The Steelers know that their backs are against the wall and that the most important thing for them is to take it one game at a time for the remainder of the season.

"It's a situation where we're taking this thing one week at a time," said head coach Bill Cowher. "Our focus right now has to go to Denver next week."

The Steelers are 2-5, while the Baltimore Ravens sit atop the AFC North at 5-2 and the Bengals are behind them at 4-3.

"Every game is a must win," said guard Alan Faneca. "All that matters is the game that's next. It doesn't matter five or six games from now. All that matters is next week."

The Steelers bread and butter always has been their running game, but when they needed one-yard the most, they couldn't get it.

With about three minutes to play in the fourth quarter and down by a touchdown, the Steelers had first-and-goal at the one-yard line.

Willie Parker was stopped for no gain up the middle. On second down, Najeh Davenport was knocked for a four-yard loss.

"That's everything right there," said tackle Marvel Smith. "When we get down on the one, that's something where it shouldn't even be a question if we're going to get it in there. That's a situation where everyone has to knuckle up and do their job."

A false start penalty by Davenport pushed the Steelers back another five yards, and before they knew it, it was third-and-goal from the 10-yard line and the Steelers would not get in the end zone.

"We were going backward instead of going forward," said Faneca. "We got stuffed."

Cowher and co. have made so many ****ing stupid decisions. They more or less deserve this. For one, starting Ben was the most retarded thing they could have done. He's basically dealing with three different problems. I'm sure he's not technically completely recovered from getting back into the flow of things after surgery. Then he got more surgery. Then he got a concussion. Common sense would dictate that you give the guy a break for a few weeks. The Steelers aren't making it to the playoffs this year, use Batch for the next 3 weeks.

Ben is being smart and giving out the typical soundbytes.

He could have blamed his injury or the incredibly shitty play of a supposedly all pro offensive line or his receivers dropping the ball or the shitty field position or the lack of any consistent running game, BUT he did what quarterbacks are supposed to do and took responsibility for the team's loss.

This season is over, but this kind of behavior will pay dividends in the future (assuming Ben is still alive next year) when Ben's teammates will want to win for him.
