Truthfully, I understand the game has a ton of flaws but it basically established everything that made MGS5 good, and in many ways was a more complete game. Problem of course was that the technology wasnt there.
That's called MGS3 tho.
MGS3 has the least amount of dumb bullshit in it. And when I say dumb bullshit, I mean crazy anime bullshit. 3 is basically a James Bond thriller with double crosses and Cold War backdrops. The only dumb bullshit in that game is shit like the Sorrow. And the whole injury system is just fucking tedious
My first 10 hours with MGSV are probably the best Metal Gear game, but then the story just doesn't go anywhere, it doesn't have enough goofy shit for me, and the entire back half of the game just feels slapped together. I had to slog through Chapter 2 and force myself to finish it
I only speak facts. Besides, if it ain't on Switch then it ain't worth it anyways.

MGS4 and 5 didn't look good enough to play, so I stopped playing my favorite game series.
MGS Acid was basically Wii U.
Right. And I'm saying I liked the stupid bullshit the most. The last two hours of 2 when you go down to Arsenal Gear and realize what's been happening is my favorite part of any Metal Gear
Right on. I'm just laying it all out. I'm impressed still as a series they were able to keep their audience attached for such a variety of releases.

I didn't play MGS 1 until after I beat 3 and that was like 4 years ago when I blitzed through the whole series so I can't really rank it.
Still need to play 5 but I wasn't a massive fan of Ground Zero
I really enjoyed Peace Walker and I hope they rerelease the remaster for PS4

None of the metal gear games are fun to play, interesting, or coherent.
First off Deacon is wrong. I would've agreed if you said it was a little overrated. But straight shit? Nah son.
Wienke is wrong once again. MGS3 is the best one, and MGS5 is a very close 2nd. It might be tied for that spot. Everything else doesn't really matter much, but they paved the way.

it's everything I hate about gaming. Awful story. Overwrought cinematics to tell story instead of story through gameplay. Dumb characters with dumb motivations. Clunky, unintuitive controls. Shitty animation. Confusing UI system designs in the name of being "cool". Inconsistent game design. Gameplay devices added just because instead of having a tangible improvement on gameplay. Ugh.
Kojima makes (bad) movies with a game around it. I see why the first one got popular, it was unprecedented at the time. Now talk to a Metal Gear fan and they all tell you they play because it's Metal Gear, not because it's particularly fun or interesting.

Mgs3 was my least favorite when I was playing through it, have only played it once though. Mgs1 I probably have the fondest memories of. I felt like I was in a crazy Action Movie or something

I have been spoiled with good games and good level design. It has stopped now but I do remember a phase where people used to excuse zero level design for "realism" and "ai".
