NFL 2017 Offseason thread |OT2| - I Mean Look What Our Teams Did For Us!

It was always going to the Bucs, but I imagine the conservation was between Eagles, Titans, and Buccaneers. The other two guys just ain't as good or exciting as Jaboo, who wants to watch Marcus Mariota, paint drying would be more entertaining.

Never draft one in the first round.

Are you saying that the only successful teams in the NFL all drafted their QBs in the 1st round? Even if it was true that you have to have a QB drafted in the 1st, there was nothing stopping howie from getting a QB in the 1st before.

No. Dak Prescott, Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Russell Wilson, etc were picked in later rounds, but I think it's a weird strategy not to use your best pick on the most important position as a rule.

Big Ben
Both Mannings
Rivers
Ryan
Flacco
Rodgers
Smith
Stafford
Palmer
Newton
Bradford (!!!!!!!)
Luck
Carr
Winston
Bress (32nd pick)
Derek Carr (36th pick)

It's just strange not to to use the pick ever on a QB.

Good teams go BPA. What if there isn't a good QB in the 1st when you choose? Like are you saying they should've chosen EJ Manuel instead of Lane Johnson in the 2013 draft?

No. BPA is true. I just think it is crazy how the Texans have not picked a 1st round QB since David Carr. I guess, I'm a bit crazy though, because the Texans have drafted really good players and bypassed bad to average QBs.

I was also joking about the Browns taking Mitch. I have been messing with BG since the Barnwell-Grossi feud started.

The late round QB's are definitely the exception to the rule.

If the Texans had a remotely capable QB the Patriots probably don't win that game. They had plenty of opportunities to do so and they took other positions instead.

Matthew Stafford's last two games against the Eagles:

46/63, 517 Yards, 75% CPR, 8 TD's, 0 INTs, 31 Yards Rushing

Lions: 2-0

And yet he's won just as many playoff games as Carson Wentz

I think part of the problem is that 1st round QBs generally tend to be drafted at the top of the 1st, or they'll fall into the 2nd. I could be wrong but if you're choosing in the 20s I feel like QB is rarely the BPA. And for example when the Texans were choosing #1 a few years ago, it was Clowney or Bort. I think they made the right choice

Trump was elected and no Super Bowl was held.

Since the league has completely shifted in favor of offense, teams desperately need high-end QBs just to make the Super Bowl.

IMO until you have a solid QB the BPA is a QB.

The Raiders, as talented as they are, are shit without Carr. Same with every playoff team.

The Texans are loaded everywhere but at QB. And until they get a real QB they're not going anywhere. They took a swing at it last year and famously wiffed. But they have to try again.

But what if the QB available at your position isn't very good? Again go to 2013. Should all of the teams that didn't have a QB select EJ Manuel in the first round? Or we could go back to this previous draft. If we redid it, Dak would be a 1st rounder, maybe even #1 overall. But late round QBs are the exception to the rule. Were the Broncos better off taking Paxton Lynch than an OL?

The 2013 draft was historically bad, so I'm not touching that one.

Were the Broncos right in taking Lynch? In my opinion, yes. It was by far their biggest position of need. I have no idea if Lynch will be any good. Especially after losing his coaches. But I do think it was the right pick.

If the Broncos just wanted to be good. Just wanted to contend for the playoffs. Then they should have taken offensive line. But Elway wants to win super bowls. And he knows he can't do that with Trevor Siemian or Mark Sanchez.

What round was Brady drafted in

I'm a little less sure that the Bills will match that offer.

They have around 10 million in space. It would take 4 million this year to match the Patriots offer. They still need 3+ million for draft picks.

They have McCoy as their lead back and I think Jonathan Williams could be decent as a backup. They have much bigger needs than running back.

I think Gillislee is a Patriot by end of the week.

Unless you're expecting teams to be clairvoyant and see the future, you can't really criticize them for taking the QBs that they did.

It's like bitching about a 4th and 1 play or really any football play that didn't turn out how you wanted it to. The question is really whether or not you agree with the decision given the facts at hand and not the outcome.
