Eh, I'll play Roffles and hope he stays upright.

I think he is the safe choice. I picked up DHB on waivers this week because my receivers are in flux.

AJ is out, again. Mike Wallace is consistent as can be, Steve Smith on a bye. The rest of my receivers... Burress and Julio Jones, fuck me.

Bill Barnwell spitting that truth about Fatman and the Bucs:

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Don't fool yourself by looking at their record. This is not a good football team. They have a winning record because they're 4-2 in games decided by a touchdown or less. It could very well be 5-0 with a couple more twists, as the Lions blew them out before giving up a garbage-time touchdown in Week 1, and the Bears basically tried to give the London game away to Tampa, only for the Bucs to try to give it right back. Their record is totally unsupported by their underlying level of play, as this is a team that's been outscored by 38 points in their seven games. Tampa is 24th in both points scored and points allowed per game. They are really playing like a 6-10 team right now. Tampa's record is about to reflect it, too, as the Bucs will face the Saints, Texans, and Packers over the next three weeks. It took four takeaways and Sean Payton's torn ACL for the Buccaneers to beat the Saints last time around. It's probably not going to happen again. The Panthers are a better team than these Bucs right now.

Amen Bill, amen.

New York Giants

We forget to see this coming every season with the Giants; we get distracted by something and forget that the Giants are known for their second-half disasters. Since 2006, the Giants are 30-10 in the first half of the regular season and 18-22 in the second half. Their pass defense has declined in four of those five seasons, but the biggest reason why is usually that their schedule gets much tougher. 2011 is no exception. Their narrow victory over the Dolphins last week was the final pushover left on their schedule, as the Giants now have a home-and-home left with the Cowboys, home games against the Eagles and Redskins, and this absurd out-of-division slate: Patriots, 49ers, Saints, Packers, Jets. You know how newspapers prepare obituaries for aging public figures before they pass away? I am guessing the New York Post already has its op-ed pieces about the Giants quitting on Tom Coughlin written. It would be a great shock if the Giants were still in first place on Christmas Day.

Still think the Dream Team takes the East

edit: yep great work as usual by Branwell

Really? "We" forgot that? It's only the primary natrrative mentioned whenever the Giants are brought up along with the amount of injuries the team has been dealt. Hell, NFLN just had a spot on the Giants last night on Total Access and the entire topic was "Will they collapse in the second half?" The brutal second half schedule has been forgotten? Really?

Yep, we forgot about it TOTALLY.

EDIT: Actually, here's the spot:

Damn we hold a record for fewest takeaways through 8 games.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The takeaways still have not arrived for the Steelers. We're now eight games in and the Steelers defense has just two interceptions and one fumble recovery. That's three takeaways, and it's the fewest for any team in NFL history through their first eight contests. Troy Polamalu has more dead-meat dropped pick-sixes than hair-care commercials this year, and it's not close. We have to assume that the takeaways will show up eventually, but Steelers fans don't have much to worry about if they don't. After they play the Ravens this week, Pittsburgh has four games against the Bengals and Browns, two games against the NFC West, and the Chiefs. 14-2 is still a very distinct possibility.

Basically everyone else with this few this far had pretty shitty records

We're gonna roll the Steelers in a Super Bowl rematch like the Cowboys did to the Bills back when.

yeah I can't guarantee us making it back with that defense

Miami Dolphins

A little bit of luck (or Luck) should be heading Miami's way in the second half; they've played three games that were decided by one touchdown or less and lost all of them. How long do you think it will be 'til a camera spots the first LUCK #12 jersey in Miami? Week 13? And how long will it take that person to realize that no. 12 is actually retired in Miami (Bob Griese) and that they've spent $300 on a custom jersey that they can guarantee will never actually come to fruition? This is absolutely going to happen.

The biggest lost for this game is the center.
The Fullback and Bradshaw being out is not big, neither were doing much and with the rise of Cruz the Giants are deep enough to survive without Nicks for a short time.

Alot of the season depends on if the Linebackers can play much better, Good Ross shows up more often then bad, and if Prince plays like we think he should play.

New England Patriots

That New England pass defense is simply a disaster, and it's going to get worse without Leigh Bodden or Ras-I Dowling around for the rest of the season. The scary thing for Patriots fans is that they'll probably forget about it over the second half of the season, since New England really doesn't play against many great passing offenses. After the Giants this week, they get the Eagles in Week 12 and the Bills in what could be a meaningless Week 17 matchup. They don't play a single above-average passing offense besides that. We personally can't wait for all the Patriots fans we know to start believing in the pass defense sometime in December, only to see Philip Rivers show up in the playoffs. Two minutes into the Divisional Round, those same fans are crushed when they finally realize that Kyle Arrington is a starting cornerback on this team.

This is what I'm afraid of.

Nah, I just know the Panthers will keep losing.

