NFL 2013 Preseason/Training Camp thread - Doritos Locos

Wut? How would they expect people to double dip?
Historically releases on stronger consoles and PC has been at least 8 months down the road and they're sure as shit not releasing in the summer.

All I know is they want to focus on smaller DLC packages so something will be out around March.
If they can prep next-gen and PC for then, I'd bet they'd do it to keep the base as wide as possible. Judging by production I doubt it.

Reading the features list for GTAV, and I can't help but ask "what's the catch?".

Probably bikes and cars still handling like shit. Played about an hour of IV last week and it's so aggravating.

Or maybe the heist-focused structure gets repetitive at some point.

I'm just happy that all the old stuff is back, so I can at least take a bicycle if the motorcycles still suck.

I thought they could get killed. Like $2B, plus all the crap they covered up going public. This is such a win for them. Neuters that PBS thing. Takes a lot of the media's hand wringing about head injuries away. Maybe they will get a little less rabid about incidental head hits

I wonder why the players settled now. I heard on the radio yesterday that the PBS thing was going to kill the league. Show them covering up and doing other underhanded stuff. Seems like the players could have gotten a lot more.

The catch is just basically the opportunity cost of an open world game with their obscene scope.

It's the cost of visual fidelity and frame rate for the benefit of a large environment with no loading.
The amount of resources required to render the world means there's less they can do with physics and animation and lighting.

The launch trailer had a lot of bells and whistles going on and while they've retained a couple of nice flourishes, it definitely doesn't look anywhere near as good.

Although the HD requirement was a step in the right direction for GTA and games in general. Less intensive off-the-disc streaming and things like that which allows them to make an all-things-considered amazing looking open world game.

I'm all in.

I'm going to Montreal that weekend leaving on the 20th so hell might as well take off the 18th and 19th as well.

It could have been years before they got paid. And there is always the obvious of proving damages and causation. It does seem low, but like chuck said, it's not class action. Only those with actual damages will get money (capped at $5m). All the litigants get a baseline exam, but if they have no further damage, they don't get paid

Bucket have they said anything about being able to save mid mission this time?
No but Gay Tony had multiple checkpoints within a mission.
You could use your cell phone to replay missions whenever you wanted, too.

I can't remember if you could jump to a specific section, though.

Look I know you are at an all time low with buttfumble forever ingrained in our memories but no need to take it out on me brah.

I'm not your enemy.

I just follow the team that allowed you to draft Sanchez and lead to the buttfumble is all.

Hey if one of the leafs walk up to bettman and high stick him I will be a leafs fan for life.

Keep in mind the legal fees are not included in the settlement so you can probably tack on another 200 million to that number from what I'm reading. They could end up paying close to 1 billion when it's all said and done.

Depends on how they split it. If everyone just gets their share and runs, then it makes no sense. If they put it in a fund and give it to the people who actually need it, then it should be fine.
To clarify a bit on that point:

ProFootballTalk @ProFootballTalk 2m

The settlement creates a $675 million fund for players with severe cognitive impairment, dementia, Alzheimer's, or ALS.

Peter King @SI_PeterKing 5m

... And every player can petition for baseline testing and money from the $675m compensation pool, not just the 4,500 litigants.

With that, all retired players would be eligible as well. Not just the litigants.

I drive a manual and I hate using cruise control. Most people don't enjoy driving a car.

What the hell does this mean?

I drive stick too and I use cruise control. Just save it for long stretches of highway. Bam.

It does seem very NHL to end up paying more for their concussion litigation than the NFL

I was listening to a hockey guy and he said something to the effect of "NHLers don't do roids. They do things the right way"

If Congress ever notices the NHL exists they are going to come down hard on them.

I enjoy listening to that regularly about how "our sport doesn't have a problem with PEDs".

Not that I'm looking forward to it but it'll be interesting to see when someone eventually does come down on them and starts catching guys.

Hey dont forget about this guy:
simmonds123.jpg

I usually just get behind someone speeding and follow them.

The state troopers are looking for the guy that sticks out in the left lane, you don't want to be that guy. I also have never been pulled for speeding in the right lane. There is nothing to protect me while I am in the right lane, but it seems to have worked for the past 15 years. Only got one ticket in that time and that was when I was driving in northern PA in the middle of fucking nowhere. The speed limits on that shit road changed seemingly every half mile and I was doing 50 in a 35 (was previously 50 not too long before that). I talked the cop into just giving me a ticket for not wearing my seatbelt and something else so it was non-moving and did not give me any points.

Always try and talk the cop down into a non-moving violation. Most of them are decent guys and will do it unless you have a huge record of speeding tickets, then you are fucked.

Yeah, the guy did give me some kind of other violation, probably because he checked my history and saw it was clean. Still, it was over $100 fine, but I didn't get any points. Just annoyed me because everyone knows guys are going the same or faster. I was in the left lane though, just had passed a truck, so I'm sure that worked against me like you said. Should have gotten over sooner. Live and learn as they say.

Plaintiff's attorney says NFL owners were tough, adding to a Houston reporter: "You got one down in Texas I would say is a hard ass." ...

Albert Breer ‏@AlbertBreer
... Asked to clarify which Texas team he was talking about, the attorney said, "I don't even know who the owner in Houston is."

Now that they've reached a settlement can we go back to football, get rid of the dumb rules and let the NFL stop pretending to care about player safety?

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

I fully expect in two years these same players to be complaining in the media that the settlement wasn't enough.

The mistake you are making is assuming these rule changes were for player safety in the first place. The rules exist to make playing defense as difficult as possible.

Two years? Bro, you underestimate NFL players and their representatives:

Kevin Mawae @KevinMawae 52m

NFL concussion lawsuit net outcome? Big loss for the players now and the future! Estimated NFL revenue by 2025 = $27 BILLION

EDIT: Brady and most of the starters aren't going to play tonight against the Giants:

http://bostonherald.com/sports/patr...tom_brady_many_key_starters_wont_play_tonight

Eli and the starting offense will be out for 12-15 snaps according to Coughlin (which is the usual for them in the 4th preseason game every year).

So the Attorney general said they will not challenge Marijuana legalization in Colorado and Washington. Sometimes I believe in government. :)

So how many years before the NFL is 2 hand touch?

The NFL is afraid that long term, rich and middle class parents won't let their kids play the sport, and that those kids won't become future customers as they are lost to the wuss sports like soccer, baseball, and basketball

lol, no. The rule changes were put in place so the NFL could pretend they cared about player safety so that the litigants would feel pressured to settle. It worked! Now let's let players get back to tackling.

This is 100% true.
