NFL Offseason Thread 2013 - Here comes the wait

I believe it.

What would be the compensation be if someone offered him a sheet?
Three things:

- They'd have to give up their original first rounder (not a pick they acquired from another team).
- Cruz wants 10m/year so they'd have to put more on the table than what the Giants are offering him to prevent the Giants from matching.
- They'd have to have/make the cap room for a sizeable long term contract.

Eli lost to the Vince Young led dream team Eagles team. I guess this means Eli sucks too!

Eli isn't a great regular season QB either. Not sure he deserves a max contract either. I'd say the only QB that really does that's around Flacco's age is Rodgers.

Yeah in his interviews from the owners meetings he emphasized that he just wants good players but does look for bigger and taller players because simply put they beat up the smaller guys.

Basically he wants athletic freaks who are big, strong, and conditioned for the type of tempo he wants. I am assuming size won't be as much a factor at the skill positions but OLINE, DLINE, and the rest of the D will have to be physical.

Who doesn't want that though? It's nice to want those attributes but those players are scarce and hard to acquire and typically only available in the early rounds unless you mean he will sacrifice on actual skill to get those players.

So Packers purge incoming.

On another note: Reed still has not officially signed a contract and the Texans have not formally announced anything. Going back to Baltimore at the last minute?? can only hope.

Also, Peter King posted the following:

SI's Peter King reports Tampa Bay would likely trade its first- and second-round picks in 2014 for Darrelle Revis.
The holdup is the Jets' desire for picks this year, and Bucs GM Mark Dominik is reluctant to give up the No. 13 overall selection. As King points out, it's not a smart move by the Jets to hold out for this year's selection. They should take the two 2014 picks in what is shaping up to be a much better quarterback class. Per King, Tampa would be willing to pay Revis "in the neighborhood" of $15 million annually. The Bucs are the only team in the hunt for Revis. It's probably a matter of time before the sides reach a compromise.

I didn't run this through the Illuminati conspiracy underground to verify whether its Revis' agent making his puppets dance or if there's actually any truth to it but take it for what you will....

We have literally zero overpaid veterans.

I think BJ Raji may be the only one left and he can be replaced.

Outside that, Green Bay is ridiculously young and feasting on rookie contracts.

What happens when those rookie contracts come due? Isn't Mathews coming up in 2014? Texans let their free agents walk because of what Cushing and Watt will get in their new contracts.

It wouldn't surprise me either. Though it seems like their GM is getting impatient waiting for the Jets at this point.

Someone posted something about Jarvis Jones earlier and I saw this posted up on BBI:

Georgia OLB Jarvis Jones ran a 4.92 in the 40-yard dash at his Pro Day on Thursday.
Jones also completed 20 bench press reps to go along with a 9-foot-3 broad jump. It's an underwhelming performance, and the forty time is defensive tackle-esque. Jones wasn't expected to wow scouts with his forty. He plays much faster on film, but Thursday's results coupled with spotty medicals might push Jones into the bottom of the first round.

We really don't have a lot of standout players that can't be replaced in the draft. I'm not too worried going forward.

That would be hilariously awful for the Bucs.

Their owners are apparently involved in the negotiations. If the Jets can get a 1 and 2 in 2014, they should do it. It basically tells the players and fans that 2013 is a give up year, but they should know that anyway

I'd hope the pats would pick him if he dropped, he was projcted as a top 5 pick half a year ago. I'd definitely take the risk on him.

Well that's why I think they will focus more on defensive players having these sorts of attributes. It's already started with some of the guys they picked up through FA. Not necessarily the fastest guys but they can all hit, tackle, and play a nasty style.

So while you can't get all 53 players to resemble that, it is at least an attempt to move away from the completely opposite style of player Reid always wanted. Speed was king and levels above any other attribute a player could have. They consistently drafted undersized DE, DT, LBs, Safeties, and CBs. Same type of players they targeted in FA.

Of course speed matters but you can't bet your whole scheme on it. Liking what Chip is going for on D so far.

I assume if the Bucs pull the trigger on a deal like this they are believe they will be in the playoffs this coming season. Then that first round pick becomes a low first round pick. Still wouldn't give up a 1st and a 2nd. Maybe a 1st and 3rd or 4th at most.

Jarvis Jones in freefall. Got to be Milliner at 6.

You guys will draft Geno Smith and like it!

God of War Ascension was great. Now to decide on Tomb Raider or Gears of War.

I just picked up GoW: Ascension and Gears on Tuesday. My Xbox crapped out unfortunately so going to pick up a refurb tonight. Buddies already beat Gears and said it was a big disappointment and the worst campaign by far. No interesting set pieces like the others had, apparently. Made it sound like I wasted money on that one but oh well, coop is still about the most fun you can have in gaming so I'm sure I'll still have a good time with it. I've heard Tomb Raider is fantastic. Haven't started Ascension yet.

Im honesty not that shocked we lost, I knew it'd be a tough game. Patterson/Woodall going 1-19 stings as well as going 1-17 from 3. Why we are shooting 3s at that rate is redonk we arent that type of team. Who is your team anyways?

Funny how we're the only country with zero fucks given about Soccer. College sports do suck though. I can't bring myself to watch them when the talent is so abysmally low. Especially when there are shitty rules or weaker game elements compared to pro leagues like the 3 point line being closer to the rim for college basketball. Most of the players are all scrubs with no shot at the pros. I wish I could feel compelled to watch to have my own opinion on draft candidates but it's not worth watching scrub fest matches. I try to at least watch the bowls and finals for top pick candidates if my teams are drafting early, though. Also laughably bad defense except for a few particular teams.
