonna be a great matchup. Both of our teams are playing really well right now.

Actually, speaking of Deacon's question about playing Jacobs, I just picked him up as well, and here is my conundrum: Jacobs vs. NE or Battle vs. MIA?

Battle might get more carries, but I expect Jacobs to still get 15+ to keep Brady off the field as much as possible, so it actually might be even.

Thoughts?

this may be a dumb question, but what's the NFL rule that's keeping the Fox game off the air in Houston?

I don't expect to have a big running day anyway. Right now, the Giants are a passing team out of necessity. The offensive line is not a good run blocking line. Coughlin/Gilbride will call designed runs still to keep defenses honest and setup the play action even if they are small gainers but generally we're winning games thanks to good to great pass protection (partially thanks to Bradshaw as mentioned), Eli's arm, talented wide receivers and the best pass rush in the NFL right now.

There's plenty for the Niners to exploit with the Giants including a porous run defense. Considering the way Gore is playing, that spells trouble if the Giants don't man up and keep him in check. They haven't proven that they can do that in the first half of games. Speaking of which, another big flaw - we're a really shitty first half team. The offense is generally slow to start and the defense doesn't wake up until after half time for some oddball reason. That's all well and good against the poor teams in the NFL (not really) when you can somewhat get away with it (we didn't against Seattle) but against the better teams? Yeah, they need to play a complete football game this week. Next week and every week after cause there are no gimmies from here on out.

IF and it's a big if, the Giants actually play solid run defense and put Alex into obvious passing situations? He'll be seeing plenty of the Kraken as it were and that isn't good for the Niners.;)

Looks like McFadden is going to be out this game as well. Guy just can't stay healthy, needs to learn how to run outta bounds instead of trying to truck every defender. Eric Weddle would appreciate it.

I think the rule is that there can't be two double headers. I may be wrong though.

Let's look at the risk reward scenarios.

Drafting Luck:
risk
1) Might piss off Peyton
2) Small chance that he's a bust.
reward
1) He could be the face of your franchise for the next 15 years.
2) Potential trade value of Peyton Manning.
3) Potential for Luck to be mentored by Manning for 2-3 years.

Not drafting Luck:
risk
1) Peyton may never play again, or never be the same, and you could become the 1980s era Colts again.
2) You WILL need to draft a QB in the next 2 years anyways.
reward
1) Peyton doesn't get his feelings hurt.

I see it more like this:

Drafting Luck:
risk
1) Might piss off Peyton - true
2) Small chance that he's a bust. - no small chance. I see it as 50/50 but that is because I don't trust QBs coming out as much as most do. I also value proven NLF QBs over the supposed next coming, unless of course you are in terrible shape and only way to start over is to draft a franchise QB. Colts are only terrible right now because Manning isn't in. With Manning in that division they would be challenging for the division title/playoff berth.

And so with that in mind drafting Luck and getting rid of Peyton has the risk of sinking the franchise right away as opposed to needing to draft a QB in 4-5 seasons. And again as I mentioned in the previous post, this is all if and only if Manning has recovered and coming back 100%. If I am a fan I want to make 2-3 more SB runs now rather than hope that the next big hyped player from college isn't a bust and rely on him to win a SB or two in his career.

reward
1) He could be the face of your franchise for the next 15 years. - BIG IF
2) Potential trade value of Peyton Manning. - TRUE but if Luck fails you might need to use some of those picks to draft more QBs
3) Potential for Luck to be mentored by Manning for 2-3 years. Now this would be the best option if possible but if they are keeping Manning, I think Manning would prefer they draft guys to help him out now rather a guy who is going to replace him.

Not drafting Luck:
risk
1) Peyton may never play again, or never be the same, and you could become the 1980s era Colts again - Again what I said is only if Manning is back 100% healthy. And they also become the 1980s Colts again if Luck fails.
2) You WILL need to draft a QB in the next 2 years anyways. - Why 2 years? Manning can play till 40 if he remains healthy.
reward
1) Peyton doesn't get his feelings hurt - And continues to make awesome commercials.

yankeehater said:
The idea is you would rather have 10+ years of good QB play, then 3 or 4. Luck seems like a sure thing and the risk of passing on him is to great. Even if you keep Manning and try to retool for a SB run, there is no knowing if it will even work. Manning has only won one and it took an insane amount of Luck for that to happen.

But those 10+years are not guaranteed. Maybe I am wrong here since majority of the guys don't agree but I rather bank on a proven commodity than a player who MIGHT be great. If Manning is back 100% he is far better suited to lead the Colts considering all their other weaknesses. And they could use that #1 pick to either trade down or draft help around Manning to make the possible 2-3 more SB runs.

If you select Luck you still need help in so many other areas that you won't be good-decent for another 2-3 seasons.