Carolina Panthers

Like the Vikings, this is a really underrated team that hasn't gotten the breaks in some close games; Carolina is 1-5 in those infamous games decided by a score or less. Some of those games were only close because the Panthers added a late score, but they were also a penalty away from going 17-0 up on the Packers in Week 2. Unfortunately, they've been decimated by injuries on defense, having placed three starters on injured reserve already, including star linebacker Jon Beason. They're going to play a lot of shootouts during the second half, and they're likely to win more of them than they did during the first half. Don't be surprised if they have a winning record over their final eight games.

Looks like you're gonna be surprised holmes!

Houston Texans

A little bit of offensive balance would be nice for the Texans during the second half. These days, that usually means running the ball more frequently, but Houston's actually been running the ball too much. Arian Foster has averaged 25 carries per game since returning from his hamstring injury in Week 4; that's a 400-carry pace for a full season, and it's going to get him injured if the Texans keep handing him the ball that frequently.

Meanwhile, poor Matt Schaub has gone from leading the league in attempts in 2009 to throwing the sixth-fewest attempts per game this season. The return of Andre Johnson will help correct things, but even without AJ in the lineup, Houston should be tossing the ball around more and giving their star running back more plays off.
oh, what texan fan was saying that we didnt run the ball enough?

Yeah, I wouldn't mind tentative Blaine Gabbert if he threw down the field at least more than once a game. All the other rooks at least are airing it out.

Hilarious. Right up there with that one Skins rant last year after the Eagles game.

CARLTON MITCHELL??!!

Is this a video or something?

Man I still remember that game. Only time I never saw Eagles fans gloating about a victory. It's like they sensed that the Skins fans were about to snap if provoked. I know I would've, lol.

Wow this guy was so close to dropping F-Bombs this is quality entertainment right here.
I thought San Diego sports radio was bad WOW!

Meanwhile the Ravens (Former Browns) are playing for first place on Sunday night.

It has got to hurt doubly bad.

I dont even think about it like that anymore really. Now that Modell is out of the picture, they're just another division rival to me.

Who is getting open? I mean I guess he could just chuck it up on 3rd downs as sort of a pre-emptive punt. Cam is doing great, but he has at least 3 or 4 Steve Smith Specials to help account for that stat (and Cam is clearly better than Gabbert).

From here on I think the easiest way to predict a rookie QB busting will be how shitty the offensive talent is when they decide to start him. Jags should have kept Gabbert on the bench all year.

Madden curse in full effect now people. Peyton Hillis once again reinjured his hamstring in practice today, likely to miss his 3rd straight and 4th total game of 8 so far this season.

His season is a couple weeks away from being a complete loss.

I'm ready to just shelve him for the year and then adios. So sick of all the drama thats surrounded this guy this year. I dont know how to make this link smaller, sorry. But its a story about Hillis and how the vets on the team had a meeting with him earlier this week and blah blah http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AihdB6a72zEFDaFqGhnqSDtDubYF?slug=ms-silver_peyton_hillis_hamstring_contract_browns110411

And then he aggravates the hammy in practice today and threw his helmet across the field, lol. Fucking circus.

Your team is sinking back to .500 this weekend.
And then it's all downhill from there.

I wonder if the Cowardly Ryan will choke against the Colts.
That would be 2 NFC South teams losing to winless teams in a row.
I'd laugh, then I'd laugh some more.

Yea, the browns definitely. Just run screens all day, their secondary is sad. Up front though, pretty decent.

Huh? Our secondary is actually pretty decent, albeit a touch banged up at the moment. Joe Haden is playing at a Pro Bowl level right now. Some of it may be the easy schedule but I think we've gotta be around the top 5 in pass defense this year so far. The run defense has been a little suspect at times. If I were Houston I'd just run the fuck out of the ball all day.

I feel bad for Browns fans.
I wasn't that angry when they kicked our ass in 2010.
You guys deserve a break.
We got ours in 2009. Even if it never happens again, IT HAPPENED.
So keep the faith, because really, that's all you got at this point.

Oh I'll never give up but it's just tiring year after year of not even being in the hunt mid-way through the year. (yes we're only one game under .500 right now but I'm a realist) Every fucking year the fans are focusing on the draft this time of year and much like the guy screaming on the radio, I'm just sick of it. I love the draft. I dont want to think about it until January though.

The bright side, outside of the coach, I think our front office has done alright. The past 2 drafts have been decent so far so if we keep drafting well I know good things will eventually happen. I've just run out of patience. I want meaningful football games! NOW!

I hate this fucking coach so far though. Just another unqualified, LIFELESS cardboard cutout thats in over his head on the sideline. And ok. One knock on the F.O. - who the fuck decided that it'd be a good idea to give a first year HC (first time at any level) the added task of being the offensive coordinator too? WTF? Everyone and their brother was questioning this move before the season started but we're just a bunch of dumbass fans, what do we know?

Biggest reason I wanted someone like Gruden. If we're gonna fucking suck (not enough for Luck though) year in and out, can't we at least be entertaining? Pat Shurmur is like watching a mannequin. Ugh

Every time I reload the TV map and still see ATL-IND as my game I get more pissed.
Maybe the game will be so uncompetitive they'll switch it by the 2nd quarter.

Watch the fucking Colts win by 30.
