Whaaaaat?

Now on to the picks, in which I have very little confidence.

Cincinnati at Philadelphia, 1:00 p.m. (Cinci will finish .500 by facing a team that would lose to half the bowl teams playing today)
Cleveland at Houston, 1:00 p.m.
Detroit at Tennessee, 1:00 p.m. (No idea why I have so much unfounded faith in the Titans.)
Green Bay at Chicago, 1:00 p.m.
Miami at Baltimore, 1:00 p.m.
Minnesota at Washington, 1:00 p.m.
New Orleans at Carolina, 1:00 p.m.
N.Y. Jets at St. Louis, 1:00 p.m.
Pittsburgh at Buffalo, 1:00 p.m.(The one-game return of the Tommy-Gun....okay, okay, this pick is not entirely made with the most unbiased of minds)
San Francisco at New England, 1:00 p.m.
Atlanta at Seattle, 4:05 p.m.
Tampa Bay at Arizona, 4:05 p.m.
Indianapolis at Denver, 4:15 p.m.
Jacksonville at Oakland, 4:15 p.m.
Kansas City at San Diego, 4:15 p.m.
Dallas at N.Y. Giants, 8:30 p.m. (I've picked him two weeks in a row now, and I'm sure Eli will lose again. But I'll feel bad for the poor bastard if he doesn't win a game in his rookie year. You know, after I stop laughing at him and finish sending out my thank you cards to the Giants front office.)

The #1 selling jersey? Color me impressed.

Fuck, wasn't Ben supposed to be on Letterman this week? I guess I missed it. Damn.

I'm not picking the games this week (other than, of course, San Francisco over New England). But you know what I want.

Pittsburgh at Buffalo, 1:00 p.m.
Indianapolis at Denver, 4:15 p.m.
Jacksonville at Oakland, 4:15 p.m.

Unfortunately I only really believe in two of them.

pfft, the number 1 jersey should be a QB that doesn't make the run game account for 95% of thier offense. Someone like Manning for example ;)

Some things I just learned by watching the NFL Network:

Peyton can go 0-35 against Denver and still break Steve Young's record for QB rating
Not only did Manning not get a gameball, he got absolutely no mention in the Colts locker room after the game
The NFL wanted to pause the game after he broke the record(think Bonds breaking the HR record), but Manning said no, he would have no part of that.

Manning also wants to play this week's game properly, for which I am eternally grateful. Now if only the Steelers would follow suit. :D

Baseball's typical tempo is as slow as molasses. A celebratory pause generally isn't a disturbance. I'd imagine it'd be far more jarring in the middle of a football game. Good call on Peyton's part. It was probably for the best.

Buffalo would still beat them. :)

I think that's probably a repeat, he was on a couple of weeks ago iirc.

Especially seeing how the touchdown actually mattered. Of course, had they missed the two point conversion attempt, I'm sure the break would have looked good in retrospect to try and think of a better play.

About Steve Young's record, I heard earlier in the week that he'd have to go 0-20 with five picks to drop down below 112.whatever.

The Steelers might play everybody. Ben's listed as questionable, not doubtful. They're also bringing back Duce and Chad Scott (Out of necessity, but they are two returning starters) in addition to Plex playing again.

I think doing what the Eagles did on Monday against a team fighting for the play-offs is horrible.
Every starter that can play should play at least 3 quarters.

If you're playing a team that is dead anyway, who cares....but if you're playing the bills, jags, jets, etc. you should play it like a normal game.

yeah, it's a double standard, but that's the way i see it

Should the jersey go to someone with gaudy stats who has never won a big game? ;)

Roethlisberger > Manning :D

Dog Feces > Brady

What "big game" has Roeth won?? he hasn't even been to the playoffs yet

Speaking of QBs having big games, the Jaguars' abuse of loopholes in the cap rules could come back to bite them if:

- Byron Leftwich is injured
- David Garrard is injured
- Quinn Gray scores 15 TDs

:)

And no way in hell does Dillon run on the Steel Curtain.

We said the same thing.

2 games started, 45 attempts, 230 rushing yards, 5.1 average, 1 touchdown.

He's the one running back that has been able to beat the Bills defense this year. No other running back has even come close to breaking the Bills defense.

The Steelers have been stopping Dillon for a long time, and the Pats never had a chance to run anyway. They were down 21-3 in the first, and only attempted 5 rushes all game. Even with a backup, if they were going to run they would have.

That Dillon would have had any affect on the game whatsoever is the biggest myth this NFL season.

WHY DONT STEELER FANS GET IT THROUGH THEIR GODDAMN HEADS THAT DILLON IS ON A DIFFERENT TEAM. STOPPING HIM WHEN HE WAS ON THE BENGALS HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH STOPPING HIM ON THE PATS. GET IT THROUGH YOUR SKULLS. JESUS CHRIST.

ahhhhhhhh that feels better

Anyone know who's the best safety in next years draft according to espn? Dallas needs a safety now that woodson retired.

I don't know about what ESPN says, but I've seen Davis (Georgia) and Shazor(Michigan) listed as the best in the nation.

As for Dillon, it's not that different. He was a great back on the Bengals too. The Steelers have been stopping just about everybody for a long time now. Ask Jamal Lewis how he runs against the Steelers, or Curtis Martin, or Clinton Portis and his 17 yards. Fred Taylor maybe? You know, those backs all helped their teams beat the Steelers. Oh, wait, that's right. They all lost. That slipped my mind.

The only back that did well against the Steelers this year was Rudi Johnson in the first game they played. Thanks to two big runs by Taylor, the Ravens as a team ran well in their victory too.