I just need to clarify this because I know how you guys are about the 2 teams thing.

The Chargers are not the team I root for nor do I care about them very much a side for my Uncle who is a big Charger fan. However, since I do live in San Diego and sports radio is all I listen to in the car I do hear a lot about the Chargers.

I just wan't people to know my allegiance is only to the 49ers even though I do have things to add about the Chargers.

Fair enough I just want to cover my bases. :)

I'm just glad I posted here before the season started so I'm not considered a 49er "LIFE LONGER". I'm sure people will come out of the wood works now that the 49ers are hot.

I always say the more the merrier though.

I think I'm the exact opposite of you. I'm a Charger fan, but I also follow the 49ers (not very closely though). I used to live in the Bay Area and learned about football watching the Niners. My uncle is a diehard Niner fan too.

Wow your like my evil twin! Except I never lived in the Bay Area but I followed the 49ers because I wanted my own team. As a kid I was rebellious and didn't want to follow in my Uncle's footsteps (Uncle is like my father since my Father was never in my life.) didn't like the Raiders. Never thought much of the Rams went with the 49ers.

Have followed them for as long as I can remember. Have had good times and bad times but I can't cheer for anybody else.

Hm.
Coughlin all but ruled him out this Sunday. That doesn't mean he won't play the next week and going forward. Like I said, he's a tough little man that doesn't let things like ankles and bones get in his way if he can help it.:)

TheBlueScreen Ralph Vacchiano
Coughlin pointed out that Bradshaw has played through a similar injury in the past. That's possible this time, too (Not Sunday) #

As to Hakeem playing this Sunday?

TheBlueScreen Ralph Vacchiano
WR Hakeem Nicks said his hamstring is just strained, no tear, but decision on playing Sunday "will come down to the last minute." #NYG

Nicks has a mild low grade strain (no tear or anything) and its progressing. He'll likely not practice tomorrow either and try the hammy out on Saturday to see if he can go on Sunday.

Hines is done dude. I am not basing that on this season alone, I have seen him slip over the last 1.5 seasons and he is holding the offense back.

Whenever he comes back you will see offensive production decline dramatically. I honestly think even the Pats could cover him just because he is so fucking slow. He never makes the defense pay when Ben goes to him on a hot route on a blitz. When that happens it is time to let the next guy step up.

Bears game is a big one for me. I wanna see if they can make the same turn around like last year when they were 4-3.

Also, wanna see what are chargers made of.

Yep I read about that a few days ago.

Prince I think can definitely go immediately. I wonder if they'll use him in the slot or in outside situations. At the very least this can get Rolle to move back in the S spots and out of the slot. Grant should probably be on the field less. I love the guy for being a smart, savvy vet, but he's been toast this year.

It will be very interesting for Barden. He should immediately see some action in three (if Nicks cannot go) WR sets, and definitely in 4-wide if Nicks does play. I can't believe some people on BBI have been comparing him to Sinorice Moss or Travis Beckum, two guys who've been healthy, have gotten opportunity after opportunity and have done absolutely nothing.

I'm not sure what the coaching staff or front office sees in D.J. Ware. Maybe it's a practice thing. I did want them to keep Andre Brown in camp and preseason over him. He almost got Eli killed this past week in a blitz pickup, so I wonder if he's in trouble over that. I hope because Da'rel Scott is a speedster and can offer more in rush attempts and those screen plays. They can disguise the situation where he's not the main guy to pick up a blitzing Safety or LB.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...-arian-foster-joe-mcknight-are-award-winners/

Texans running back Arian Foster also started the season quietly because of his injuries, but he’s back to his 2011 form. Foster won the AFC Offensive Player of the Month award with 809 yards from scrimmagine with five scores in five games, including 310 as a scrimmage yards (499 rush, 310 receiving) with five touchdowns. He’s carried Houston’s offense with Andre Johnson out.

Arian Foster wins AFC Offensive Player of the Month! Guy is making less than 500k this year. Im starting to feel bad for him. PAY THE MAN!And he had Josh Freeman hair in college:

Yes, when the Texans are home they are going to be the only game on. When they are road you get Texans on CBS and typically Cowboys or some other NFC least team on FOX in houston.

Same reason, when the Cowgirls are home they are the only game on. When they are on the road your going to get steelers/jets/patriots in the AFC on CBS.

I've heard a couple of those great interviews with Ryan Leaf too. Seems like whatever happened in Texas was what it took to come to terms with his life.

The most enlightening thing he says is that he wished he stayed in school for his senior year, that though it would have been difficult (did he mention a bunch of good players were graduating?) and he would have had a worse record, it might have helped him mature.

The best part is when he's thankful that at least he was taken AFTER Manning. LOL