I get why you're angry, though. It must piss you off to see that there are teams out there that actually can stop anybody.

sad to say it, but i think the pats would beat the steelers if they played again. steelers just seem like a big fluke to me, but i hope they prove me wrong. Anybody but the pats is fine with me.

WTF? I will never understand why the Steelers get no respect from so many people. Ben is 13-0 and it wasn't like he had the easiest schedule. The Steelers will prove everyone wrong in the playoffs.

A fluke? I'm a ravens fan.....dying to put the Steelers down, but they're not a fluke. They're loaded with talent and they've got a QB who knows how to win,two RBs playing at a pro-bowl level, and two star WRs. That's just on offense. And anyway, you shouldn't be "sad" to say that, because both teams are great and most likely going to meet in the AFC championship, and it will most likely be a close game. Either team could go all the way this year.

Charlie Frye will be picked up as a QB somewhere. He will, I tells ya.

Rather random...but what the hell. I agree. Only full game I've seen him in this year was against Penn State, and he looked absolutely miserable. But I've heard good things about him, and coming into the season he was one of those "might screw up some Heisman votes" guys. In his favor is that this year is very weak at the QB position(I don't think Lienart or Rogers deserve a #1 overall pick...and quite frankly, I'm tired of mediocre QBs getting taken at number 1 overall, it's a disturbing trend as of late, and almost as tired of mediocre QBs getting the Heisman trophy because they are on the best team. Peterson, Arrington, Edwards, Benson, hell even Brown and Williams were more outstanding than White or Leinart and that's just on offense) and there are some teams that need a signal caller. After the Dolphins, Browns, and 9ers at the top of the draft, there are teams like Green Bay(Perenially looking for a young replacement), Oakland, maybe Tampa Bay seeing as though Jon Gruden is absolutely batshit insane that can be looking for a QB in round two or three.

Carried throughout a playing field on a mechanical chair attached to a ceiling, you wow fans with highlight-reel three-yard-runs and underutilize your strong arm by dumping the ball off to fullbacks coming out of the backfield.

“We’re also interested in giving the fan the experience of being a barely mediocre quarterback, so we’ve teamed up with the Baltimore Ravens to offer our visitors “The Kyle Boller Experience”, said Gene Downing, President of Six Flags America. “You can throw for less than 100 yards in a game, routinely make horrible decisions, and generally just look completely inept out there—all for $5. “It’s a great ride, but I wouldn’t go on it right after eating. Boller’s scrambling ability will make you want to puke.”

Show off your electrifying running skills by rushing for 10 yards as you squeak by the San Francisco 49ers, or light it up through the air as you pass for 115 yards and get sacked six times in a shitty win against the God-awful Arizona Cardinals.

I don't remember where, but I read that in their past 21 games outdoors on grass, the Vikings are 2-19; that got me thinking...is there a chance the Vikings could miss out on the playoffs again?

Vikings: 8-7/Div: 3-3/Conf: 5-6
Seahawks: 8-7/Div: 3-3/Conf: 7-4
Panthers: 7-8/Div: 3-2/Conf: 6-5
Rams: 7-8/Div: 5-1/Conf: 7-5

Let's say Minnesota and Seattle lose, and the Rams and Panthers win:

Vikings: 8-8/Div: 3-3/Conf: 5-7
Seahawks: 8-8/Div: 3-3/Conf: 7-5
Panthers: 8-8/Div: 4-2/Conf: 7-5
Rams: 8-8/Div: 5-1/Conf: 7-5

The Rams would be the NFC West winners and the #4 seed in the NFC playoffs. The Seahawks have already clinched a playoff spot, so they would get a wild card berth. So that brings it down to the Panthers and Vikings. Since they are not in the same division and there is no head-to-head match up, conference record would be used to determine the final wild card berth. The Panthers would attain the final wild card berth by the better conference record, and since the Seahawks have a head-to-head win over the Panthers, the Panthers would be the #6 seed, making the NFC playoff picture this:

#1 - Philadelphia
#2 - Atlanta
#3 - Green Bay
#4 - St. Louis
#5 - Seattle
#6 - Carolina

As unlikely as it would be, I'd laugh my ass off if happened.

I'm torn about todays game.

I want the Bears to win, because it is the Packers they are facing. But at the same time if the Bears lose I know we'll get a top draft pick. And the team really isn't that far away from heavily competiting in the NFC. Need to shore up our offense as our defense is already playoff caliber.

Haha, Buffalo defense came out hard charged. Forced a punt on 1st possesion. Fumbled the punt :lol and now it's 2nd and goal Pittsburgh.

Oof Bills defense is looking nasty haha.

-edit-

WTF? Is the ball covered in grease today? That has to be the 4th or 5th fumble.

1-10-NYJ 47 (7:54) S.Moss left end to NYJ 39 for -8 yards. FUMBLES, and recovers at NYJ 41. S.Moss to NYJ 34 for -7 yards (P.Tinoisamoa).
2-23-NYJ 34 (7:13) C.Martin up the middle to NYJ 46 for 12 yards (A.Edwards). PENALTY on SL-T.Faulk, Face Mask (5 Yards), 5 yards, enforced at NYJ 46.
2-6-STL 49 (6:40) C.Pennington pass to W.Chrebet to SL 44 for 5 yards (D.Groce).
3-1-STL 44 (6:03) L.Jordan right tackle to SL 42 for 2 yards (J.Butler).

Is it just me, or did the jets get an extra 2nd down?

soulja, there was a 5 yard face mask penalty at the end of the run, so you get the yardage AND play the down over.

p.s. GO NINERS!!!!!! woooooooooooooooo!! Dorsey raped the starting Pats D, no excuses when you lose this game you loser pats fans!
